*Almeria have signed Óscar Ustari. He was in Getafe for a long time 3 or 4 years I think. Went back home to Boca Juniors and now has returned to Spain.

*Atletico being linked with Kvist. Now that Pulido has signed for RM Castilla, they only have three centre backs in the squad: Miranda, Godin, and Demichelis. Simeone has implied that the squad is not final yet.

*Rayo have signed Saúl on loan from Atletico on a one year deal. Rayo are also negotiating with Antonio Adan.

*Looks like Sevilla are going to sign Kevin Gameiro as the replacement for Negredo. Different kind of striker I think. Doesn't have the physical qualities as Negredo but he scored quite a lot of goals a few years ago in France. Never really was first choice at PSG I don't think.

*Seemed like Jonathan Dos Santos was on his way to la Real for sure but there have been no developments and now he is being linked with Villareal. Not sure if it is just because the brother is there or if there is truth to it. Villarreal also rumoured to be after Ochoa the mexican goalkeeper.

*Athletic Bilbao are still interesting in signing Mikel Rico from Granada but no offers as yet. Would be quite a nice midfield if Valverde was able to choose from Mikel Rico, Beñat, Iturraspe, and Ander Herrera.

*Didac Vila looked destined for Betis but now Valencia are showing interest because it seems Aly Cissokho could be leaving (England is the rumoured destination).

*Valencia have said that if a deal for Soldado is not done before 3 Aug then the striker is not leaving. Braulio Vazquez said that they will be signing two strikers if Soldado leaves. Names being mentioned: Gameiro, Helder Postiga, Ruben Rochina.

*Vazquez also mentioned that there is an official bid for Rami from an EPL club. Negotiations are ongoing.

*Can't remember if this one has been mentioned but Malaga are apparently very interested in taking Afellay on loan. Of course Barcelona would prefer to sell him but unless they give him away (a la David Villa) then I don't think Malaga will be able to afford a full on sale. Don't know how he did in Schalke last year.

*Apparently the official bid that was accepted for Higuain was 37m euro. A lot more than I was anticipating at the beginning of the summer when he was being linked with Arsenal.

Apparently Spurs very close to signing Soldado. If we pull it off I'll be thrilled, we need a natural finisher who is also physical enough, he looks taylor made to meet that need.

Re: Mercado de verano: La liga transfers - Summer 2013

Post by Jaime on Tue Jul 23, 2013 2:44 pm

*Marca claiming that Bale has turned in a transfer request. I think they just didn't want to put Tata on the front page. Biggrin

*Atletico have sold Sergio Asenjo to Villarreal who were in pretty desperate need of a goalkeeper. 4m is the transfer fee. Asenjo was a big deal 4-5 years ago coming out of Valladolid. Had a bad knee injury and then De Gea and later Courtois passed him by as the #1 for Atletico. Will be interesting to see if he can recapture his old form.

*Didac Vila has move to Betis on a one year loan. This is now official.

*Sevilla have signed Kevin Gameiro from PSG for 10m euro. This is also official.

*Denis Cheryshev claiming there an offer for him from Malaga. He can't return to play for Castilla according to his contract. Ancelotti has been trying him as left back but I think ultimately the player wants to go.

*AS claiming that negotiations between Spurs and Valencia have broken down. Tottenham offering somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25m euro but Valencia want 30m. Yikes

*Julio Baptista could be the next one to leave Malaga. Malaga are basically forcing him to take a major or pay cut or leave. Cruzeiro is interested in taking the player back to Brasil. I guess we'll see how it plays out but I'm pretty sure he will not play for Malaga next season.

*Apparently Mikel Rico is moving closer to signing with Athletic. Athletic currently offering 2m whilst Granada are asking for 4m. Seems like a deal is going to get done.

*Unai Emery wants to sign Barragan for Sevilla. Of course he signed him for Valencia. Never been that impressed with Barragan but Coke has not really done the business at right back for Sevilla.

*Sevilla on the verge of selling Botia to Elche. Not sure why he didn't work out there. He had a very nice stint in Sporting but never managed to be first choice in Sevilla.

*Osasuna have signed Paraguay international striker Ariel Nunez on a one year loan with an option to buy.

*Espanyol are interested in signing Brasilian striker Samuel Rosa from Fluminense. The player is against a loan but it would cost Espanyol 4m for 50% of the players rights. Meanwhile, they have sold Juan Forlin to Al Rayyan for somewhere between 2,5m and 3m euro.

*Cissokho is on the verge of moving to Liverpool on loan, with an option to buy. Liverpool are paying 1m euro for the loan and then could buy the player for an additional 4m at the end of the season. Cissokho was ok last year but I think Valencia really like Juan Bernat to be the next "Jordi Alba" moving from left wing to left back. Plus they have Mathieu as well so the position is pretty well covered.

*Big rumour now is that if Valencia sell Soldado, they are going to go for Fred as the main replacement. They have also been linked with Chicharito and Hugo Almeida but Fred I think would actually be even better than Soldado if they could pull that deal off.

The rest of the news and gossip:

*Atletico are set to bring back Roberto Jimenez from Zaragoza. Now that Robles and Asenjo have been sold to Everton and Villarreal respectively there is no back up for Courtois. Roberto came up through the ranks at Atletico before moving on to a series of loans before landing in Benfica where he became first choice. He then came back to Spain to join Zaragoza but he is going to be available on a pretty low fee as Zaragoza try to clean house after being relegated last spring.

*Gameiro is in Sevilla to undergo his medical. Should be announced officially today.

*News out of Valencia - Gago set to return to Boca for about 1,5m euro; Rami looks like he will be leaving shortly as well, offers from Roma and Napoli in the range of 9-10m euro; Soldado looks set to be going to Tottenham for 30m euro.

