<Ale> To be THE player of a golden generation of Dutch, Italian, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil R's. Not to forget that England too were much more stronger. A traditionally equipped German base. So much for Xavi-Iniesta to excel in generation of 'DPL dominance', while Zidane was star of much stronger Italian/Spanish league. To believe certain planks would belive that it's all because of 1 or 2 goals he scored, not because he genuinely dominated his opponents (great opponents at that like Maldini, Ashley Cole, Effenberg, Roy Keane, Cocu, Luis Enrique, Davids, Mauro Silva.. I could go. A-Z of football greats), not Khedira, Lass, Fletcher, Carrick, Diaby, Alex Song, Motta.

I fail to see the point in arguing with someone who thinks Cabaye is on the same level as Xavi and Pirlo.

He said Zidane was THE golden player of his generation when it was clearly Ronaldo.

Zidane e la Juve

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHcUDLYY5Sk&feature=channel&list=UL

Although you could see match compilations in earlier link, where you see nuances on game-by-game basis of Zidane's midfield control with his position, touch, movement, pass and ball maneuvering.

In his 5 seasons at Juve. He had two great seasons (96-97 and 00-01) and very good seasons in between. Definitely not inconsistent Laugh And it's a league veteran like Roberto Mancini who really was the player that outshone Zidane in his early years.

If you really believe Zidane couldn't make through passes after all the video evidence, you must be really thick. And a troll.

Messi:all time great
dinho:see above
villa:spain's best ever striker
eto's: probably africa`s best ever player
C.Ronaldo: pisses on most players of the 90's.
Pirlo

I could go on so get the fuck outa here with that shit. we always look back on players with rose glasses, as we only remember the great moments. unlike players we see everyday and can pick out thier every flaw

A great example of us look back at players in rose tilted glasses, can be seen using Alves as am example. he is probably as good as any fullback in the last 20 years, and not just for what he did at barca but sevilla as well, but if one were to mention this they would get laughed at.

They would say X player is much better than alves defensively, ignoring that alves for one is a great defender and two is in all likelihood much better than player X offensively so it balances it self out.

football today is much more about the unit than the individual, Which is why it’s so difficult to compare players even across decades, the sport changes to rapidly.

Also for all this talk of great generation it was this holland team that made it to the CW final because of better TEAM play. its this spanish team that has won it all, when no one thought they could, thinking previous generations had better player. chelsea, inter, even barca put more emphasis on the team.

Finally when did zidane become the golden player of is generation. When did he become better than ronaldo, because i missed the memo.
if we were to break down football into little 10 year or 5 year segments for the 80, zidane would not be mention ar the best player of his generation not even my his biggest fan boys. late 90's to early 00's it was RONALDO. and after that dinho.early to mid 00's

So I guess that staying at the top for 10-12 years and still being at your best at 34 counts nothing.

Ronaldo can be excused, without those shattering injuries he could very well have been the best ever, but Ronaldinho has only to thank his own pansyness for the fact that it's only Barca fans that put him at the top of the list.

Being the best three-seasons wonder ever seen is a very remarkable feat on its own, but for me that's not even enough to be regarded as the best of his generation.

do you remember how well he played leading up to the world cup?

Its that kind of thing the really grinds my gears, he plays a few good games and all of a sudden he was class until he retired, he was good and but great for a good 2-3 years before the world cup.

As it relates to dinho who was better than him

03-07(that's right 07 were he carried the team on his back, only losing the title on head to head, think he scored 20 goals and had 22 assist that season).

A funny thing about Zidane and his 10 years of class and dinho and his 3 is this

Zidane

3 league titles
1 CL
1 WC
1 euro championship

Dinho
2 league titles
1 CL
1 WC
1 Copa

Dinho is another one who would contribute more to his teams success over the course of a season than zidane, who its seems would take a mini vacation during the league to save his legs I guess, so it lasted longer than most.

Xavi pirlo and seedorf at 32 is more class that zidane at the same age.

Zidane was magnificent, graceful, elegant, couldn't give a shit about his consistency, he delivered massive moments in massive games,

This is true, but when you are going to compare him to someone who shares a lot of those qualities including the massive games.

then what will be the deciding factor?. its consistency for me.

the game dinho was being played out of position in a magic square formation, playing behind the likes of kaka who was given the key to be the creative force of the team.

we can't look at this in bubbles.

Thats being said, zidane really rolled back the years in that game.

but dinho's poor form at the world cup was down to Parreira shit tactics.

The stupidity of playing kaka further forward than dinho
The playing of two completely immobile strikers who just stands their waiting for the ball to come to them.

though i didn't say dinho was better than him, just he was the best of his generation, (henry, kaka's, sheva's and the likes)

also the dinho fan could point to the 3-0 clasico, that dinho owned him,and actually won the title at the end

I was never that big a fan of Silva but he has really impressed me in his time in City and especially in his first season where he was playing for a team that was very defensive and he was basically doing it all on his own. Same reason I'm more impressed with Zidane for France than Zidane for Real Madrid. It was obvious watching France that they just relied on him to such a great extent and he thrived with that pressure. Given his past performances I have my doubts that Iniesta would be able to do the same but he certainly has improved his finishing although I don't think he will ever be as decisive as Zidane.
