This season the MLS finishes at the end of October, so they would have a month or so of not playing before a winter world cup, so they'll essentially have the same issue most countries have before a world cup. Not really the biggest concern out there eh Dicko?

Depends where you are in the world really, I was assuming a winter world cup would be in december/january.

Should give it to the US. MLS is emerging as a better league, have some of the best infrastructure, and we have the largest stadiums in the world.

Unfortunately FIFA see existing infrastructure as a bad thing, nation building projects are probably more profitable for them. I bet it's like the Sopranos and that Esplanade thing, Sepp Blatter and Jack Warner arguing over who gets the most no-show jobs.

I'd totally second that, until I realize that the euro networks would want their nice final in the evening and again force a kick off at noon in a Qatar-like furnace

Can't link to it at the moment, but The Financial Times says that FIFA is questioning Brazil hosting the 2014 World Cup. Apparently a few of the stadiums look like they won't be ready and infrastructure is terrible. The straw that has broken the camel's back though are the protests.

In slightly different news, just to show what c**ts FIFA and UEFA are:
Fifa and Uefa have lost an appeal against a European ruling that the World Cup and Euro Championships must be shown on free-to-air TV in the UK.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23288211

It's all about the money, money ...

Of course no-one will thank the EU bodies that blocked FIFA and UEFA, and if the UK has a vote and get themselves thrown out of the EU, then you will all have to pay for SKY if you want to watch Wink

The 2022 World Cup should have been given to Australia which already has all the infrastructure needed and is a beautiful place with lovely weather and people.

Blatter admits FIFA made a mistake:
http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1548535/fifa-president-sepp-blatter-defiant-2022-world-cup-mistake?cc=5739

After admitting that mistake in a less than conciliatory tone he goes on to say FIFA has final say (so can have it on the moon as long as they get paid enough), however Europeans and South americans should stop complaining about it spoiling their existing league calendars Very Happy

Australia threatening to sue over 2022 compensation.
Actually they didn't this is what the FFA were saying:

FIFAs 3 October meeting should consider the following:
If there is consensus within the Ex-Co that a change in date should be considered, then a transparent process should be established to examine the scheduling implications for all leagues and a method developed for agreeing appropriate compensation for those affected.
An in-principle decision that just and fair compensation should be paid to those nations that invested many millions, and national prestige, in bidding for a summer event.
That any final decision on a winter World Cup should only be made after the investigative chamber of FIFAs Ethics Committee, chaired by Mr Michael Garcia, concludes its inquiries into the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

There is no threat to sue

The way the wind is blowing the winter world cup in Qatar is going to happen. The member associations will tow the line with FIFA, and the big clubs/leagues who could cause the main problems look like they will be bribed with "favours"

FIFA will get away with their corruption again Twisted Evil

Just random thought, since the World Cup and Winter Olympics happen in the same year, wouldn't switching the World Cup to winter really screw things up.

It screws things up for those that make money out of the winter Olympics, and anyone that is interested in both events, some Canadians maybe?

Other than the north american ones, those countries would fuck the winter olympics off in a second for the world cup. The 2 events are on completely different levels.

The reality is that Australia should have been given the World Cup.

1. We already have the stadia.
2. We have the weather.
3. We will qualify for the World Cup anyway.
4. We have some dardy Sheilas.
