    The Luis Garcia goodbye thread

Post by Luis on Mon Jul 02, 2007 12:55 pm

This is a sad day in the history of Liverpool football club and indeed the premiership as we lose one of the greatest starlets to ever take the stage here in England.

He brought a smile to all who wacthed him play.

Sadly now he has been taken away by the monster of Atletico Madrid Sad

Here's to Luis, for goals such as the lob over Buffon, the header against Fulham and of course the famous over the line goal against Chelsea in 2005. <Ale>

We won't miss him! He had a knack of scoring against us.

A very good player, who was always good to watch as he was so unpredicable at times, he produced some brilliant moments.

He will go down as a Liverpool cult hero.

Why are we selling him? He seems happy to be a rotation player, and recently told the press that he was happy to stay or go, so he wasn't exactly demanding a transfer. He's an awesome player to have in the squad, who is capable of making a massive impact when he comes on...We wouldn't have won the champions league without him.

Ah, how could I forget, that last minute winner against you at Anfield on that valentines day evening, brilliant stuff.

He also scored a couple of priceless Derby goals!

It does seem like madness to sell their one player has the real X-factor, in a squad that doesn't really have that many creative options - for peanuts no less, 3.5m!!

It does have the potential to backfire IMHO.

I'd echo Cesc's sentiments, a very good player who brought some much needed creativity and moments of brilliance to Liverpool, had a knack of scoring crucial goals, and always scored against us. His important goals on your run to CL success will guarantee him cult hero status.

If he was used to secure torres then I can understand it. im guessing we tried to offer them cisse but they demanded garcia instead

torres will be much more crucial to our future than garcia would ever have been

    lol!

I have to admit, I hate the thumbsucking with a passion. Totti does that also, and I really hate it.

Great player though, and a true loss for Liverpool. Maybe he wanted to go back to Spain again, so Liverpool agreed on the ridiculously low fee out of respect for what he has done for the club.

Torres btw HAS to sign now, if he were to reject us now, there would be pure uproar!, however reports in Spain are that he is having a medical on wednesday and being unvailed at Anfield thursday/Friday.

This is surely the most frustrating, rumour filled transfer in the history of our club

I'm still trying to figure out why they wanted him to leave.
He's about the only skillful/pacey attacking midfielder/support striker they have and certainly he gave something to Liverpool that i don't think any of their other players can.

    Also he was fantastically both-footed

My favourite goal of his was probably the one against Bolton in the 2-2 draw, although obviously the fantastic hit against Juventus will surely go down in Liverpool history

We did not want him to leave, that is not the case, he was homesick and also Atletico wanted him, in many ways it worked out perfectly in securing the Torres deal (so we presume) and in benefiting Garcia

I'm still trying to figure out why they wanted him to leave.

    possible reasons

    1) maybe we could not sign torres without him and the torres signing is the key to hopefully moving us on to title challengers

    2) however good he was he was always inconsistent and as such never really a guaranteed first team pick. with it looking like gerrard is going to continue on the right and a new signing coming in on the left to challenge kewell we should be fine

    3) perhaps he just got homesick and wanted to go

He's about the only skillful/pacey attacking midfielder/support striker they have and certainly he gave something to Liverpool that i don't think any of their other players can.
Im hopeful torres can provide a more consistent creative spark for us. just have to wait and see. also we don't know who we are signing to replace him yet

It's a slightly risky sale from rafa but by the time the seasons starts I don't think he will be that great a loss if im being totally honest

people were very critical of garcia in the league remember. apparently he couldn't play away from home as we were told on numerous occasions Wink

he came to life in the CL and in the big games but we got to the CL final without him last year anyway

Im not saying Im for his sale because I really really am not by the time torres and our other new signings are put into the team I think we'll be just fine

Not if that's your entire transfer budget blown on Torres.

Face it, he was your most consistent flair player, in a team that lacks flair. He scored better goals than Gerrard for f@ck's sake...
