AFAIK, Kahn was still active in those 10 (15) years in which a Bundesliga side (Germany) hasn't won a title. Talking about irony.

Kahn was the LAST German winner in 2001

besides

a goalie has limited influence during a game

-----

decent blog on spox

http://www.spox.com/myspox/blogdetail/Echte-Maenner-braucht-das-Land---,135861.html

the chap is right: those successful "flat-hierarchy" teams usually have a VERY STRONG and CHARISMATIC manager

+

often a LOT more leadership on the pitch than perceived

the successful Arsenal sides, for instance, had VERY strong characters on the pitch

in this sense

the current Bayern, which are light on leaders on the pitch and do NOT have a STRONG, charismatic manager, "should" struggle in the CL

same applies to leaderless Germany under Löw

irrespective of the flair and dash on display at times

The point is that most of us have tired of pointing out the obvious flaw in just quoting someone – anyone – whose remarks seem to support your clichés. I mean even you have just pointed out that Boateng is an idiot for just bigging up wherever he happens to be at the time, for feck's sake Laugh

Ulmen etc. I have printed out to read later.

I doubt you watched the game – Brazil hactually looked strong in defence and sharp on the counter, certainly much improved from their performance against Scotland against Arsenal that I went to a few months ago. I have been pointing out for a while that their team/squad looks desperately average these days but they were well outplayed, more than the single-goal margin suggested, and I don't know when that last happened against a German side.

Question to Otto:

What do you think of Theo Walcott's implicit criticisms of Fabio Capello's starchy, joyless, highly disciplinarian managerial style?

Pretty funny to label Xavi and Lampard as classic aggressive Führungsspieler and deny this to Schweinsteiger. The same old usual must-fit-to-stereotypes mentality and grass-is-greener rubbish.

What am I supposed to say about the Ulmen interview? Entertaining stuff, good lad. The story with Bastian was classic. You know Herr Lehmann, right?

you can do better on the Ulmen interview, allez

the lad is YOUR hero, not mine

and now says that he CRAVES real LADS on the pitch

hell

not even just lads, but GHETTO kids Laugh

and then basically ridicules Heynckes for being a Rosamunde Pilcher character

Smile

you don't need much imagination to figure out what Ulmen would say about YOUR heroes Lahm, Hitz, Merte, Adler, Neuer, Löw....

ie

the good man 100% disagree with YOUR/blut's... vision of what a football should be -like in this day and age

Ale

and CRAVES "Neanderthalers"

lol!

---------

Walcott is a tool

just like Capello

I wonder whether his England career will now be on hold under the Italian

-----

as for your admiration for the win over Brazil

as I said

MEANINGLESS stuff

we ALL know that Brazil are a SHADOW of their former selves

as are France, for instance

ANYBODY can beat those Brazilians, even if they will be THE team to beat in three years

at the moment, the Mannschaft is FAR better man for man, AND as a team

Lucio just told Sportbild that Germany now had "MORE GREAT TALENTS"

cheers

and only a fool would disagree

the current Brazil are IN TRANSITION and very young

+

the fear factor is gone now that the BIG NAMES are no longer there

no Kaka, no Ronaldinho, no Ronaldo, Adriano...

in other words

the psychological EDGE that Brazil traditionally HAD is gone completely

it would have been interesting to see what would have happened though, had Brazil scored the FIRST goal, playing ATTACKING football

would Germany have been intimidated and been able to draw level ?

a mostly defensive, counterattacking Brazil were never going to strike fear in German hearts

hence

why the TEST was USELESS

even if winning against the yellow shirts ALWAYS boosts self confidence

Ale

this was the FIRST game for Lahm where he was no longer merely the stand in captain (after Ballack got kicked out)

and what a SHITTY game it was

concedes a penalty and gets overrun by Pato

the boy ALWAYS has his worst games when the eyes are ON him

big game choker

good stuff in the current 11 Freunde

in particular about our last team that has won something

the heroes of 1996

the nickname for Bierhoff was "Schleimbeutel" because he always ingratiated himself to Vogts

Laugh

apparently, our heroes were NOT really looking forward to penalties against England at all though

Eilts and Bode were terrified, Babbel and even Sammer tried to dodge the bullet as well

Yikes

Möller , however, REALLY wanted to take the penalty after the first England miss

and said something like "Ich nehm den, ja ?"

