Looks like Coentrao is soon to be done + dusted.

Good signing or pointless one? I don't rate Di Maria much so perhaps he or Marcelo will move further forward.

Any ideas as to what the plan is?

-------------------Casillas
Marcelo---Ramos--Pepe---Coentrao
-----------Xabi---------Sahin
------------------Ozil
--------Aguero-----Ronaldo
------------Higz/Benz

Bench: Adnan, Carvalho, Arbeloa, Albiol, Granero, Kaka, Di Maria, Khedira, Higs/Benz

Presumably Lass, Gago, Drenthe, Garay, Canales, Leon are all off.

Varane to be loaned?

Hell of a turn over again, but I think the above side is probably as close to (on paper) matching Barca.

Can anyone tell me what Madrid's finances are like? We hear quite a bit about Barca's and other clubs' various debts. What is Madrid's like?

I'd argue that although Xabi + Sahin aren't DM's they both have decent defensive attributes, superior to either Xavi or Iniesta. Ozil would definitely need to up the defensive aspect of his game.

That back four has pace to burn too. It'd probably as quick as any top defence around.

YOU FORGOT ALTINTOP!!!!! bounce

I don't think that we are going to sign Aguero to be honest. I think we are more likely to do a deal for Adebayor before it is all over. Sad

Supposedly Coentrao has refused to travel with Benfica to Switzerland for their first stage of preseason. Sounds like a complete c*nt. Should fit in well with the rest of the portuguese/brazilian clan.

If you believe the rumours Mourinho thinks Coentrao is better than Marcelo. Coentrao will displace on Marcelo as left back and Marcelo will deputise both at left back and left wing. That is the most recent story.

The other wrinkle that has come out in the last couple of days is that Pepe has still not signed a new contract. There was a verbal agreement last February or March but it was never finalised. Chelsea are in for Pepe offering him 6m euro per season. AVB likes him quite a lot and Chelsea are prepared to pay 20m euro.

Nobody knows about Varane really. There are some people claiming he is going to play in RM Castilla next year. Rolling Eyes

Pepe and Marcelo going out of the team would coincide with the conspiracy theorists that allege Florentino is still trying to get rid of all of the Ramon Calderon signings.

-------------------Casillas

Arbeloa-----S. Ramos-----Carvalho-----Coentrao

------------Alonso-----Khedira

--Ronaldo----------Ozil--------------Di Maria

------------------Higuain

I don't think Sahin will automatically start, I think Mourinho still likes Khedira in the XI.

As for the clubs finances, we still have a lot of debt but we also (according to the financial reports presented a couple of weeks ago) had record setting revenues this last year and finished the 2010/11 season with profits of around 30m euro.

I think I would throw up if we played that team. It smacks of the Galactico era. Way too offensive for my taste but thankfully I know Mourinho would never play such a team. We are LUCKY that Mourinho is at the club because imagine what players we would be getting if Mourinho wasn't there to stop Perez from his perverse fantasies. It would be a great benefit if he veto's Neymar/Aguero,etc.

I think you'll definitely sign Aguero. The Neymar talk is just Marca creating a big diversion and something to keep their readers excited. He'll probably stay in Brazil till next year. 45m is an insanely stupid amount for someone so unproven.

I don't think there's anything in the Pepe talk either. His agent is probably still talking to other clubs and then leaking the stories, so that they can pressure Madrid into offering him even more. Don't forget that the current offer on the table was itself made after media/fan/manager pressure. Initially the club had no interest in renewing him, because they offered him a derisory amount.

As for the signing of Coentrao, Doh

Really you think we'll sign Aguero? I think he will go to Juve personally. Bronzetti has said as much and he actually does seem to know the inside of the transfer market.

As for Coentrao - signing him is the epitome of just how stupid our transfer policy is and has been. This is Sneijder and VDV all over again.

There's no secret that Juve want him, but the player himself is adamant on Madrid. That usually makes the difference. Plus Juve have a backup option in Rossi (who would also be 15m euro cheaper), so it's not like they're desperate to sign him. On the other hand, Perez is desperate to make one massive "statement" signing for the summer.

Re. Marca's cover today about taking away the captaincy from Casillas and giving it to an outfield player instead...apparently Mourinho wants to do it because it would be easier for an outfield player to "talk" to the ref.

I don't know how true that is, but if so, it's a sad summary of everything that Jose Mourinho is about.

i would just like to thank pep and barca for returning midfield play to football, just a few seasons a go essiens' and gerrards' were what was considered proper midfielders, now most teams are trying to find their own version of xaviesta, even jose has said Sahin.

this team has really left a stamp on it's generation.

contrao = 25 million + drenthe + garay

if its true

omg german clubs should learn from benfica in terms of selling players, to offload 2 average players is also not bad for real madrid

Jose’s Real team:
..........Iker
Ramos Pepe Carvalho Coentrao
...Sahin Alonso Khedira
Ronaldo..............Marcelo
...........Abby

Perez’s Real Team:
............Iker
........Ramos..Carvalho
Marcelo.....Alonso....Coentrao
............Ozil
Ronaldo.Aguero.Benzema.Neymar

Somewhere inbetween would be about right.

i think the fullbacks a problem for madrid

ramos, marcelo and contrao cant defend, well that should be a problem but only in the later stages of the CL especailly against barca

for me lahm, rafinha a better package in terms of defending

Signing of Coentrao complete.

whats happening at real. real its seems as now Football Club Portugonale Madrid.

More Portuguese players will be in the starting XI Than spanish players, Coentrao when marcelo was one of your best players last season and angel was there for 4 million euros.

plans to take the captaincy away from iker and give it to ramos, what a day that would be.

Keep it up jose
