Good man, switch to Man City

You don't even have to change cities to keep being a winner

Have to say that I'm surprised how shit Man United have been so far. Van Gaal should be careful. The one major weakness of his is to believe that he basically can form a winning team with any players at his proposal, he tends to inflate his own importance or rather the importance of the manager.

England is a very different football culture compared to the Dutch, Spanish or German. He already made the mistake in his early Bayern days to try to force the team to play the system of his choice (4-4-2 diamond back then), instead of trying to find a system that suits his players best. Looks like he is doing the same mistake again. That's what surprises me though, as he showed during the WC that he has become more flexible in his choices and less dogmatic.

He has a big rebuilding job to do, it's not like other leagues where you can rebuild and continue rolling over bottom half teams. He'll need 2 or 3 years atleast.

More mugging of a desperate club. ManU need a significance rejuvenation of the board. That should be a priority.

They have now spent 60mil (120mil if you include Di Maria!) on 3 left-sided defensive players this summer, the most expensive of which LVG doesn't seem all too enamoured with at the mo.

There's no direction with their transfers e.g. with Tottenham this season the mantra was clear - improve the defence, which on paper the club has done.

van Gaal wanted to get Vermeer from ajax..I knew it..sadly for him he was too late and Vermeer made the tough choice of picking Feyenoord..

Thats like Sophies choice..especially if you came from ajax.

Man Utd have signed Falcao on loan http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29011493

The big question is, can he play in a back 3?

Instead of wasting so much money, why didn't they just pay the premium for Vidal - he could have solved half their problems... instead I now hear talk about de Jong. Man Utd have such a big hole in the middle, that even de Jong would be a big improvement.

@ Bluey

They have a management team in charge who thought hiring David Moyes would be a good idea.

This current spending spree has already gone down as the worst in football history and the good news is they have to double it again before they actually might start being successful again.

You would have thought LvG would put some sense into them.

Now I am hearing that Falcao deal is not even a loan with an option to buy (which may have made some sense), but its actually a 52m transfer (obligation to buy). Incredible. Over 200m spent!

Fellaini - 28m
Mata - 37m
Blind - 14m
Di Maria - 60m
Row row row your boat - 16m + Nani
Shaw - 30m
Herrera - 30m
Falcao 50 odd million, fuck knows how much they will actually pay for him

Approx 265m pounds, not Euros in 12 calendar months

It is hard to imagine how they could have spent this any worse

God only knows what the wage bill is now

280mil if you add in Zaha (who was bought by Ferguson in Jan '13, but Was only available for use when Moyes came in)

It almost seems like showboating.. Like "look at us, we can still afford big names, we can still attract big names, even without CL football".. Seemingly not realising that they'll continue to be without that if they don't stop buying the wrong players for so much money.

Presumably the intention is to drop Rooney or RVP now though.. Maybe Mata too? Can't fit all this lot in. Definitely can't fit all 3 strikers in. They must see that RVP is finished and hope that Rooney isn't..

---------------Falcao--------------

-Mata - - - Rooney - - - Di Maria-

------Carrick----Herrera-----

Shaw----Rowrow--Jones---Rafael

I guess?

LvG looks too stubborn to give up on his 3 man defense so easily. I think it will be more like:

Falcao/RvP - Rooney
Mata
Shaw - Blind - Di Maria - Valencia
Rojo - Jones - Smalling
De Gea

Does not look like a 200m+ improvement, I must say.

Mata will end up on the bench soon. He is really rather average.

He'll dump this silly formation when they lose a few more games, which of course they will very soon.

In a way we had to do it, leave the brit shite policy, cause there are non good british players anymore out there. But this is taking the piss, though us signing Falcao and Madrid Chichi, makes it sound like some parallel universe or something.

Dont forgot HSWHW needs a knee injury, so it seems we have find a replacement for him faster then Arsenal lol.

Still, not getting a quality CB is a failure in my eyes.

Must say I've been severely underwhelmed by Mata too but it could be down to playing with two strikers who don't move and midfielders that can't pass forward / quickly. I'm not sure he fits.. Maybe with Di Maria and Falcao he might do something. He can't have been that good for Chelsea, for that long, by fluke.

To call Mata average is beyond silly. I agree with Cooper that is more down to other things missing in the team. He was better than Silva at times when he played for Chelsea and delivered two very good seasons. He would be a real asset if they put him in the right system with quick and technical players around him.

Well United do have a crucial relegation scrap with QPR coming up so they need all the firepower they can get. Wenger should have just begged RVP to come back knowing Falcao is going there - why he's pissing about with Welbeck is beyond me.

It's quite delicious to see United and Arsenal seemingly not having a clue - that was us a few years ago and it hurt. Now we can sign Balotelli for 16 million.

Chins.
