I wouldnt be so sure about that, Mourinho always makes sure his players are ready for every second of every match, plus he has a big squad to chose from.

They played 6 in total which is pretty normal. Many top clubs have a couple of CL/Europa qualifiers, or Super Cups that also count. For example, if you count the Super Cup games as part of pre-season for Barça, we also have had 6 games.

ok. it seem like more than that, as if they have one every other day

Khedira was excellent and Di Maria looked menacing throughout. I thought our team play was lacking but I do think that it seems that all of the players in the squad have quality and Mourinho seems to have all of them motivated. Canales and Ronaldo were probably our worst players today.

He's been very good in preseason and if it means that either Diarra gets onto the pitch I will be very irritated.

Drenthe, M. Diarra, and VDV to be left out of the squad for the first game:
http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/van-der-vaart-drenthe-diarra/dasftb/20100827dasdaiftb_32/Tes

What's going on with Ozil? I assume he still doesn't have a shirt number? Has he been temporarily registered with the B team till a squad spot opens up, or something like that?

No, Drenthe, Mahamadou, and VDV are not going to be given numbers. I assume Lass will take #6 and Ozil will get #10.

Isnt it a bit disrespectful to the fans when the club changes shirt numbers every season? I wouldnt like it if I buy a Pato 7 shirt then to see him wear the no 11 shirt the following year. Madrid does this with almost all their squad players, maybe Ronaldo to no7 is understandable since its a marketing term (like Phenomeno Ronaldo from 11 to 9) but Lass now to 6 and so on its ridiculous, Zidane took 5 eventhough its a defender number but he stuck with it.

Barça probably screwed over a lot of fans this summer by selling Ibrahimovic so late.

@TITO: is Villa definitely changing to 9? I would assume he'll keep 7 since that's his number for Spain and Valencia. Maybe Bojan or Robinho Erm will take 9.

OK that perfomance was below-par to say the least. But lets not get all dramatic or over analytical its only the first game of the season.

Although my Missing Poster for Di Maria is still up Doh

True, true. It was a disappointing result but the good news is the defence looked very good and we did create quite a few chances. Higuain and Ronaldo were not sharp enough. Benzema, well, I don't really expect much from him. Team is still a long way from being the finished product but that is what happens when you start from zero every year. I would have liked to see Pedro Leon coming on but whatever, we should have scored at least one. To be fair, Mallorca did play a pretty decent match (no doubt thanks to the Superior Being's managerial exploits). Anyhow, the year Barcelona won the triplete they started the season losing away to Numancia and drawing at home to Racing so....there's still hope! Biggrin

I was against signing another '9' but after last night, and Benzema's lacklustre performance. It wouldn't be a bad idea.

Benzema clearly has the talent but he needs to get things right in his head. What he needs is time. I don't see the point in spending more money for a 3rd option on the bench who will probably start >5 games a season and just put more bad thoughts in Benzema's already fragile mind.

Hows aboot given your canteranos a chance? Real are such a fucking, odious team. You've signed Pedro Leon just to let him stagnate on the bench when you could have promoted any number of "promising" canteranos.

Christ, I hope this project fails ASAP and Florentino leaves the club with his tail between his legs.

Alvaro Morata was taken on the pre season tour, and it was reported that Mourinho was impressed by him and that he might be promoted. It hasn't happened so it would seem Mourinho is holding out for a "big name", whether he gives Morata a chance remains to be seen.

Ha. IF Mourinho promotes someone it'll be a token one - just like Santon - in a relatively unimportant position, like full-back.

It makes me wonder what type of player signs for Real knowing they won't get a chance in the first team; Although, I suppose Joselu's happy with picking up 500,000 a year.

I think it is too soon to say what will become of Pedro Leon. It is not as if Di Maria is 'playing himself into the team'.

I don't think Mourinho is going to promote anyone tbh. If the club does not even trust one of our canteranos for the most irrelevant position of all (backup to Iker) then what does it say for the rest? I was honestly hoping that Florentino had changed and learned from his previous mistakes but so far the entire 'vuelve la ilusion' is bullshit.
