EPL approved the VDV transfer to Tottenham. Good luck to him, he had one sh!t season and one good one but it was clear he was never going to have the opportunities at Real Madrid after the Ozil signing. He's a really talented player, that much is obvious, and Spurs seems like a place where he could flourish (although what they will do with Modric who knows, but that is not our problem) and be the main attraction.

Re: Real Madrid C.F. 2010/11

Post by TM on Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:52 pm

The 22-year-old defender had trained regularly with Jose Mourinho's squad during the pre-season, and even received a call-up for the Primera Division opener against Mallorca last weekend amidst Real Madrid's injury crisis in defence.

Before the departures of Rafael van der Vaart and Royston Drenthe to new pastures, Mourinho declared his intention to give Mateos a chance in the first team, saying, "It's a shame Mateos can't join us, but I like him a lot and I would like him to be part of the first team."

However, because La Liga rules state that a team may register a maximum of 25 first team players, David Mateos has been given the green light to claim the last available squad place, which was left vacant by Van der Vaart's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Earlier this week, Mateos had signed his first professional contract with the Spanish giants. It is also highly likely that Spaniard will be inscribed for Real Madrid's Champions League campaign.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Mateos will take the number 15 shirt, which previously belonged to Drenthe. Meanwhile, Mesut Oezil will inherit the famous number 23 jersey, which was worn by the likes of Van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, and David Beckham in the past.

Los Blancos now boast a total of 10 Spanish players in the first team with five of them from the cantera.

Promoted but I doubt he gets much playing time.. bounce

Erm

Nice to see Mateos registered with the first team. Apparently the club was trying to sell him but Mourinho wanted them to give him a professional contract. Pretty versatile which Mourinho likes. Hopefully he at least gets chances in Copa del Rey. Never know he might turn out decent.

"José Mourinho se quejó de nuevo en Nyon del trato arbitral a Cristiano Ronaldo. "Cristiano es un jugador que no tiene la cultura de la piscina, que no tiene la cultura de la simulación, es un jugador con formación británica, con formación Ferguson", señaló el técnico portugués."

Top quality mind games from Mourinho. Making it sound like Cristiano is the only one who has his ankles snapped at. *Every* top player suffers this treatment.

According to La Sexta, M. Diarra disappeared to Mali for the last 2 days of the transfer window, and refused to answer any calls, to ensure that he stays at Madrid lol!

Wasn't this guy the new Iniesta?

It really is sad when you end up having to root for the Catalufos.

Not a real sale because he can be bought back in the next two season. Otherwise I would have been mad. However his fate seems rather sealed considering the purchases of Canales/Ozil while Kaka being there so I suppose in that sense it doesn't matter whether or not he is sold/loaned out/stays because his future is probably not in Real Madrid.

More of a left winger than Iniesta. It's a shame because he is one of the kids that has real ability. But if he demonstrates it in Braga (where he could even play in the CL) then I don't see why he won't come back. By then Florentino might even be replaced by someone who actually gives a sh!t about the cantera.
