Cesc has definitely proven how great of a central midfielder he is not, but how much of a great AM he is

fcb wrote:So, 2 slaps in the face from Pep to all of us and the media re. his transfers - people (mostly non-Barça fans) criticised the Mascherano signing, but he's turned into a brilliant and very important player for the club.

And Cesc has become our new number 9. 2nd top scorer after Messi this season...absolutely beautiful chip for the 2nd goal last night. Even Barça fans (like me) who thought we shouldn't pay the money for him, can't say anything now. Well worth it.

In both cases, Pep has answered the "but how will they play with Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets there" question by changing their positions and changing the team dynamics.

Still, we always have Hleb and Chygrinskiy to fight back with (the other flops like Caceres, Keirrison, and Henrique were signings of the club. ie. Txiki).

To be fair though it did look initially like Mascherano was going to be on the bench. It wasn't until he needed an emergency solution that he stuck him in the back line. It does however look like he had the '9' role for Cesc along.

That was my point all along though. He always got criticised when he played for Spain for not being Xavi. He can't do that for Spain, but no one can. At the same time though, he offers something that few Spanish players do.

Xavi's got at least another 2 seasons...at the rate Thiago's going, he'll be experienced enough.

need some help on creating my fm12 team, i want my team to play like Barca and need help with the defence.

do Barca look to play offside?

they use high line?

which roles describe CB roles

With a defend duty, the Central Defender will stay in line with his defensive partner and look to break up attacks, mark opposing forwards and prevent the ball from getting into the box.

With a stopper duty, the Central Defender will push ahead of the defensive line and close down players before they get to the area.

With a cover duty, the Central Defender will drop a little deeper and sweep up through balls behind the defensive line.

cheers

I do have an FM12 game with Barça going. My defensive line is set to Push Up, Closing Down is set to "Press More", and Play Offside is Yes. And both CBs are set to normal "Defend" duty, but what you can also do is have one person in Defend duty and the other in Stopper duty.

players are finding it difficult to get up for the "smaller" games, the best chance of them winning anything, will come from the CL and the copa which k.o component will give them more drive.

Nice little record I found for Puyol on the web.

Puyol has an Unbeaten run in Barcelona's official games in all competitions: from 3-1 loss to Inter in CL semis 2009-2010 to today.

Now the record is:

49 games
3928 minutes
631 days

http://goallegacy.forumotion.com/t10658p54-puyol-doesn-t-like-losing

Can anybody find a better record in recent history?

The next closest I could find was:

Gilberto Silva 21.10.2003-15.5.2005
43 games
3276 minutes
572 days

Maxwell is gone. 4m, not bad, more than I expected. And finally the last of the Raiola players is out of the club.

Talks ongoing with Jordi Alba on whether to sign him now or in the summer (on a free).

don't want alba, Montoya and Alves and the right, abidal and Adrian on the left, and when abidal leaves we get someone with similar characteristics, not someone like alba

Alba would mean you can't get Bale as well? After reflecting, I've decided Bale for Barcelona would be awesome. a) because he would no longer play for Tottenham and b) is there a player in the world who would be better at motoring onto one of those Xavi diagonal through balls and playing a first time ball across? Barcelona could do with a bit of directness Smile

Pleased to read these comments from Pep when asked about the ref's performance in the Espanyol game.

"¿Qué gano quejándome de los árbitros? No encuentro beneficio para dar una opinión después del partido. Ellos tomas decisiones como lo hacemos nostros y se equivocan como nosotros. En Cornellá no ganamos porque no hicimos las cosas bien"

Two different Pep rumours today: Marca say he is planning to take a sabbatical next season and then take over in Qatar. AS say he will stay provided we sign Hulk scratch (and presumably not Neymar)

Barca B striker Soriano is off to Austria on a 3.5 year deal with Salzburg, barca b struggled to score goals when he was alway injured and will do the same now, some lets hope they stay up, ignoring that fact that the coach is pure shit
