    Queiros officially sacked from Portugal manager

    Post by lampiao007 on Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:01 pm

    Queiros is no more, cease to be. After a delay of 2 years (yes, I count the day he was appointed Portugal manager a sad day), he was asked to go and destroy some other club / national team.

    Official news: http://www.record.xl.pt/Futebol/selecoes/interior.aspx?content_id=462112

    "The president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Gilberto Madail, confirmed in a press conference a few minutes ago, the dismissal of Carlos Queiroz of the functions of national selector. The coach, said the federal ruling has already been informed of the decision.

    Gilberto Madail, who merely read a statement that summarized the main points deliberated at the meeting this Thursday the body, also added that the PFF will begin to develop contacts in order to hire a new grader, which preferably has will guide the National Team in the next game of qualifying for the Euro'2010 in October, with Denmark at the Estádio do Dragão. Madaíl not reveal names, but Paulo Bento, Sporting's former coach, has been appointed as a possible successor to Carlos Queiroz.

    The main leader of the FPF, moreover, also announced the convening of a General Assembly that will set a date for elections in the governing bodies of the federation.

    Here is the statement in full, read by Gilberto Madaíl:

    "On July 14, 2010, the Directorate of the Portuguese Football Federation announced that the National Selection fulfill two goals behind the campaign of the World 2010. We do not say or said that it met the goals. He served two objectives.

    These two objectives were: firstly, the qualification for the finals of the competition (the sixth consecutive presence in major international competitions) and, secondly, clearance for the phase to eliminate.

    Said on July 14 and returned to say that the result falls short of what everyone aspired to but were met the minimum goals.

    As for the national selector

    Given the recent events, after reviewing the current situation concerning the national selector, the Director of the PFF decided unanimously:

    1 - Solving the contract for services concluded with the national selector, Carlos Queiroz, with immediate effect. This decision was communicated to Carlos Queiroz, who will be given at first hand, their pleas;

    2 - Start immediately, contacts and talks with a view to hiring a technician who performs the functions of national selector in time to prepare and lead the team in the forthcoming qualifying matches for the Euro'2012;

    More decided to ask the President of the General Assembly marking the FPF of a General Assembly election for the governing bodies.

    This position did not constitute a dismissal or a resignation which is ensured by the stability directive until the elections.

    It is important to note that the Director remains with full power and will continue working as before, with full authority to exercise their statutory duties. ""

    (the above as google translation, so if any oddities in the text, please feel free to ask)

    Obviously, there are other problems with the Portuguese team and the Portuguese FA, and I was hopping for the entire board to resign, but like a metastatic Cancer they resist. Hopefully they will do the right thing soon and leave

    In the meantime, Paulo Bento is rumoured as a name that may be in the front line for Queiros successor

    Will post names as they show up in the Portuguese press

    After 2 yers of Sheep, I can only lol! ay the time that took them to make a decision that every other Portuguese supporter knew was the right one
    Saying that, the entire process was ridiculous and downright idiotic, with the Portuguese FA looking for excuses to sack Queiros without paying him compensation as agreed on his contract.

    It will not be the end of the matter I tell you

    Happy for you, Lampiao. Queiros never really cut it, kind of like a portuguese version of Zac.

    Is this just a diversion tactic to deflect attention away from the fact that Nani is a drugs-cheat ?

    Nah, it's just a normal day in the Portuguese FA.
