    Premier League week 3 - 28th/29th August 2010

Post by Luis on Fri Aug 27, 2010 2:09 pm

    Saturday, 28 August 2010
    Blackburn v Arsenal
    Blackpool v Fulham
    Chelsea v Stoke
    Tottenham v Wigan
    Wolverhampton v Newcastle
    Man Utd v West Ham

    Sunday, 29 August 2010
    Bolton v Birmingham
    Liverpool v West Brom
    Sunderland v Man City
    Aston Villa v Everton

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably the least inspiring fixtures so far but having said that I can see there being a ridiculous amount of goals scored this weekend.

Arsenal usually find it tough going to places like Blackburn so it will be interesting to see how that goes and whether Theo can continue his form.

Chelsea should get another 5 or 6 past Stoke - they don't seem to be the same mean, defensive side they were last season so far.

United will rip West Ham apart.

Villa-Everton is probably the pick, Don't know what to make of Villa yet, nor Everton.

So you've won 5/10, some of which might have just been scraped. It will be a tough place to go and you messed up at places like Birmingham and Wigan last season if I remember correctly, that was my general point.

Every time we play against Villa for a last few matches I thought it's the time to beat them, to learn later it wasn't the right time after all. So maybe on sunday? Some of their 1st team players had a tough game last night, which ended with a disappointment, plus I hope that MacDonald will continue to play Ireland as CM.

Unfortunately Moyes will keep his boring line-up with Neville/Hibbert as RB, Osman as RM and Cahill as AM. So it's tough to be too optimistic, especially after poor games against Blackburn and Wolves.

Last time we played at Ewood Park, Fabianski was in goal Grr Grr Grr , and we were missing Verm, Gallas, Clichy, Song, and Fab. We'll be in a somewhat better shape tomorrow.

    Manuel

    Bac - Koscielny - Verm - Clichy

    Fab - Song - Rosicky

    Theo - Chamakh

    VanP

Nevertheless it's not exactly one of our favourite venues and they'll kick, niggle and crowd the box at every opportunity, Kosc and Verm need to be on their toes.

67% win rate against Blackburn according to SSN.

'why is Cesc Fabregas not playing? if they can't keep him happy..' Jamie Redknapp is truly a moron.

When we lost to Blackburn and Wigan last season, we had nothing left to play for and we also had numerous injuries.

Just for your record, thoe scraped victories include two 4-0 batterings.

I remember one of those batterings could just as easily have 4-4 the other way round had Blackburn taken their chances.

Hope we carry on from last week. I've not seem Blackpool play as yet so not sure how open ro defensive they are. I would imagine them playing at home, they will try to attack.

We could have scored more. This debate is futile as it's all ifs and buts.

    Fair enough.

I think Luis was trying to make the cliched point you struggle against Allardyce's team as opposed to Blackburn per se.

Blackpool is very open, they attack with at least 4 players every time, Harewood looks again as a big threat - he's in decent shape, and motivated, which is a key for him.

This is on BBC site though not sure if it's the final line up

    01 Almunia
    03 Sagna
    05 Vermaelen
    06 Koscielny
    22 Clichy
    02 Diaby
    04 Fabregas
    14 Walcott
    17 A Song
    23 Arshavin
    10 Van Persie

Chamakh on bench - I would have thought this would be one match he would be useful for.

    Understand Rosicky, surprised about Chamakh.

Yes I'd have started him ahead of Arshavin - however it means we have an option. I doubt if either Arsh or VanP will play 90 minutes.

van Persie has an excellent record against Blackburn so it's no surprise to see him come into the line-up. Looks a strong team & bench today.

Subs: Fabianski, Gibbs, Vela, Eboue, Rosicky, Wilshere & Chamakh

Kos looked decent in the air against Pool. But that was facing Torres and N'Gog. We will see.

Great assist by Robin. Good he's around again. Has had a major impact on Theo's performances.
