This might not be of interest to the casual follower of la liga but I was just looking at the table again and noticing Osasuna's good start to the season. It has been interesting to see how well Raul Garcia has done since returning to Pamplona. We often talk about the lack of EPL style box-to-box midfielders but Raul Garcia played like this in his first stint in Osasuna and is back to his best playing in that same style again this year. When he moved to Atletico they tried to play him a lot deeper in midfield but since his return to his hometown club he's been deployed just behind the centre forward again and he has responded with 4 goals and 5 assists in the first 15 matches. Not the most gifted player in the world but he has good physique and a knack for popping up in the box in good goal scoring positions. Certainly a good shout for the la liga XI in the first half of the season.

Amazing stuff from Betis - 2 goals in injury time to win 2-1 against Valencia (who have been really poor in the past few weeks).

If they can keep 'their' 3rd place standing and continue to qualify for the CL group stages over that time period they might just get things turned around...

Why there's still no news about Atletico terminating Manzano contract?

Well it's not officially done yet, but according to Marca that's only because the board haven't found a replacement yet.

Some of the names: Benitez, Scolari, Michel, Luis Enrique, and Diego Simeone.

All reasonable/decent managers, but I guarantee that all of them will fail too at Atletico, and last no more than 2 years. This club's problem is a stupid board who thinks they're bigger than they are, and a squad of mercenaries that thinks they're better than they are.

How has Simeone done as a manager? It seems all a little too cliche bringing the ex-idol. Seems that everyone wants to find their own 'Pep'.

Benitez would probably be the best choice but I don't think he is interested in coming back to Spain. There isn't a job that is 'high profile' enough (another one who thinks he is bigger than he is) for him.

That means he's certainly gone Laughing

I think Simeone did ok in Argentina - I remember reading some positive things, but in line with the volatile nature of that league, he also got sacked pretty soon once results went bad. Just saw Wikipedia and he's had 5 or 6 clubs already, hardly staying more than a year at each! But won two titles in Argentina too.

His fiery temperament *may* make him a good fit to get the Atletico players down to earth and fighting for the club...but it could also lead to some explosive interactions with the board/fans/media.

No idea how he is tactically.

Speaking of Atletico, AS ran a graphic outlining all of their (and the other big clubs in Spain) signings since the 2000-01 season. They've made a total of 108 signings in that period for a total of 423m euro. No one signing has been blatantly awful. The players they have spent big on have generally turned out well. But they have made an awful lot of mid-range signings that have been sh!t. 9m for Maniche, 6m for Cleber Santana, 9m for Veljko Paunovic, 3m for Kiki Musampa....it adds up!

http://www.as.com/misc/pdf/fichajes_atletico.pdf

P.S. Absolutely disgusting to see our line...61 signings for 1b euro. Doh

worms.

Really want Valencia to win because I want Athletico Bilboa to get 4th spot,I think Malaga are favorites for it with Bilboa and Sevilla close behind.

It would be good for La Liga in general if Atleti get a CL place.

I fear for example, Villarreal could lose the likes of Rossi and Nilmar soon enough

What is it 6 Pk's for Ronaldo.
higs has more goals than Benz, he needs to find himself a club where he is the star striker.
8 goals for cesc very good, what a great central midfielder
What does Soldado have to do to get a chance DB

excepted more from malaga by this point of the season, but thier central defence is total shit and their forwards are good, but nothing more, toulalan has disappointed as well, more needs to be spent this January.

If I didn't look at the table and someone told be Osasuna were 5th, I would tell them they are lying.

VV, With the .50, but still no love, went a few games without conceding, it was down to the possession and defence, Neuer does it and he was making a world class save every 10 mintues.

Benzema has more key passes (18 to 11), more assists (4 to 0), more through balls (0.6 per game to 0.1 per game) than Higuain. Higuain finds himself offside twice more than Benzema. But as a striker, your job is to score goals. So Benzema might be a more complete player, Higuain is the better striker. Both equally important though.

Benz is a better fit to the way Madrid are trying to play for sure, not trying to hate, but a striker the class of higs, shouldn't be playing 2nd to anyone.
