    The Derby !

    Post by Sgoater1 on Fri 27 Apr 2012 - 1:01

Well i might not get to post again before the derby cos im away this weekend and then Monday im going into the city centre early doors to get on it, i need to be fairly well oiled for this one cos im shitting it already.

Its a massive game, the biggest in Prem history imo. Everyone thought it was over at 8 points but we've fought back well (and thanks to Wigan and Everton) and now the title race is alive. We must win there is no doubt about it but i believe in this team. We've had a great season and been incredible at home. I hate the scum so much and i love the derby every time it come around but this one is on another level. So many years of pain and now we are with a chance of doing something i never though possible as a kid growing up..winning the league. I always got told when i was young, 'it doesnt matter what you do, you'll never be as good as U*d' and part of me believed them but here we are, we have been better than them this season, but we need to show it by winning the league.

I just have a feeling Tevez is going to have a say in this game, plus i think Aguero will cause them problems. I think if we attack them...and we will, then we will cause them lots of probelems. I just hope we find our tempo early and if we could bag in the first 15 mins i think we will be hard to stop.

The atmosphere is going to be insane, i cant wait for it, its going to be bouncing and get read for the poznan when their team is read out.

I hope you all enjoy it as neutrals, it should be a cracker but as long as we win thats the main thing.

Oh yeah and the Goat is coming Smile cheers hopefully thats a good omen.

Yeah, this is really the biggest derby in recent times. A title decider as well.

When was the last time a Liverpool V Man United game decided the title between the two?

I think Goater is half right, certainly biggest derby,

but there were some huge title deciders in recent years:

Chelsea winning the title at Old Trafford, Arsenal doing the same a few years earlier.

This is certainly the biggest local derby game in terms of the prize on offer since the inception of the Premier League

The North London, Merseyside, Tyne and Wear, Black Country, Brummie, Lancashire derbies stopped being between two title chasing sides a long time ago

He didn't say biggest derby,he said biggest game.I consider Liverpool vs Everton(much bigger club than City) to be the more historic derby anyway.

Liverpool and Man Scum are by far the 2 biggest clubs in England, there has been several important games in the DPL between us and Man Scum, they were naturally bigger games than Man United vs Man City.

There's been several bigger games between Man Scum and Arsenal(3rd biggest club),I would rank these higher as well.

It's essentially a title deciding match, and you generally only get one of them a season at best. Add in the local rivalry and it's certainly got a case to being one of the biggest games in PL history.

Can't remember any Liverpool-Man Utd games that had so much riding on them. Liverpool have been pretty insignificant when it comes to the title race for much of the PL history.

I think we also have to consider the game's wider implications. City are no longer the other team of Manchester that the Gallaghers support: they are genuine shit disturbers with money. It has taken four years, but if they win on Monday it will be a huge political statement as well. So goater's statement is not completely off.

Liverpool v Everton bigger than city v utd are you joking, some of their fans even sit together in the stands, historically you might look to the 80s for them but our derby is very historical you only have to look back to the 60s and 70s.

The thing that makes this do big is the fact it's a derby and it's significant in how utd dominated the last 20 years but we have massive potential to possibly dominate in the future.

Also how are Everton much bigger than us ?

    Laugh

General shit disturbers with money. Might just be the best definition of City that I have ever heard Laughing

I agree. City's lack of historical success means absolutely nothing these days. They are a powerhouse here to stay (assuming the Arabs aren't going to run out of money anytime soon) - a scan of the team sheet with Tevez and Aguero likely to partner each other upfront confirms this.

The main problem with Goater's statement is that United and City as teams just aren't that great so it is hard to get too excited about the match as a neutral (well I say neutral, but will be praying for City to win). The Arsenal - United games when you had two great teams battling it out were much more interesting.

But who cares, hope you thrash them Goat

Which records just out of interest ?

(If they are just Man City related internal records I don't particularly care Wink )

I don't think it is in any way controversial to call this United side one of their worst in the past 20 years.

Haha no not just city ones, ones like most consecutive wins at home in the prem, our goal scoring ones, best gd ever after 35 games, plus our points total will be one of the highest in prem history. Plus you don't win away at utd 6-1 unless your a very good side. Anyway it's your opinion mate <Ale>

Interesting stat: Kenny Dalglish has won more major trophies than City and Chelsea combined Shocked

This game promises to be quite spicy though; if Tevez scores the winner I think it will make up for all the times United got jammy goals or all the times Own goals played a blinder for them.

To be Frank Lampard though, can only see United winning the title - even if they lose to City, which I don't think they will, they have a guaranteed 6 points from Swansea and Sunderland whereas City have to play newcastle away and potentially face a QPR side who will ruddy need the 3 points for survival.

Surely they can't have Gary Neville commentating though, I dread to think what noises he'll make.
