Nope. Rudi Garcia managed Gervinho at Lille. They have a good relationship and he said he'd love to work with Gervinho again if given the chance. Nothing to fix here Ale

He is already working with him. Gervinho is his secret agent at Arsenal. He will be the Trojan Horse if Roma play against Arsenal. Gervinho must stay put. <Ale>

Ogbonna to Juve almost done now. Not a bad piece of business this summer from Beppe Marotta; Tevez and Ogbonna in and Giak sold to Sunderland for €8m.

Rumour has it that Juve wanted to fund a move for Diamanti, whom Conte likes.

Giaccherini was very good at the confed cup, but I wasn't that impressed with him in Serie A.

Yup, I agree. I think Juve's main target for the legendary no 10 shirt (of Baggio and Del Piero) is Jovetic, but he is going to cost close to 30m. Diamanti is the discount solution.

Giaccherini is a good squad player but nothing special. He is fine for the league games but Juve must strengthen for the CL now. I think it's a good deal for Juve since they can utilize the funds to buy Diamanti even though I am not completely convinced about his credentials either. But since Conte is very keen on him so he must have something to offer to the squad. Interest in Diamanti also hints at a tactical shift towards 4-3-3.

I still think Juve should splash 30Mn on Jovetic. It will be a pity to see him go elsewhere when he himself wants to join Juve. It will be a pity to see him leave Serie A as well. The viola are a behaving like sulking kids.

You can't blame the club for refusing to accept player swaps that they don't want - they are holding out for a figure close to their valuation, and they will probably get it. To be fair, they have publicly made it clear that "money has no stink" (ie, they will accept an offer from Juve if its the best one). So you can't complain...

Who's complaining Smile  I was just hurling some mild insults at a bitter foe! Jovetic or not...we will still whip their sorry asses on the pitch

Jokes apart...I myself had mentioned in my previous post that Juve should just pay Viola the 30Mn and get over with it. But looks like with the arrival of Tevez that story may have gone sour now.

The way Conte usually plays, after Tevez your need for Jovetic has also reduced. I think Juve's main target now should be an AM to upgrade on Giovinco. Diamanti is a decent option, but I think a Hamsik or a Hernanes would suit Juve more in a 3-4-1-2.

You guys have strengthened well, another scudetto should not be a problem... I can see no challengers... Milan are too young and still have unaddressed gaps. Fiorentina are looking very attractive, but not defensively solid enough for a scudetto challenge. If Napoli spend the Cavani money wisely and click with new coach Benitez (two big Ifs), they could provide a challenge - but more realistically, it will take them a season to get there. Roma and Inter are rebuilding, a top 5 finish would be an achievement for either. Lazio are more or less the same.

Lets see what happens in the rest of the mercato, but I don't see anyone challenging Juve.

Fiorentina never intended to sell Jovetic to Juventus. They kept asking for 30Mn and finally sold him to ManC for 27. They thought they can play around but I guess Marotta read it right early enough to bring in Tevez for 10Mn.

To be fair, it seems the deal is 27m plus 3m in bonus. So yes, they will get their 30m.

Jovetic wanted to join Juve, so if they had matched that offer or even come close to it, the player could have made his choice count.

In the long run, Jovetic with his youth and lower wages was a better option than Tevez. Tevez will cost you about the same, coz while the transfer fee is only 12m (inc bonus), his gross wages are about 10m a year.

mmh methinks u have it backwards.

It was clear from the beginning that Fiorentina had no problems shipping Jovetic to Turin - if and only if the full 30mil pricetag was paid.
It was Juventus that never really intended to pay that cash amount, and Marotta and Ramadani thought they could somewhat play around and force Fiorentina's hand (see the ill-conceived Jovetic interview with the Gazzetta where he declared his dream of playing for Juventus and basically begged to get sold at a discount).
I think Marotta even toyed with the idea of selling one of his big name midfielders to fund the move, but ultimately desisted.

Tevez is a nice buy, great player, relatively on the cheap, and right in Galliani's face =)
Anyway despite being a versatile forward who can play anywhere upfront and even between the lines, he's not a true replacement for Jovetic's role. He's been brought in mainly for improving upon Vucinic/Giovinco/Quagliarella.
And in fact Juve is still after Diamanti.

