It's Marca, not AS, that runs the Pichichi competition. And yes, it's their own stats that count, so Ronaldo's goal which has been given as a goal for Pepe by every other outlet other than Marca doesn't mean anything.

But now that he's easily won it, I wouldn't be surprised to see them say "in the end our judges decided that this goal shouldn't really count" blah blah blah Wink

Pep plays the kids and reserves:

Valdes
Bartra-Fontas-Mascherano-Abidal
Keita-Jonathan-Thiago
Afellay-Bojan-Jeffren

Based on the first 25 mins, it's a silly lineup. The front 6 all want to run forward and create, nobody wants to defend, so the back 4 already had a couple of scary moments. And there's a lot of passing and interplay, but no goalscorer Erm

Last week upon us and the bottom of the table is as follows:

12 Levante 45
13 Mallorca 44
14 R. Sociedad 44
15 Osasuna 44
16 Getafe 43
17 Deportivo 43
18 Zaragoza 42

Matches will all be played simultaneously on Saturday:

Osasuna - Villarreal PPV - Sab-22:00
R. Sociedad - Getafe Sexta/Aut - Sab-22:00
Levante - Zaragoza PPV - Sab-22:00
Mallorca - Atlético PPV - Sab-22:00
Deportivo - Valencia GolT/C+L - Sab-22:00
Racing - Athletic PPV - Sab-22:00

Each of the teams has their destiny in their own hands so to speak. If they win they are saved. I do think Zaragoza will lose. As kas was saying the other day they really have been sh!t. Actually for two years now. They were lucky to avoid the drop last year and have not done anything really to deserve to stay up.

On another note it looks like Iván de la Peña will be playing his last game at the weekend. The Espanyol doctors have been giving him a special program to try and get him fit for one last curtain call. It is expected that he will announce his retirement from football upon the conclusion of the season.

Deportivo have got quite lucky, last 2 games against Barça and Valencia who have nothing left to play for.

According to Marca, in 117 out of 243 possible permutations, Zaragoza go down. I do expect (and hope) it'll be them.

Interesting, with the season almost at it's conclusion, to take a look at this summer's coaching carousel. We know Quique Sanchez Flores is out at Atletico. It seems highly likely that Manzano will not continue at Sevilla. Increasingly it looks like Caparros is under fire from the fans and with elections coming in June he may not be back at Athletic Bilbao next season either. Oddly, the man who seems to be in for the most criticism, Unai Emery, is for the moment the most likely to be retained, by Valencia.

Here is a list of the teams that are almost certain to keep their current bosses:

Barcelona: Josep Guardiola
Real Madrid: Jose Mourinho
Villarreal: Juan Carlos Garrido
Espanyol: Mauricio Pochettino
Malaga: Manuel Pellegrini
Sporting: Manuel Preciado
Levante: Luis Garcia
Real Sociedad: Mikel Lasarte
Racing: Marcelino

My guess is that the continuity of the managers for Deportivo (Lotina), Getafe (Michel), Osasuna (Mendilibar), Zaragoza (Aguirre) will depend on whether or not they avoid relegation.

And then there is Mallorca who I assume would like to keep Michael Laudrup but of course he does not seem to stay in one place too long and he is being linked with loads of other jobs.

Of the vacancies here are some of the rumoured candidates:

Atletico: Luis Enrique (Barcelona B), Rafa Benitez (unemployed), Andre Villas-Boas (Porto)
Sevilla: Marcelo Bielsa (unemployed), Quique Sanchez Flores (Atletico), Joaquin Caparros (Athletic)
Athletic: Michael Laudrup (Mallorca), Luis Fernandez (Israel)
Valencia: Luis Garcia (Levante)

With Valencia it looks like even though Llorente doesn't seem to have a lot faith in Emery he does not see any significantly better options and will just try to maintain the status quo. As for Atletico, I don't really think Rafa Benitez is going to come back to Spain. Probably Luis Enrique is the most likely but he keeps denying the links. Bielsa seems to be the favorite for Sevilla but at the same time QSF and Caparros have expressed interest in going there. Athletic is a big question. Laudrup's name seems to be linked with the candidacy of Urrutia. Luis Fernandez is in charge of Israel but his name always seems to come up when the Athletic gig is vacant.

Who knows where that leaves Gregorio Manzano. Probably unemployed.

Great win for the kids though, to come from 0-1 down away from home, even in a meaningless match, will boost their confidence. Thiago, Sergi Roberto, Fontas (again) all impressed. Glad to see Afellay finally get his first goal.

It's not over. The odds for Depor were utterly ridiculous beforehand (just like it was for Zaragoga tonight! They're winning). Depor are currently to win @ 7/2. There's surely something in this.

Lot of fixed matches, the away team scores first so to get the home team odds up during the game, thus more money lumped on the homeside and so a bigger payday. Been taking advantage of it myself in Italy's Seria B these past couple of weeks.

Could be horribly wrong and Valencia seal the win though Smile

edit - Zaragoga 2-1, Depor look set to go down.

Massive chance for Depor spurned.

Depor relegated, that was dramatic stuff those last 10 mins. Gutted for Valeron namely. Class act.

Depor's relegation gives me a certain sense of schadenfreude. At least we'll see them on the way up. Smile
