    Scholes/Henry vs. Torres/Carroll

Post by fcb on Sat Jan 14, 2012 4:24 pm

Inspired by a comment on the BBC live text for today's games...during Jan. and Feb., who will score more goals - Scholes + Henry, or Torres + Carroll? All should be getting plenty of games considering their respective circumstances (Scholes the only midfielder in a team full of injuries, Henry leaving in March, Torres starting while Drogba is away, Carroll starting while Suarez is banned).

Tracker so far is 2 to the pensioners, 0 to the expensive flops.

Hopefully Carroll will be sold for a tenner to Newcastle or whoever before the transfer window shuts

Went for the olds. They might not score any more but a goal a piece is already more than Torres/Carroll look like scoring these days.

Pretty hard to score when you spend 70 odd minutes on the bench and then Webb allows opposition defenders to wrestle you to the ground every minute.

So if today was Henry's last game, can we call the winners.

    By my reckoning:
    Henry 3
    Scholes 1

    vs

    Carroll 2
    Torres 0

Henry has matched Torres' league tally for the season lol!

It's a bit out of date now, but if anyone wants a go at playing the 'who has scored in the league since Torres' game, then give this your best shot!

Yeah, and Scholes was very impressive for Man. Utd. today against Liverpool. Has to be said that Wenger and Ferguson did pretty well with these two gambles.

How is signing a player for free who has club legend status already a gamble?

Exactly, and you're spending big wages (even though they wouldn't earn the same as they did when they were on a full contract) on someone whose fitness and form may not be good enough for the Premier League. And you're foregoing the alternative of a 'proper' signing.

Adebayor, Ba, Henry, Scholes...don't really see what the gamble was. People make too much of wages. If a free signing turns out to be shit, no one's really that bothered. If they turn out to be quality, like Bellamy or Ba, then the manager is a genius.

Not a gamble IMO. £20 mil on Downing or 50 on Torres is more of a gamble.
