If he can stay fit, he will strengthen Leverkusen considerably. They have a young, talented but relatively inexperienced team that already benefitted a lot from Sami Hyypiä's experience in the defence this season, especially in the first half. Ballack will not just add experience, but genuine quality to their midfield. Fitness will be a factor, but Leverkusen will be a force to reckon with if he remains injury free, more than they were last season even.

They are the ultiamte form of Vizekusen now Biggrin

Ok, now for real: Good move excited to see him back in the league. Leverkusens team look really good on paper actually.

It's funny the Germans don't realise just how awful Ballack is these days. He'll weaken any team he joins. Paying 12 mill just because he was the golden boy 8 years ago smacks of stupidity.

At his position he's still class.

He is a workhouse, Like Makelele was for Real. He is not the same as 8 years ago, but can still play important parts. Chelsea better replace him with an acutal fighter nad not with a "play nice" boy like deco was.

Deco and Ballack were both not good enough. Those two and j Cole were released but chelsea fans only care about the last because the first two were past their sell by date. He can maybe do a job for some team add some experience. But offering actual ability? Not anymore. For 12 mill that is crazy. But we'll see how it goes. I think a lot of you will be surprised how much he has declined. Chelsea have enough workers like Mikel or Essien. They probably will go for Pirlo type.

It's very likely €12m before tax. €6m before tax / year is about €3-3.5m in net wages in Germany. Still a lot of money, especially for a club like Leverkusen, but compared to other high paid players in the league, it's not that much.

And let us not forget that Leverkusen paid no transfer fee, so wages will always be higher. Wolfsburg offered him €17m even.

if I was a Werder fan, I would be LIVID now

and ask for Allofs's HEAD Grr

Ballack chose "emotional ties" OVER "money"

flushed 5 million Euro down the toilet

Bremen could EASILY pay 12 million over two years WITHOUT selling anybody in exchange

    Allofs has officially lost it

    ----

interesting also to see Allofs COMMENT during the France vs Mexico game

he said that he was in South Africa also to scout a bit

    but that

    "OF COURSE

we could not afford ANY of the players we see here today"

(ie ALL of the French and MEXICANS are categorically OUT of Bremen's REACH, he thinks)

    Doh

It's not what Werder can or can't, but what Werder doesn't want to do. Werder Bremen won't sign a thirty something midfielder and pay him 50% more than the highest earner at the club. It's simply not the Werder philosophy.

The general 'stinginess' is a different matter though.

    blut

Ballack is not just any 30-something-midfielder

    and YOU knows it

    he is "der Capitano" lol!

    fuck, blut, WAKE UP

Ballack would have REBRANDED your entire club

as for the salary, who cares?

Ballack is an exceptional player, give him an exceptional salary

    still

it's just a question of SPINNING the news

just say , he gets the SAME salary as Frings (ie 4 million)

the REST is a SIGNING-ON FEE

    what's wrong with that ?

I also would not be surprised , if you could have managed to keep the exact FIGURE a secret

No matter how big the name or even talent, it's still a risk, because nobody can say how long he can stay fit and perform on the highest level. You may like it or not, but Werder's approach makes sense, too.
