Interesting statistic from that game: Granada had more penalties blown for them in that game than we have all season.

1st leg of the Final promotion playoff:

Granda 0-0 Elche

Apparently Granada had two shots off the post and the Elche goalkeeper saved two penalties! Shocked

The powers that be want Granada to go up. They also had two penalties blown for them against us.

But it sounds like Granada had a legal goal ruled out. At least according to the match reports...still 4 penalties in two matches is a bit suspicious. What is Villar's interest in Granada?

Yikes

What are the chances that Urrutia will win it? I'm interested in this not only because of Bielsa, but also because of him promising to bring Arteta from Everton.

lol LA LIGA is soon DEAD WOOD

1st and 2nd league in spain (40 clubs me thinks) and 21 of them close or already INSOLVENT

overall debts of 4 billion, me wonders NOT that they go for trochowski on free, they just cant afford class players

reald madrid and barcelona show clearly a wrong picture of the league

barca cant afford sanchez and cesc, before they must sell players

barca also dropped colour printers from there offices to save some money

News leaking: the first Clasico is indeed in the first week of December, but it may be adjusted due to Barça's involvement in the World Club Cup. So Barça have to play the Clasico during a trip to/from Japan, while Madrid possibly get extra rest. What fucking bad luck Erm

2nd Clasico will be weekend of April 22 in Camp Nou.

The first weekend will have Barça away to Malaga Crazy

Re: La Liga 2011/12 Season Thread

I was just curious to look at the squads for the teams that in theory will be fighting for places 2-6 in the table. Valencia just look so awful at the back. I know Llorente has come out and said their priority is to sign a centre back yet but still, it is pretty mediocre. Villarreal and Atletico have the advantage that they should be getting an injection of cash from the sales of top players (Cazorla and De Gea + Kun) to finance some spending the rest of the summer. Sevilla are ok in attack and defence but in the midfield they really lack quality. Medel is a solid player but they could really use someone alongside him that can actually boss the midfield. Athletic need some depth at fullback and it will be interesting to see how Bielsa's 4-3-3 works out in practice. They've signed Ander Herrera and unless they somehow swing a deal for Aduriz I doubt they will have any more signings. As for Malaga, apart from GK and centre back as Messiah and I have commented, their squad is shaping up to be really strong and even without any other signings I don't think you can say they are worse off than any of the other teams that will be their direct rivals. Still a long way to go in the summer transfer window but it's interesting, at least, to look at how things stand right now.

Villarreal did well at Trofeo Ceramica beating Lazio 3:1. Goals were scored by Rossi, Cani (funny looking one) and Wakaso, who show that has some quite powerful shot in his left foot. Cisse scored for Lazio, after Zapata didn't leave his position for an offiside trap. He will need more time to gel with teammates, but as a individual defender he is clearly class above Gonzalo and Musacchio, should be a big help for Garrido's team.

Villarreal started with: Diego Lopez, Mario, Zapata, Musacchio, Oriol; Senna, Bruno; Borja Valero, Cani; Marco Ruben, Rossi. With Cesar, Gonzalo, Wakaso, Marchena, Camuna and Nilmar (plus some anonymous youngsters) getting some playing time in 2nd half.

They have a nice little squad. Little being the key word. They need to replace Cazorla though.

Apparently now that Canales is going to Valencia, their top target is Angel Lafita from Zaragoza who is a very good player. Was one of the best players in la liga a few years back with Depor but has kind of been lost in the mire of sh!t at Zaragoza. There might even be an opportunity for Jordi Pablo who was a pretty hot prospect and he went on loan at Malaga and got a really serious knee injury. Then he was supposed to be on loan at Cartagena last year and had another bad injury. But he's been training with the first team this preseason. Still just 21.

They are also planning to sign a striker (being linked with Rodallega) and a left back (possibly Canella).

They promoted Hernan Perez to "A" team and if they don't sell Nilmar, him, Rossi, Marco Ruben, Perez plus optionally Camunas will be enough.

Press in England also links them with Jose Enrique (former Villarreal player) and Arteta. But Lafita would be nice as well.

I think they are going to sell Nilmar though.

Jose Enrique isn't interested in moving back to Spain I'm pretty sure. Not sure about Arteta.
