Which current player will be a great coach in the future?

Post by bluenine on Tue Apr 30, 2013 10:56 am

With some players, you can tell - they have coaching talent. Its usually the players who base their game on a tactical understanding of the game, often performing better than their talent and are well respected by peers.

I can think of 3 top players who I believe could make a good coach if they tried:

Cambiasso
Seedorf
Xabi Alonso
Lampard
van Bommel
Carragher

Which one of these do you think will make the best coach? And who are the other players who fall under this category (who will probably make a great coach, not the ones who want to become a coach)?

Carragher seems to be spoken about in high regard when it comes to management. Hard to imagine obviously as he wasn't exactly pleasing on the eye.

IMO Cambiasso is a great future coach in the making. Every Inter coach including Mourinho hold him in high regard as a tactician. Something tells me Van Bommel can also be a good coach. Lampard and Alonso with their intelligence could also do well as a coach.

Of course, not all of these will even try to become one. I think Cambiasso will. I have also heard Seedorf and Carragher are interested in that future.

Carragher definitely. In fact I think it's only a matter of time before he becomes a manager.

Xavi as well. Busquets who is both intelligent and supposedly one of the leaders of our dressing room despite his tender age.

Don't know much about Cambiasso, just because somebody is intelligent on the pitch doesn't necessarily mean they will be a good coach. Though the way Cambiasso plays indicates high intelligence.

Busquets if he takes it up will be a great coach, in a capello mold in the sense that he will be more of a tactician than a idealist like pep or xavi when he becomes one.

Nani?

I was serious about Vincent Kompany. He's clearly ambitious, he doesn't appear on MOTD 2 for the money. He's just bought his own football team in Belgium as well as funding myriad projects in Africa. He's clearly very bright and apparently is obsessed with the moneyball/stats side of the game. High enough profile that you could see him getting offered an EPL job right out of retirement, but smart enough to probably cut his teeth in Belgium somewhere like Anderlecht.