Kohler was SERIOUSLY not amused to have been "overlooked" for the captaincy and there was real tension between him and Klinsi

Basler was feeding the over 200 journalists with team gossip and others hated it

so that Ziege hitting Basler's ankle in training was maybe NO coincidence

when the Czech's got a ridiculous penalty in the final against Germany, Sammer nearly lost it and Kuntz YELLED at SAmmer to STOP WHINGING until after the game

and so it continues

Merte talks about leadership, hierarchies, Oliver Kahn, Ballack...

and let's just say

he is NOT in the Lahm corner

or rather

Merte is a BIG fan of Balle , the player

and also defends him as a LEADER

cheers

he says Kahn was excellent at helping YOUNG players as well, even with non-football related matters

basically, he shatters every MYTH Lahm has been spreading recently with the help of the media

Merte tops all of this though cheers

by saying something like this

"Ballack is very ambitious. He will try to fight to get his place ( in the Mannschaft) back. It's for Löw to decide then"

Yikes

in other words, Merte sees Balle bang in the middle of a fight for a Mannschaft return, DESPITE Löw's official "Auf NIMMER Wiedersehen"

cheers

what a legend

I also had Merte down as flat-hierarchy guy who drives a Golf and did Social rather than Military Service

how wrong I was

Merte was always in MY CORNER

Laugh

Werder have just lost one of their greatest ever players

lol!

See otto, the only guy in all of Germany who actually believes that there are 'corners' on this issue is....you. Yolu're fighting an ideological fight nobody seems to think worth fighting. Many people agree with Löw, but they also agree with Sammer often.

blut

you are knee-deep in shit, and you knows it

the Merte comments even took me aback

we ALL know that there is ZERO chance of a Balle comeback to the Mannschaft fold

NONE whatsoever

a) Löw has made up his mind

b) we just had a war of words between the two where they each accused the other of blatantly lying

the boat has sailed

even I don't get excited about the topic anymore : pure fantasy is not my thing, it's as futile as discussing the introduction of a Soziale Marktwirtschaft in the USA

it's for this reason that Merte speculating out loud about a return of Balle is so WEIRD

there is clearly an awful lot of WISHFUL thinking involved

and THAT is what you and I had NOT seen coming

it's breathtaking, when you think about it

Merte wants a 34 year old sub at Leverkusen to replace somebody like Khedira or Götze or God knows who for Germany in the squad

and has the balls to go public with this

cheers

meanwhile, YOU think losing Augusto would be a HUGE loss for Bayer, since Balle would then have to replace him

Laugh

the GULF between what YOU think and what Merte thinks is

an OCEAN

lol!

and as always, you live in cloud-cuckoo-land

Yikes

-----------

Lehmann question Neuer again

------------

and Cesc Fabregas , the YOUNG SPANISH ex-Captain of Arsenal, thinks that the gunners have a problem: they don't have any REAL LEADERS on the pitch

Laugh

hilarious stuff

and you truly could not make it up

The Times is now beginning to wonder whether Arsene's philosophy still works

in the past, Wenger would say "I don't believe in LEADERS, I believe in players who can pass the ball"

but the 8:2 against ManU means that many nuggets of wisdom are beginning to look like pyramids of piffle

the flat-hierarchy house of cards is collapsing at Arsenal

soon it will collapse in Germany as well

interview with Badstuber, the Justin Bieber of the Mannschaft

he points out how important FÜHRUNGSSPIELER like von Bommel and Schweini were for him , when things were not going so well at Bayern

cheers

if THAT is not the nail in flat-hierarchy nonsense debate , NOTHING will be

funny also, that he mentions Schweini and von Bommel and NOT Lahm, a fellow defender and the Bayern captain

Laugh

ie

he is 100% NOT in Lahm's flat-hierarchy camp

lol!

Löw thinks our leaders are Lahm, Schweini, Klose and Merte

seems like he has dropped Friedrich from that list

Hans Sarpei reveals all

http://www.11freunde.de/bundesligen/144001/die_witze_sind_richtig_lustig

talks about leadership, winning ugly, von Bommel, Magath...