*Malaga are signing Argentine defender Marcos Angeleri and have apparently made an offer of 2m euro for Cheryshev.

*Soldado to Tottenham is basically a done deal according to SuperDeporte. Tottenham are going to pay the 30m buyout the only thing left is how the payments will be disbursed. Helder Postiga looks like the most likely replacement although Olivier Giroud's name has also been mentioned in the last day or two.

*Meanwhile Fernando Gago has rescinded his contract with Valencia and leaves on a free to sign with Boca Juniors.

*Malaga are about to sign Bartlomiej Pawlowski. scratch

*Villarreal are looking for a centre back. Dorado is out with a long term injury so the only real centre back they have on the books is Musacchio. Being linked with Bartra.

*Pizzi looks like he is going to move on loan from Atletico to Espanyol. Was looking like he was headed back to Benfica but I guess it will be Montjuic (I know, I know, they don't play there any more) instead.

*Supposedly a couple of different English clubs are interested in Malaga right back Jesus Gamez. Malaga are trying to sell one more player because that would probably give them the flexibility to sign Bendtner which is the striker that Schuster really wants. Malaga are asking for 5m for Gamez.

*FC Barcelona trying to steal Denis Suarez from Man City (who stole him from Celta Vigo) and will no doubt claim that he has Barsa DNA and call him a "canterano" in about 5 years. Erm

*Fabregas has said "Yes!" to Man Utd. Laughing He will be replaced by Gundogan who also has Barsa DNA!!!! ok

A lot about this one in polish press from local sources. But there is a big issue with his club ownership at the moment and Polish Federation will have to settle it first. He looks like a talented kid with good technical skills, but have no idea how he would do going from low level Polish Ekstraklasa team to solid Primera Division club.

Interesting, I'd never heard of him but saw that AS were reporting on the transfer possibility. What position does he play? I think AS were calling him an attacking midfielder but wikipedia says striker. If it's the former maybe they are thinking of him as a replacement for Isco?

The latest report is he would be moving on a one year loan - with an option to buy of about 1m euro.

Not saying you are doing it, but make sure you are not confusing Bartlomiej Pawlowski (central attacker) with Szymon Pawlowski (winger/attacking midfielder).

It's difficult for Malaga to loan him now, as he is already loaned at the moment - from Jagiellonia Bialystok to Widzew Lodz (until 31.12.2013). Widzew can buy him (according to loan contract) for 50k euro (it's not a typo)... but because of money difficulties their transfer activity was suspended by federation before they could make this transfer permanent.

There is no date set for Federation decision yet.

Well AS may well be confusing the two! Wink

Interesting so it seems like this move is going to be quite complicated.

Thanks for shedding some light on a move that I was completely clueless about!

Polish players are so rarely linked with move to Primera Division, so I will make SURE to keep you updated Smile.

Who was the last? Smolarek played for Racing a few years back. And of course Dudek. I remember two or three polish kids were playing in Castilla for like a half season during the Ramon Calderon years. Supposedly Dudek knew about them but I don't think they stayed long.

From my Football Manager years I remember Krzysztof Krol (full back I think) in Castilla, but of course he didn't make it. Technically the last Polish player is/was (there are roumours he will join Rennes) Damien Perquis in Betis, but his there is a suspiction that his blood isn't really white and red. Smolarek and Dudek are last examples I think.

A few years ago Las Palmas (in Segunda Division at that time) bought Tomasz Frankowski (polish version of Kevin Phillips if you are familiar with him) and he was scoring freely there. But after half of the season he made a very stupid move of leaving them and joining Wolverhampton and he was so totally not suited for Championship physical game. Too bad as - even being around 30 at that time - I could see him scoring on Segunda level or maybe even low Primera Division level - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKT-QPT1d3M (4:40 is nice).

Too bad that years of Roman Kosecki (for Atletico) and Jan Urban (for Osasuna) terrorizing Barcelona are long gone.

Krol, yes. I remember that name now. There were two others though. I'll have to look into it.

I remember Kowalzcyk joining Betis shortly after those 1992 Olympics when Poland lost to Spain in the gold medal match. I think a couple others moved to Spain after that tournament as well. Strange that generation never made any major tournament after that. Juskowiak was the player I remember best from that Olympics.

Kowalczyk was a phenomenal talent, but he was also extremely lazy and alcohol was his closest ally. He should have much, much better career, but before he hit 30 he was done as serious footballer.

Juskowiak had a decent career for polish standards. Very professional guy as well and now doing very well as pundit (Kowalczyk also works in this role in more tabloid way), plus he looks like a decent fella, talk to him on constant basis when he is coming to Eurosport office for Bundesliga games.

Probably Marek Kozminski (decent years in Serie A) and Piotr Swierczewski (some really good years in Ligue 1) had best careers out of Barcelona 1992 team. Grzegorz Mielcarski also was very promising, but he had a serious injury after joining FC Porto and was never the same afterwards.

Not yet official, but apparently Widzew Lodz will be allowed  to sell Pawlowski to Malaga, maybe even today - first year on loan (300k euro), additional 700k euro if transfer will be made permanent and 5% from next transfer of this player.

Looking at recent transfers from Polish  League, imo Malaga getting Pawlowski done much, much better than Aston Villa getting Tonev, got IMO more talented player for 1/3 of price. Of course I can be totally wrong Laugh

Thanks for the update. Spanish press saying he was going to be in Malaga for a medical but the details of the move were not really clear.

Medical is already completed. Moment after Widzew will get official "Go" from federation he will be presented as Malaga player.

Forgot to write this earlier - as always you do a great job with La Liga transfers, really helpful in following the market. Plus some of the rumours from your newspapers are just clear fun Biggrin