I would have hated to see Jovetic, my fav non-Inter player, playing for Juve.... it was like during the Baggio days, wishing for Juve to lose and still wanting to see Baggio score! Jovetic is no Baggio, but I am quite fond of him as a player...

So I am grateful.

There isn't that much to talk about yet, eh? =D

Which in the end is a good news in itself.
Getting a seasoned coach, being short on funds, and in the mid of club sale talks, means we are so far restrained from doing Very Silly Things.

The thing I like most is the new coach.
Mazzarri definitely isn't the best around, and also he's some kind of PR smartypants that always try to look better than he is.
But, he's a true HAMMER, and that's what we truly needed after the madness and laissez-faire of the last years.

I like his tough preseason training, I like the no-concessions fitness approach with the old guard, I like the "company man" stance about assessing and evaluating the current squad and trying to make it work with them before thinking about swaps and new faces, I like that we declined to feature in the Trofeo TIM to not interfere with training...

For the rest...

I'm okay with Campagnaro as a Mazzarri ambassador in defence, and I'm happy with Icardi and Belfodil.
They both should've been cheaper for what they've achieved so far but they've got good potential so it's ok.

I'm pissed that Silvestre is still refusing to move anywhere.

I like that Stankovic realized it's over.

I'm okay with cashing in on Caldirola and Donati as I didn't see them having great potential, but I feel like we could have got more for them.

It's a bit sad to see Paulinho go to London but this year was already well late for us.
January 2012 was the right time but it didn't work.

What irks me most so far is the Isla affair.
It seems we are getting an expensive unknown quantity while happily solving a problem for Juve and I don't like this.
I'd preferred we closed on Basta, older and lesser player, but a known quantity and half the price.

I hope we'll close soon at a decent price for Nainggolan because we really need a player like him.
At that point, with the addition of a CB (Dragovic? Don't know shit about him...) the skeleton will be complete and I personally would be satisfied by a conservative transfert season like that.

Then, we'll have to cross fingers to avoid doing Very Silly Things with Guarin and Ranocchia.
Like most Inter fans, I'm not fully convinced by both and they're good candidates for recouping some funds, but we've got to be VERY careful about where we would ship them and what we get in exchange because there's big facepalming potential.

All in all, to borrow one of your favorite expressions, it seems that we finally may be having that badly needed year Zero...

My biggest fear with Mazzarri is that I think he reached his peak with Napoli and he didn't know where to go from there. His squad at Inter is not as well sited to his tactics, and perhaps not as much starting XI quality, as the one he had at Napoli. Just how far can he take us before we need to change coach again?

I am glad the Inter acted early on the transfer market for once (Laxalt, Botta, Campagnaro, Andreolli, Icardi, Belfodil), and that we are trying to give the coach the kind of players he wants (Isla, Nainggolan). Those are the positives for me. Yeah, some of our negotiation was as incompetent as always (Icardi, Belfodil, Donati, Caldirola). I am not against selling Guarin or Ranocchia, as long as we get good profit from those sales. I would hate to see Ranocchia leaving for less than what we paid for him (20m-ish). And with regards to Ranocchia (as you mentioned, facepalm potential), no Milan or Juve pls. Anyone else is ok.

Also, I would like us to further trim the squad. I know Mazzarri is evaluating the players first, and that is how it should be, but if we get rid of players like Silvestre, Jonathan, Chivu, Schelotto, etc, that would be cool. Its year 0 (Razz), we are not in europe, we don't need a big squad.

So another world class talent wastes his time in the French League for money. I fail to believe Cavani is worth 55 million and Suarez is only worth 40 if that. Suarez is proven in the Premier League so should be worth the same if not more.

It depends on what the buying team wants, they are very different sort of strikers. Cavani, in the right environment, will score more goals and for some top sides, that is more valuable at the moment. And then there is the question of temperament and controversy that is always attached to Suarez... I guess that doesn't help his price. But if an Arab rich clubs bids for Suarez, he will go for a crazy big amount too.

IMO Cavani and Falcao are not worth the money these French clubs paid for them... its just crazy.

De La claims that now he will spend 124m on transfers this summer. Great for Italian football, but saying something like that will probably increase the valuations of all players they are interested in by 20%!

And Rafa, please don't waste that money!! You have no excuse now...
