Malaga 0-0 Atletico

First match in charge for Simeone. Didn't get a chance to watch it but finally some common sense in the XI. Rather than trying to accommodate 2 forwards el Cholo goes with 4-2-3-1 with Diego just behind Falcao and Salvio and Juanfran on the wings. Maybe it's a little harsh on Adrian who has been in good form but it is a waste to put someone like Diego out wide as Manzano did a number of times to make the 4-4-2 work. Interesting that Mario Suarez drops to the bench, he has been one of Atleticos best players this season. Will be interesting to see if he is allowed to bring any new players in the January window beyond a replacement for Reyes.

Villarreal 2-0 Valencia Ale

Not that I want to see Valencia lose, but Villarreal must stay in the division. Surprising to see many empty seats in their stadium though.

Frenetic start. Alvarez f*cks up and Messi plays it with his hand then a sh!t backpass from Amat I think that is intercepted by Alexis. Alvarez does well to force him wide....

Now Cesc makes it 0-1 with a header.

Why do you think Messi has been so poor away from home this season? At least he has been compared to his usual standards.

Still not convinced with the 3 - 4 - 3 either,we don't seem to be able to press as good as we do when playing a 4 - 3 - 3.Especially when we play both Cesc and Iniesta at the same time because they both play in central positions,Alves is too deep to press like Pedro or Villa do because they play more as wingers.Messi doesn't press at all really,so you just have Alexis on his own doing all the work a lot of the time.

This game is a dogfight. Espanyol crowding the ball and putting lots of pressure, preventing our midfield from establishing their rhythm in the game. Lots of pressure on our defense, but so far they are holding up.

But the usual performance from home we've seen in most games this season - lacking that little bit of smoothness that the team seems to find at home.

Both teams making poor decisions in the penalty box, and lacking precision with their final pass/shot.

Really need a 2nd goal to feel comfortable. Pedro should come on for Alexis soon, who hasn't had a good day so far. Perhaps try switching him to the right and Cesc to the left.

All of a sudden Barca are showing the urgency they should have had from the first minute. If(a big if of course) they dont win the league its thier own fault for showing a lack of respect to the smaller teams. Its easy for them to beat Real Madrid but motivation for The Classico is not a problem but obviously against everyone else.

The worst game of the season so far for me. Not that we played badly, but they didn't even tried to play and i couldn't get it why for the whole 90 minutes.
We didn't deserved to win this game, and i would dare to say, we should have lost how pathetic we were.
The only bright light was Iniesta and to some point Puyol.

I haven't really enjoyed watching Barca this season,I don't know why the football just isn't the same.

Maybe I am just being spoilt because of how they have played the previous 3 seasons.

Just seen a stat that in the last 5 seasons Espanyol has taken more points (14) from Barcelona than any other team in Primera. Serves that f*cko Casanovas from SPORT right for saying in his editorial the other day that the rivalry was dead and it only mattered to Espanyol.

Probably should have been a penalty on Raul Rodriguez in the last minute. I guess the VILLARATO is over!!!! cheers

Well, you could see it coming. Every missed chance or wrong decision made by our attackers, increased the likelihood of Espanyol equalising.

It's scary just how impotent this team has become in away games. Pretty much any 'small' team just has to try hard at their own ground, and they'll get something off Barça. The cliche is quite true - leagues are won in these grounds, not 1 or 2 big matches.

We'll probably win the Copa knockout (esp. since it's over 2 legs) but that will only help Madrid win the league even more comfortably, since they won't have fixture congestion.

The only positive is that our players, coach and surprisingly, even the president, were diplomatic about the ref. Bit better than Madrid in that respect, who would have ignored their shitness in the other 89 minutes and screamed "conspiracy por que por que por que". Obviously the Barcelona media weren't any different than the Madrid media though.

Well yeah we need something to cheer us up Sad

But although i mentioned Madrid, it's a more general point as well - can you imagine the furore if this incident was the other way around and some small team got screwed by the ref not giving a blatant penalty against Barca?