Ale

amazing to see he is NOT anti-Magath

the media reported he was one of the Magath opponents

Doh

------------

there is also an excellent interview in the current 11 Freunde with Sammer

fantastic Ossi Ale

he says they had a good talk with representatives of the Spanish FA in the past

as part of a fact finding mission

similar to what Stuart Pearce did when he visited the DFB

the Spanish FA chaps told our guys that their turning point lies 20 years back

when they decided/discovered that the big Spanish weakness was the mental side

back then they started working on developing mentally stronger players: winners and leaders

apparently, they have some kind of personality points catalog they use as help

the Spanish FA guys said that Charles Puyol was a good example of their programme

initially, he was considered NOT to be good enough technically

but they nurtured him for his leadership skills alone

Ale

reminds me of Iniesta saying it really is about winning, not entertaining

---

funny , that Löw is ignoring the REAL lessons and learning all the wrong ones

Sammer thinks that the reason for the current Spanish superiority is this "leadership/winning" approach

and says that the FRENCH and DUTCH also have great TALENTS but that THEY have ignored the mental side and are therefore lagging behind

Sammer also says that a team consists of three kinds of players: team-players, technically brilliant individuals and leaders

and that the trick is to always have more leaders on the pitch than individuals

he cites an example from some U-team, where Gebhardt, an "Individualist" always did his won thing, ending in him losing the ball eventually

one of the Benders would then shout at Timo, but the lad would should yell back and tell the others to mind their own business

only when the two Benders teamed up and sorted out Timo, did he get his act together, and in fact, become one of the best players of the team

according to Sammer, Khedira was a LEADER for our U-21 team, but is now merely a team-player at Real

clearly needs more time for the next step

for Sammer, we now have to work on the last % to reach the top

the basics are all there

but THE AIM has to be to produce the next European/World Footballers of the Year

cheers

I will NEVER understand how the Ossi can generate so much HATRED from the likes of blut and allez

hilarious reactions on the stupendous success of the "Piratenpartei" in the politically correct media

the feminists (ie 99% of ALL German journalists) now discovered that the new "Pirate MPs" are effectively all male

hardly a surprise, considering the party is basically a nerdy-IT-Internet-campaign platform, that until recently virtually nobody had even heard of (I think FOUR of the new Berlin MPs even work in the same company)

that you could get an astonishing 9% with a bunch of MALE nerds

starting out of nowhere, is of little interest to the gendermainstreaming Gutmenschen

they now even (sometimes) DEMAND, that the IT-nerds introduce FEMALE quotas for their top positions

lol! Laugh

let the clownish MALE nerds do all the WORK and then let the WOMEN get a piece of the PIE

Smile

it's gets better though

the respected, if left-wing, SPIEGEL argues a bit like this (in German)

"

""

to our ENglish friends

a girl called Leena Simon tried to become one of the VICE-chairmen of the party, or in her case woman

as SOLE FEMALE candidate

she was

horror shock

STILL voted down

Yikes

when really (the implication of the article), her gender alone should have assured her the position

Laugh

alright

so WHO is this Leena Simon , I hear you shout ?

if the NATIONAL QUALITY PAPERS rubbish the admittedly silly Piratenpartei because they did not make her Vice-Chai(wo)man of the party

we want to know who this woman, whose rejection causes tremors in the German media forest, really is

RIGHT ?

well, two years prior to Frau Simon's failure to just waltz into the Vice-chairmanship of the Pirates, the lady was running for election at the student council at Potsdam University

she gave some kind of interview to a University chap, talking about what she and her fellow students were campaigning for

it's COMEDY GOLD and should NOT be watched whilst drinking a beverage

(not every keyboard takes kindly to coffee spillage)

and always REMEMBER

the failure of THIS woman to immediately waltz into the VICE position at the Piratenpartei

purely based on her gender

caused the national press to cry

FOWL PLAY

lol! Doh

Laugh

only in Germany

Yikes

also interesting, the posts below the Spiegel article

"Shine up your Damenklo!" Shocked

Though I can actually understand that they want the 'good' toilet paper and none of that one-layer-recycling stuff. pale Evil or Very Mad

All in all - this is why I rarely vote in the student council elections.
