Fellaini is more of a jack-of-all-trades rather than a specialist. Me preferably, i'd prefer a specialist. A good sitting DM who can also pass from deep (Capoue). Capoue is also a bonus as he can play CB too, similar to Martinez in this regard.

I understand your skepticism. I normally feel the same way. But the board and Wenger have opened themseleves up to mass ridicule if they don't spend. I believe they will do. For me, an AM is as much of a necessity as a CF.

Theo won't play up to. Ox may get more chances in the middle. And Grenier isn't a right winger.

What business has any other club besides City done? The window hasn't even officially opened yet.

City
Chelsea
West Ham
Liverpool

The window hasn't opened but we all know that means nothing. We had signed Poldi by this stage last season

I figured he was around that age but didn't realise he'd been at Madrid for 6 years!

Higuain has some pedigree for a 25-year-old. Deal still isn't done yet though so i'm not getting ahead of myself yet. Good deal if true though. Still need a DM, AM and experienced GK ok

7 years actually, he came when he was 18.

I wish him all the best though. A good lad and a very good striker. He plays with guts which is something that Arsenal can really use.

He wasn't one of the highest paid players but he'd just got an improved contract last summer. The biggest issue was that Higuain never found his goalscoring touch in the Champions League and a lot of fans blamed him in particular for us going out to Dortmund. I think he felt unloved and he decided a couple months ago that he wanted to go. It's a shame because I'd have him over Benzema any day of the week. I'd seen a rumour that Ancelotti was actually hoping to change his mind but now I don't know if he can go back after publicly saying that he wanted to leave.

French press are saying that Lyon have rejected our offer for Grenier. Dealing with Aulas is always going to be difficult but I fear that AW and Law may be once again haggling over the odd million in the transfer fee, or two or £10k in the wages and we'll end up missing all our targets as we did with Alonso (we begrudged an additional £2mil to Liverpool) and Mata (ditto with Valencia, though I'm not sure exactly how much was at stake there). And we'll find ourselves empty-handed once again come end of August, bar a few injury-prone last-minute panic buy 19-year olds and AW will declare that the market's gone mad and there is no value left.

On the other hand, Higuain deal does seem to be progressing and Ancelotti's formal appointment should help things. However I won't be surprised if we have to wait until RM have nailed Cavani - and that will take time as they have to deal with Napoli Rolling Eyes

I don't know what to make of Julio Cesar stories but Mannone looks definitely to be on his way out and Flappy doesn't want to stay either so we do need someone. I'm a bit gutted about Mignolet though I know he's not the best fit for us.

The Higuain deal should've been done ages ago. Madrid managed to buy Isco with no manager there so this bit about needing someone to sanction the deal is pure BS. Players are back for pre-season next week, it's imperative that this week is busy transfer-wise.

Cesar I don't rate but it could and probably will happen. Theoretically it's what we should be going for - an experienced back-up to contest with Szcz, I just don't rate the Brazilian. Mannone is gone which is great and Fabianski will go too if we get Cesar.

Mignolet is cool though I don't know what that would've meant for Szcz had we bought him.

Cesar is a quality keeper and will be more than a good stand-in for Chesney. He'll want to play regularly next season leading up to WC in his home country . It may do Chesney some good to have to play second fiddle for a while, and watch and learn from an experienced player - I felt the big-fish-in-a-small-pond-syndrome was a big factor in his dip in form last season.

We'll need a third keeper of course. Is that James Shea still around and is he any good?

I don't rate him. He's a decent shot-stopper but isn't exactly great at commanding his areas. And he's prone to a big gaffe every now and then.

Martinez will be third choice keeper.

Seems like people are blaming the buyer but this is a problem made by the seller(s). The people involved (agents and chairmen) are notorious c**ts. Once a deal has been made orally, until everything is signed they are still pimping out the players. What actually happens is that AW/Arsenal and Lyon agree to say 10 million for the Lyon player. Lyon tell Arsenal say no problem we need a couple of days to sort out the paperwork, and immediately start telling other teams e.g. Liverpool that 11 million would get them the player, so Liverpool agree orally, so when the paperwork is drawn up for Arsneal, Lyon have put 12 million in it, telling Arsenal that they did in fact get an offer for 11 million from Liverpool but they anticipated that Arsenal would be willing to do the necessary. So now Arsenal/AW have a choice, do the right thing and walk away (and be blamed by Arsenal fans for arguing over 2 million) or pay an extra 2 million (be seen as a soft touch, and get blamed by Arsenal fans for overpaying).

Deals done on the last day are simpler in a way as there is no time to pimp the player around once you have an offer.

The problem has always been Wenger, he's a penny-pincher. He's admitted to it several times. All while being the highest paid manager in the league. Biggest hypocrite. Get him out.

What an obsolete way in doing business both parties involved require a fair and even footing to start and finish a bid. Why not just put the player on Ebay. lol!
