In Spain there is a difference though because by law every player has to have a release clause so the clubs always hike it to an absurd number. Although the release clauses didn't always used to be so high but they have always been beyond approach.

Bleacherreport is nearly as bad as Goal.com in terms of journalism. Most of the articles are written by Uni students looking to go into the field. Some of the names on that list are laughable.

let`s see how good the teams will be, who play in europe next season

SO FAR

1. Bayern (götze, new coach) stronger
2. BVB (Lewa will stay, better squad, quality götze replacement is needed, more confidence and experience) stronger
3. Schalke (jupps co trainer will join them cheers, santana, won`t lose key player) stronger
4. leverkusen (carvajal is gone, schürrle on his way out, but only when they find a quality replacement, there co trainer will leave) weaker
5. stuttgart (wow great stuff what they are doing, got leitner from BVB, and some other quality players, will have a far better team stronger
6. freiburg (losing 5 key players) shit
7. frankfurt (so far they kept there team together same

I don't see how you can already claim Dortmund is stronger since they haven't replaced Gotze and if they replace him with Erikson they will be weaker. Also it isn't clear that Lewa will stay either and if he leaves that would mean the loss of two key players and it is unlikely that they will replace Lewa with similar quality.

To be continued...

Lewa's announced that he's leaving. It's just that the Dortmund hierarchy have said they are not selling to Bayern, which is obviously smart considering what's already happened. Dortmund can't afford not to sell him - it'll be stupid to let him walk for free next summer. It's gonna be hard for Dortmund to strengthen, especially as they can't offer the wages that others can.

Thats why they wont sell him, they would get 20 million for him, thats not that much, when you don`t reach the later stages of the cl or won`t fight for die league title, and both cases would be very likely would they sell him

like i said, they will have a better squad, more options, more experience, and they have 100 million to spend, of course, here are many IFS, because so far they havent signed anyone

Leverkusen are in the same boat as Dortmund, losing Carvajal & Schuerrle, and have not been able to invest in replacements YET... but you have them as 'weaker', while Dortmund you have as 'stronger'... clearly both teams will strengthen this summer, so it is premature to say whether Dortmund will indeed be stronger & Leverkusen weaker.

you lost lewandowski (for the unknown the co-trainer), only god knows how this will effect the team, changing the coaching stuff every year is not very helpful, thats the main reason why i think they could be weaker

and losing 1 1/2 top performers isn`t helpful neither

dortmund and klopp have a gameplan, and they showed that they are competetive, even without götze

You have a point... Lewandowski provided the passion to Hyypia's steel, making for a nice balance.

On the other hand, however, this will mean undisputed authority for Hypia, who has said that the lack of a clear leader has caused problems in the past... moreover, he will only grow more into the team, and, as a young coach, now has a good season full of worthy experience under his belt, both domestic & European.

Don't be too sure about that. I'm sure he won't mind going to another top club if they come calling with enough money. And more important is that Dortmund want to make money off of Lewa without selling him to Bayern. That puts them in a hard position. If they sell to Bayern they have proven that Bayern are indeed the powerhouse and that Germany is still Bayern+the rest in terms of power. If they remain stubborn and let him go on a free next season they will have lost the potential profits which could strengthen them.

The only way Dortmund can come out stronger out of this summer is if they manage to sell Lewa to a non-Bayern club while replacing him with someone of close to or similar quality. I have a hard time seeing Dortmund being able to replace 2 star players in the same year without it meaning serious regression although not permanent regression. Imo they should sell Lewa to the highest non-Bayern club and buy somebody like Jackson Martinez/Higuain and get somebody like Klose on the cheap as back up or a challenge. Replacing Gotze might be harder but they got more money from the transfer so they should aim high. But at times like this you also have to make marquee transfers to signify intent of becoming a big club. Perception matters and Dortmund needs to maintain their standing as they slowly become a financial power.

Perhaps but I have learned not to take players too seriously when they "only" have their hearts set on one club. Players like Lewa tend to be pragmatic enough when time is running out and their favourite deal isn't going to happen. It is easy to set on one club at the beginning of the transfer window. Not to mention that Dortmund really don't want to sell to Bayern. Unless Bayern offer too big an amount or if Lewa is willing to sit out a year I don't see it happening.

Only saw him at the U21s, but he was impressive there... really solid performances, the false penalty called against him in the final notwithstanding.

Very pleased with this signing

Meh, he's only 20 right? plenty of time to learn & grow... He is very inconsistent, selfish, and generally overrated at the moment though... very similar to Schuerrle, actually, so whatever, we'll take the 8 or 9 million Euro difference and hopefully buy a quality attacking midfielder & a centreback to cover for Wollscheid & Toprak.
