Why the fuck were you looking at Carlton Cole's set?

Strange.

By the way this is no longer the Messi is overrated thread,it is the Messi thread.I still think he is a little overrated but I realized it's disrespectful to keep slagging him off after all he has done for us.

68 and counting!

Next season he could get even more,at the start of this season he was missing a lot of chances and we were getting a lot of stonewall penalties getting turned down in La Liga.I wouldn't be surprised to see him score 90 next season.

For such an amazing player, it's amazing how bad he sucks at penalties. Cesc would be a much better option ok

With 72 goals in all competitions he surpasses the global record of scoring in a single season in a first division football club held by Archibald Stark with 70. Stark set his record when the USA was a “soccer” powerhouse. He played for an American club called Bethlehem Steel and set the record in 1925 and it lasted 87 years.

He also broke the european record for most goals in a league season with 50 goals, the holder was Dudu Georgescu with 47 goals for Dinamo Bucharest in 1976-77

He has surpassed Pele but isn't even close to Chitalu so he can go f*ck himself (while Giggs is f*cking his wife!)

Just read that, 107 goals in absolutely mental. Classed as "Unofficial" though.

Zico's record will be beaten if Messi scores 2 more goals.

If we're not bothered about the level, this year in my 5-a-side league I have averaged at least 3-4 goals/game, so I must be close to 150-200 goals in one calendar year.

No offence, but what do any of you know of the level of Zambian football at the time? Kalusha Bwalya is considered one of Africa's greatest ever players and to most Europeans the only Zambian great. Why? Because he played in Europe, perhaps? Just because Chitalu never played in Europe doesn't mean he wasn't good enough.

Zambians and Africans are far more knowledgeable about African football and Zambian in particular than Europeans. They consider Chitalu to be the greatest Zambian player, because they actually know enough to compare the two according to the evidence. I very much doubt any on here knew anything about Chitalu until his name surfaced regarding Messi's 'record'.

I interviewed Bwalya and he cites Chitalu as an inspiration to him. The lack of respect for footballers in so-called lesser leagues is insulting. Chitalu is entitled to respect for his achievements.

I didn't mention the level in your 5-a-side league. Perhaps your record should be acknowledged above Messi and Muller's as well, or does it only apply to Chitalu's achievements?
