Fuck. They're saying suicide. Maybe something to do with this mysterious illness that kept him out the last two months. This is a shock.

Hannover's president is saying that he was very sensitive (perhaps mentally unstable). The public didn't know that because he covered it up. Enke and his wife had lost their two-year old daughter three years ago.

Sounds like depression-related suicide. So sad. God, the guy was my age.

Yikes

sounds like suicide

I wonder whether Löw NOT nominating him for the next two Mannschaft games had anything to do with it

the whole Adler mania might not have helped

but surely

the reason must be deeper

Poor lad killed himself! However he is c**t for ruining the life of not only his family but also that of the train operator.

Maybe he was lurking on this site and couldnt handle the criticism you Germans (mainly otto) gave on him?

Daaamn, I just read the news.
Shocking to say at least and I do hope he is happy.

I do think throwing yourself in front of a train is indeed very egocentrically but really when you are so depressed who can blame him?

Well the first sentence is true, its even harder for his wife and overall a bad way to commit suicide.
Its not the same as driving with a car into another car to comit suicde and probably killing sb else too, but still hard for the train operator.

But i dont know how much a depressed person can be very rational. Probably not much.

.

Exactly, from outside perspective it is a selfish way to kill yourself, but if you are distressed enough to want to (and be willing to) end your own life, it's likely that you are not going to be entirely rational & reasonable about the method you use.

And unfortunately in many places jumping in front of a train is one of the most accessible methods (whereas in USA/Switzerland etc, a gun would be easiest). Someone I used to know at school killed himself this way not long back. Horrible to think about.

I wasn't getting at him for that part - it was the "joke" bit that just feels wrong at the moment.

It *is* awful for his wife, who has now lost her husband as well and of course the train operator will be traumatised for quite some time... But as you said, depressed people are not rational and aren't capable of considering other people's feelings and emotions. Or their inner pain, desperation and drive is too overwhelming for them to care about things like that.

I think it says a lot that he chose to throw himself in front of a train as opposed to slashing his wrists or taking pills - he really wanted to end his life and he really wanted to make sure it would end. Hopefully, one day, there will be answers as to why he did it.

Well the constant criticism on him must be some of his reasons why he was so depressed, I'm not saying you killed him.

And if he wanted to go that badly, he could have hung himself. Going to jump for a train is very selfish. Not only for the train opperator but think about the guys that need to clean that mess up. And the delays it will cause for other people.
