    U19 EC 2010

Post by SuperMario on Thu Jul 15, 2010 12:41 pm

Kicks off in 3 days in France.

    Group North:
    France, Austria, England & Holland

    Group South:
    Croatia, Italy, Portugal & Spain

In case you're wondering where the representatives of the endless conveyor belt are: they had their asses whooped 3-0 by Holland (basically Feyenoord U19).

The Spain U-19 is exactly like the senior team - full of Barça players. Marked in bold below.

    1 Álex (GK)
    2 Martín Montoya
    3 Carles Planas
    4 Marc Bartra

    5 Jorge Pulido
    6 Oriol Romeu
    7 Keko (C)
    8 Thiago Alcántara
    9 Rodri
    10 Sergio Canales
11 Daniel Pacheco (the "Cesc". ie. left the club as a youngster)

    Subs:
    13 Aitor (GK)
    12 Hugo Mallo
    14 Iker Muniain
    15 Ramiro Mayor
    16 Ezequiel Calvente
    17 Koke
    18 Rúben Rochina

That's a relatively strong team by Spain - Canales of course is the big star, but Munian has also been playing regularly for Athletic in the past season and is their next big hope.

Barcelona the saviour of Spanish football. cheers

I recognise the captain Keko, we were linked with a move for him not so long ago and being a player at Atletico he was dubbed 'the new Fernando Torres'.

England 2-1 up against Austria. Frank Nouble with both the goals. <Ale>

France and Holland play in a few hours, from the line-ups the only French players I only know Kakuta and Coquelin and the striker Castaignos for Holland. Rodney Sneijder is also on the bench.

Not watching, but France is beating Holland 2:0 at HT and they are in full control, they've missed penalty too. Kakuta scored one of the goals.

4-1 for France and that could have been worse if Grenier hadn't missed his penalty and Griezmann shot on the post. Good to see there are some promising talents such as Kakuta, Bakambu and Griezmann. I only know a few of them.

Italy are usually shite at this level.... did anyone watch this game? Just wanted to know how young Destro did.... one of the few Inter primavera stars who I think could make it big.... scores tonnes of goals at junior levels...

Watched the England v Holland match. Seems when in doubt the FA selectors opt for the tallest bloke. Seems they're in doubt a lot.

The only thing Holland had to do was put some pressure on the player with the ball and half the time they just hopefully hoofed it as far away as possible. The England goalie was best at it. Couldn't even keep it in play.

Watched the last 20 mins of Spain vs. Portugal. As you may expect, Spain resembled the senior side, but play slightly longer range passes, and use the long ball to the flanks a lot. Pacheco was very good and drifted to the left a la Villa. Winning goal (in injury time) was excellent.
