Ronaldo dives for a free-kick and then scores courtesy of a big deflection. Such a loathsome player.

La Liga refs Doh

Granero gets away with that foul without a yellow, Ramos gets a dubious yellow.

That was a fucking phenomenal game of football. Two teams going at it at a very high pace...about as end-to-end as a La Liga game will get. 100% intensity for the full 90 mins. Even in injury time, both teams were pushing and closing down like it was the 1st minute.

It was a superb performance from Barça. Athletic's approach to build from the back meant that Barça's players had to constantly put pressure right from the front, and they did it with a viciousness and aggression that I haven't seen since the first couple of seasons under Guardiola.

Pep got his selection spot on too, albeit helped by the need to rest Xavi/Puyol/Cesc due to their injury troubles. Thiago, Iniesta, Messi, Tello, Alexis, Adriano, Alves meant the team was full of pace, tireless running on and off the ball, directness, 1-on-1 dribbling ability, and fantastic individual skill. Exactly the combination of elements required to press hard without the ball, and then break Athletic's press and create space when you do have the ball.

It's scary to think that we'll have to play Athletic again in the Cup final, this time at a neutral venue. Hopefully they're fatigued by then since it'll be their last game of a very long season.

Top half of the table for la Segunda:

1 Deportivo 66
2 Celta 62
3 Valladolid 58
4 Córdoba 53
5 Almería 52
6 Hércules 51
7 Alcorcón 50
8 Elche 47
9 Numancia 46
10 Las Palmas 44

Good to see Depor and Celta in the places for automatic promotion. I'd go for Valladolid or Alcorcon to win the playoff.

It's like I was saying in another thread. La liga itself is not overly competitive but the EL calibre teams match up well against anyone.
