    How much is Fabregas worth?

Post by Alive and Kicking on Wed May 19, 2010 5:46 am

With these new rumors coming up with Fabregas, that apparently he wants to join Barca. How much do you think he is worth? and How much Arsenal could sell him?

I think it's impossible to compare to single other transfers. But Zlatan, Kaka and Ronaldo all went for such huge fee's last year. Cesc is also at a good age. Arsenal will surely demand 50 mill minimum. Whether Barca think they should pay that for a former player is up to them but i cant see Arsenal selling for less. IMO Cesc is worth around 40-45 million.

Neither broke worldwide transfer records though, which is what people seem to think Fabregas is worthy of.

Besides Daniel Levy has proven that he can squeeze blood from a stone, He sold Darren Bent for what he bought him for, despite him being terrible.

Watch some poor sap pay at least £9mil for Robbie Keane despite him being atrocious for the past 18+ months (Scotland doesn't count)

I expect the deal that will be settled on will be something like Touré + £30m.

I'd be happy with that - as long as the £30m was directly invested back into the squad - a top class keeper and a top class centre back (£15m each).

Don't want less than 40 million, unless it involves a decent swap deal.

Talent wise I would value him at £50m plus an extra £10m premium for the fact he is Catalonian and also Barcelona have pretty much been using his image rights for the last few seasons, "Cesc's DNA is at Barca" is just one example of the nonsense we have heard from Laporta, Xavi, Messi, Pique etc ...

The £30m - £35m reserve I heard Hunter quoting this morning would be an utter joke, but part of the negotiating process I'm sure. If they want him that bad they better get down the bank for a loan or overdraft extension because he cannot be sold on the cheap.

I wouldn't be keen on Zlatan and anyhow it seems unlikely he will be added to any deal. Yaya Toure would be another matter, but since he hasn't featured too often over the past season his value can't be considered as vast.

£40m plus Yaya Toure would be satisfactory.

The one spot of relief is that Bojan won't be offered in exchange. We were linked with Caceres a month back, I wouldn't want him either.

Straight cash or maybe add to Yaya Toure into the mix.

It's unlikely that Toure will be involved in any swap deal. His agent has ruled that out, and I'm not sure it will make sense from either clubs perspective either (Barca could get more cash for him elsewhere, Arsenal already have Song)

Personally, I think Barca are better off keeping Toure instead of courting Cesc anyway. He's unecessary at this point in time.

Well i think you Arsenal fans are kidding yourself if you think he is worth 40million + Toure (effectively something like 60 million).

The truth is that he is about the same level as Montolivo, but might be worth slightly more because he is younger.

    So 20-25 million at best.

The real surprise is that Barca are not after Montolivo since he's = to Cesc yet would cost about 2 mill euro+ Abidal

That's the crux of it. Really don't see why they're so desperate to get him this summer. The priority is surely a wide forward. With Xavi and Iniesta already there there really isn't a need for a player like Cesc at the moment - in a couple of years when Xavi's age might start kicking in, sure, but at the moment its not going to improve their midfield. Too many cooks spoil the broth as the saying goes.

Indeed that is very surprising. But then Barca are known to be mugs in the transfer market, especially after last summer.

Laporta is leaving and obviously wants to leave his mark with a bang. They have Villa/Messi/Bojan/Ibra/Pedro so i don't think they really need a forward.

Barcelona don't need him indeed. But maybe they now want to sign him so badly to prevent Real Madrid to sign him in near future? Just speculation, of course, but Xavi at least has a number of years left in him before he needs proper replacement.

As I said in the other thread, Real Madrid need a player like him much more.

Thiago Alacantara + JDS. Barca already have 2 like for like replacements. Thiago plays like Iniesta (but with goals too), JDS similar ilk of Xavi. Not saying either will necessarily prove to be as good (the latter certainly won't be as good as Xavi) but both are promising.

I honestly think Thiago has a very big future ahead of him.

Needless to say, if Cesc comes, they'll be marginalised given how young Cesc is.

Cesc has pretty much said that he'll olny leave Arsenal for Barcelona though - I imagine he hates Real, being a Catalan.

I don't know why he's so keen to leave now. Maybe Arsenal could simply set up a deal this summer like Utd did with Real Madrid a couple of years back - an agreed price and a first option.

Yes, but like I said, how can Barca accommodate him, Xavi and Iniesta? I think that it could weaken them if they try and shoe in all three. They'll either try and play Iniesta or Cesc out of position on the left or they'll weaken themselves defensively and shift Xavi and Iniesta back.

    -------Messi-----Cesc--------Iniesta

    -------------------Villa---------

Anyway as has been said, there's no need for Barca to sign him at this moment in time.

And if you truly believe Montolivo=Cesc, then I don't know what to say to you Bobo.

I won't disagree with that. Maybe it's just Barca being greedy - they have a dominant position in the league and Europe, and want to keep it, so they further invest in the squad to have the edge, especially since their biggest rival is on a spending spree and came rather close in this year's title race.

It could go all wrong, the balance could be destroyed etc. pp. But filthy rich big clubs tend to hoard class players, even if they don't really need them. Often, it is to prevent others from signing them.

La Liga will be hilarious next season. I reckon Madrid and Barca will be trying to win 7-0 and if Messi and Ronaldo stay fit maybe get 100 goals between them.
