    Injuries/suspensions 2010/2011

Post by stinger on Wed 21 Jul 2010 - 14:33

I never saw this kind of topic here, but maybe it will be useful (at least for FF competitors) to have all injury related stuff in one topic.
    We start with Chelsea:

Chelsea's goalkeeper Petr Cech will be out of action for a month after tearing a calf muscle in his right leg.

Cech, 28, suffered the injury in training on Tuesday, and medical tests confirmed he will miss the start of the new season as a result.

Cech missed a month of last season with a similar injury sustained at Internazionale in the Champions League.

A spokesman for Chelsea confirmed: "Petr will be out for around a month after scans showed a tear in his right calf. He is expected to miss the rest of the pre-season campaign."

So, it means Turnbull or Hillario in a first 1-2 games?

    ok

The table you can almost guarantee Arsenal will be leading after a few months. Physioroom is usually the place to keep up with the injury news with clubs in the Premier League.

You forget how fragile West Ham squads seem to be.

Same injury he did against Inter Milan. Hopefully this won't be a persistent injury.

Anyway, games he'll miss are Man Utd (CS), West Brom (home), Wigan (away) and Stoke (home).

I'm not particularly fussed about the Community Shield and the 3 league games shouldn't be difficult (even if we did lose at Wigan last season).

    Chelsea is an early leader:

Premier League champions Chelsea have suffered further injury problems with defender Alex likely to be ruled out for a month because of thigh trouble.

The 28-year-old Brazilian international centre-half, who made his Chelsea debut in 2007, was injured in training.

And former Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who signed for £5.5m this month, is out with a groin injury.

Alex seems to get lots of injuries. Not necessarily long term, just lots of months out here and there.

Probably what's held him back from being established first choice there.

    ---

Sunderland have a lot out, according to physioroom. Gordon, McCartney, Turner, Reid and Cattermole. That's a big chunk of their team..

Another one from Chelsea, they are lucky that all of their players won't be out for more than a month:

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is likely to miss the start of the season after undergoing a groin operation.

The club described the procedure performed on the Ivory Coast international as "minimally invasive".

And it is expected that Drogba, 31, will return to full training in about three weeks.

That estimate would, however, put him out of the Charity Shield match against Manchester United on 8 August and the start of the Premier League campaign.

    Finally some competition for Chelsea:

Rio Ferdinand may not return to action until early September after the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he is still six weeks away from full fitness.

Ferdinand suffered a knee ligament injury while in pre-World Cup training with England on 4 June, but in early July it was suggested by United that he might be fit for the opening Premier League game against Newcastle on 16 August.

However, Ferguson now estimates that it will take him longer. "Rio is probably around six weeks away from playing," he said.

That diagnosis would also make him a doubt for England's first two Euro 2012 qualifiers, against Bulgaria and Switzerland on 3 and 7 September respectively.

Michael Owen (hamstring) has yet to resume training while Anderson is expected back in late September and Owen Hargreaves has remained in the United States to continue treatment after a recurrence of a tendinitis problem."

Chelsea have a fairly undemanding set of (league) fixtures for the first month of the season until they hit City at the end of September, followed by Arsenal, which is probably why they've decided to get all the operations etc out of the way.

Ferdinand's injury must be a concern to Utd, though I daresay it's six Fergie weeks, so expect to see him on the team list by end of August.

I think Ferdinand's career is more or less over now. Ferguson should pick either Smalling or Evans as the first choice partner for Vidic and go from there.

Arsenal starting to show their class in this particular title race. Bendtner will miss the start of the season.

Rolling Eyes - though it sort of makes the decision for the formation for the first few matches. Chamakh and Arshavin it is.

Apparently Rosicky and Djourou hobbled off after yesterday's friendly too.

    Carrick out:

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is to miss the start of the Premier League season because of an ankle injury, the club have confirmed.

Carrick picked up the problem during United's 7-1 defeat of an Airtricity League of Ireland side on Wednesday.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said the 29-year-old will be out for "a couple of weeks" as a result.

"Michael hurt his ankle. It is nothing serious but he will miss the start of the season," Ferguson added.

Nasri undergoes minor surgery on his knee

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri will today undergo minor surgery on his knee following a meniscal injury sustained during the match against Liverpool on Sunday.

Nasri, who has been in impressive form, will be out of action for a month.

    Lovely, just lovely.

Luckily Fabregas is now available and Rosicky's encouraging cameo against Liverpool means we aren't completely short in this area.

Agger suffering from concussion - he has no memory of the match v Arsenal

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/08/18/2076916/liverpool-defender-daniel-agger-has-no-memory-of-arsenal

I know Liverpool'd had used up all the subs but I was rather disturbed Agger was allowed to carry on. The club doc obviously wanted him to come off.

    SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arsenal announce Robin van Persie injury setback
    By ESPNsoccernet staff

    September 7, 2010

Arsenal have confirmed that Robin van Persie is expected to be sidelined until the middle of October as a result of his ankle injury.

Van Persie suffered the problem in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers and was initially expected to be out of action for around a month, meaning he would have been hoping to return to action before the end of September.

That now looks an unrealistic prognosis with Arsenal confirming that his likely period of recuperation has been extended by around a further two weeks.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Robin van Persie will have to wait a little longer before he is back in the first-team frame. The Dutchman injured his ankle against Blackburn Rovers on August 28 and will be sidelined for longer than first anticipated. Van Persie is likely to be out of action until mid-October."

Van Persie will certainly miss the club's first two Champions League games against Braga and Partizan Belgrade and could be unavailable for up to five Premier League games, including the trip to Chelsea on October 3.

So when will he *really* be back - December? February? April?

Bugger, I'd forgotten about that Grr

Chamakh, Vela and Arshavin better come back unscathed.

....especially as Walcott will be out for several weeks now. Thankfully no break but a twisted ankle.

Everton manager David Moyes has described Jack Rodwell’s injury as a blow - but insists the teenage prodigy can still have a big impact on Blues’ season.

Moyes confirmed the England Under-21 international has been ruled out for up to three months with an ankle problem sustained in the 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

Rodwell had to be substituted after tangling with Villa defender Stephen Warnock.

    Grr Grr Grr

And probably fact that he was playing for next few minutes made it worse Doh
