    Player Positions?

Post by Batman on Thu Jan 10, 2008 7:39 pm

Are there any players that you think should change the position they currently play in for club or country, if not now then maybe in the future?

    • Ronaldo scores lots of goals, should he become a striker?
    • Kuyt works hard but doesn't score many goals, maybe he should become a box-to-box midfield player?

Which players have changed positions and been a success?

    • Kolo Touré, came to Arsenal as a midfield player, now he is a top quality center back

The opposite, change positions and not been very good?

    • Alan Smith playing defensive midfield for Man Utd and Newcastle

    Anderson

Formally an attacking centre mid (or so we are told)... should now be regarded as a purely defensive midfielder Wink

Kuyt would be equally as useless as a midfielder BTW

Dinho to play CM/AM not LW
With the loss of his "explosive" quality, but his technique intact I think it would be natural to move him deeper into midfield, and more centrally to exploit his excellent passing and vision and his very good shot

    Henry playing LW not CF
Henry was bought as a striker, but with Dinho's injuries and Eto'o and Bojan being better CFs, Henry is becoming very adept at his role as a left wing cutting in rather than a striker

    Guddy playing AM not SS/CF
Guddy has, for the moment, displaced Deco from the central midfield and has shown a lot of fight and determination. He does not have the same skills as Deco but has made up for it with sheer will. He was bought as a strker but has been much better in midfield, eventhough he sometimes completely loses his position, like against Mallorca.

Harry Kewell playing as SS instead of Left winger
The guys lost his pace, but he's still a very creative player who's got a good shot on him. Maybe he'd be better as a second striker or a central attacking midfielder.

    * Kuyt is no striker, told you that from the beginning.

Put him in midfield or RW if you have to, he'll do great.

    * Babel is wasted on LW, he's a natural second striker.

    * Emanuelson is no LB but a LM, same for Drenthe

    * Heitinga isn't a CD or RB but a DCM

    * VDV isn't a LW but a playmaker (ACM)

    * Makaay can do anything, I'd like to see him as ACM

    * Sneijder isn't a LM or ACM, his natural position is on the bench Wink

We've played him on the right a few times and he's been even worse.

That's because you have a clueless manager, even Van Basten made him look awesome on the right...

Just wait till you get a new (decent) manager : he'll make proper use of Kuyt and he'll be MOTM for ever Ale

That is one of the reasons i could imagine him playing well in milan. im sure they wouldnt use him the LW position. he cant offer much on the wing anymore.

Robinho would do well as second striker instead of the left, but since we alright have about 14 second strikers, he'll have to stay on the wing.

General consensus is that with time he'll move into cb and be a ball playing CB.

Yeah i gues it will happen but i would prefer if it didnt. i would rather just but Jarque and keep on using Ramos on the right untill he loses his pace.

Get the 10 best managers in the world. Take all their good qualities and put them together. Use a magic potion to make everybody who works under this super manager 10 times a better player. And Kuyt will still be shite true story Ale

Tim Vickery: 'Anderson has settled down in style to the position of volante at Manchester United.

It isn't a role he ever filled in Brazil, nor one those back home could ever imagine him filling. At the start of his junior career at Grêmio, Anderson played at fullback, but thereafter he was always an attacking midfielder, a meia, either operating from the right, allowing him to cut inside onto his stronger left foot, or featuring high up the field on the left.

But now, Alex Ferguson has transformed a meia into a volante. It may have been an emergency measure to cover the injury to Paul Scholes. But Anderson has carried out the task so well that he has been keeping Michael Carrick -- an England international who is a specialist in the position -- out of the starting lineup. '

What a quality young versatile player we have. ok

How do so many threads turn into a debate about Clive Anderson? He's a decent player but he's not special. He's slightly better than Darren Fletcher, woo hoo!

About a third of the fans on this board support United and too many threads are getting sticky with Anderson fuelled jizz. Shut up ffs, you don't hear me going on about El Zhar at every possible opportunity Rolling Eyes
