Ronaldo, Coentrão, and Pepe have all been excellent for Portugal. Xabi has done well for Spain (despite my questioning of VDB's tactics), and Khedira has been unexpectedly good for such a facking runner. Özil has been good as well.

Benzema Doh

Ale

I am a little concerned about Benzema. He seems to be reverting back into the Benzema of 2010-11. Benzema the Cat, shall we see say. Hopefully he will snap out of it when he comes back to Madrid.

I wouldn't get that concerned about it. France are shit.

Except that he was already showing signs of it towards the end of the season. Hopefully he just needs a break from football. Ale

Here is an update on the rumours linking our castoffs with other clubs:

*Ricardo Carvalho - Milan, Tottenham, Porto

*Hamit Altintop - Galatasaray, Milan, Rubin Kazan

*Lass Diarra - Spartak Moscow

*Nuri Sahin - Tottenham

*Fernando Gago - Inter, Man Utd Laughing

*Kaka - Milan, PSG, Sao Paulo

No this kid can play. Him and Alex Fernandez are probably the best kids we have at the moment. He went along to do the preseason with the first team the first season Jose was here. He was a couple of minutes late for the bus going from the hotel to the stadium in Los Angeles and Jose has never forgiven him. But come on the kid was 18 everyone makes a mistake. He will probably go to Valencia and be awesome in a couple of years time. But if it were me I would promote him to the first team to back up Arbeloa. Fast as hell. Not a tricky dribbler but combines well in attack. Very solid defensively, surprisingly good in the air for a shorter player. Better than Montoya. Wink

Are you really going to sign Modric? A midfield duo of Xabi Alonso-Modric will be just immense with the ball Sad

Maureen will still have Khedira behind, negating capabilities of one of the two.

It does offer more variations to Maureen who hasn't been courageous with Sahin..

I share your fear although for different reasons.

This would change the team completely if it became true. Hopefully Spurs will put too high a price on him and that will scare us away.

I think it will just give Jose different combinations. I think his default in big games/away games will probably still be Alonso-Khedira-Ozil. But Ozil played a lot of minutes last year as did Alonso. So sometimes it could be Khedira-Modric-Ozil. Sometimes it could be Alonso-Khedira-Modric (with Modric playing higher up the pitch). And hopefully we would get to see Alonso-Modric-Ozil sometimes too.

I guess he would be a Kaka replacement, but even a traffic cone would do if that's what you need, and it wouldn't cost 25 million bounce

It's really weird how just 48 hrs after Jaime and I were mooting a Modric for Sahin + £25mil deal, rumours have exploded everywhere. there's a spy on the EMB Suspect

Los Blancos generally don't want to wait for non-Spanish players to develop; and why should you with your resources. Modric will be 27 in September, Sahin is the same age age that we bought Modric at. Perfect deal IMO Ale

worms? Laughing

Los Blancos generally don't want to wait for any player to develop and least of all Jose. I think it is a win-win situation unless you are poor Super who will hate to see a ball playing midfielder join the ranks.

Coentrao is much more consistent for Portugal than he is for us. Very impressive from him this tournament. He has been one of the best players from left back.

Well I think it is difficult because last season Jose kept switching between Marcelo and Coentrao. Hard to be consistent when you play one game then sit out the next. I would much prefer Jose make Coentrao the full time left back and if Marcelo does not like being the backup then he can f*ck off.

With Di Maria always picking up injuries, José could always play Coentrao as a winger when needed.

This whole "Progress" thing is all tongue in cheek, but you and Kas seem to take it all a bit too serious Laughing (Although some would define coming up through the youth ranks, to win trophies and captain club and country as "progress" Wink)

Anyways, congrats Jaime! Very Happy <Ale>
