Aimar to Benfica for 7.5m euros...bit of a high price IMO considering his age and constant injury problems. But it could be a great signing if Quique can get him playing consistently like the genius he can be.

Aissati interested in Ajax link

PSV midfielder Ismail Aissati has revealed he would be open to a move to Ajax after it was reported that the Amsterdammers want to sign him.

Aissati has made it clear he wants to leave PSV before the start of the new season and on Monday he told NOS television that he was waiting to learn if there was anything to the Ajax report.

"Ajax are an interesting club," Aissati said. "Why shouldn't I be able to play there? Time will tell."

Looks like Aimar may be heading to Benfica. What does our resident Benfica fan make of that?

Guily makes PSG move

Paris Saint Germain have completed the signing of France international Ludovic Giuly from Roma.

The capital club have been chasing Giuly's signature all summer and they have now finally agreed a deal for the fomer Monaco ace.

Giuly is believed to have signed a three-year deal at the Parc Des Princes after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The 32-year-old has been eyeing a move back to his homeland for some time after dropping down the pecking order at Roma.

Marseille have signed Bakary Kone from Nice for around 8m.

I still remember one time when Wenger was singing his praises after a really successful 2005/2006 season.

He will need a tall partner to work off though, I think he isn't much over 5'3. Yikes

He played at leftback for Croatia this summer even though his natural position is as a winger.

I've heard some good things about him, he finished third in the Dutch player of the Year awards behind Gomes and Heitinga.

Hopefully it's true then. Behrami and Pranjic either side sounds pretty good actually...though I think we'd be looking at him as a LW...as we are getting rid of Boa Morte...

Nope, they already have Afellay....so Aissati wouldn't get any playing time.

Aissati next to Blind and Van Basten and will work with Bergkamp, 3 Legends of the Club .. if he is not inspired, then he will never be. Good acquisition.

Claude Makelele signs for PSG

Can PSG challenge for the title this season, or are they still a few quality players short?

They're still a good four or five players short. Makelele is old and wont give them much imo. They need a striker to replace Pauleta, a defender to replace Yepes, a decent RB, a decent second striker...

In other French news, Lyon have bought Mensah, and Monaco have loaned Adu.

Marseille look like real contenders though: Ben Arfa and Kon! Kon is a gem of a player, he'll improve them no end. Getting Ben Arfa in and Nasri out may also prove very shrewd.

Never seen Mensah play, but I hear he is good. Lyon really needed a CB too. I think they're possibly compiling their strongest squad yet.

I think they'll be too strong for the other teams

Freddy Adu will leave Benfica to go to Monaco on loan for a season. Why is that, Benfica/Portuguese fans?

-----------

And it seems PSG are interested in Gudjohnsen. Where did they get all this money from all of a sudden?

With the arrival of Aimar,C Martins and apparently another forward player, Adu space was taken. We have an excess of midfield players. Good or bad option, we shall see (I bet money on the bad option, I'm sure we would have done nicely with time and effort)

A loan spell would do him good, same as Coentrao at Zaragoza
It's the buy option that irkes me.

Also, there are rumors that Benfica would like Drenthe on a season loan from Real, plus Beletti. Those are the positions we are in need at the moment

Belletti would be a good buy IMO. He's a decent attacking fullback, but not good enough for the highest level. Plus now he is unlikely to play much at Chelsea with Ferreira still there, and Bosingwa also being signed.

I was checking this topic and saw it, Pawel Golanski is a right/left full back for Steaua and Polish NT...but Jaroslaw Kolakovski is not a player, he's an football agent.
Wondering if your list had more agents included Smile.

PS. I also have a question to portuguese members - anybody watched Belenenses last season? Is this true that CB Hugo Alcantara had a good season, after being such a big disappointment for Legia Warsaw season before?

I stinger, that list was copied for one of the 3 daily sport newspapers that we have in Portugal
I think they have come up with at least 80 names of players so far that "Benfica" is interested...Smile

From what I recall, H Alcantara had an OK season with Belenenses

Shame he's not actually any good in real life. When he played left-back for us it ended up being a one-way street for the opposition.

Wasn't he a natural centreback as well? He was really good for Leverkusen during their CL run in 2001/02.
