Not too upset about this. If this is this years "Joel Campbell" signing, at least we did it fairly early on, and didn't waste our time while we should be pursuing other targets.

Centre forward is one of the few positions where we need more numbers, rather than just better players, so useful to have a bit of depth.

Why is it only children, and evidently Bash (oh and messiah), that "gets" it? It's not about whether he can be replaced, else why would we have suddenly signed all these well-established and handsome players. It's more that it's the end of fußball. At least if he'd gone to City it would have been funny in its preposterousness.

Plus this well-worn bullshit argument "going somewhere to win trophies" (you're supposed to win the clubs trophies, not they for you) is a bit annoying when the fuckers weren't guaranteed to finish above us before he went to them.

That said I don't know where all the big talk from Ray ( Hug ) etc about challenging from the title comes from; it will clearly be fourth again, unless you're a pessimist. The likes of Ramsey and Gervinho just aren't good enough and even our best players are generally a cut below the cream (to mix metaphors?!). Poldi and Merte are not Reus and Hummels, for the millionth time.

Chinagogues etc <Ale>

(Not caught up on last couple of weeks yet but) Well, I did call it – not sure if there's a post where I said the top four was so predictabley going to be United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal in that order, but shoulda put money on, even if it was a narrow squeak and a bit more of a rollercoaster than I was expecting.

Is this to replace Verm or Mert? Can't imagine he would want to be 3rd or 4th choice behind Kos as well. But Ash isn't that great; I hope we don't end up getting him to be honest.

Probably as Vermaelen replacement. But right now Kos and Mert look a very good partnership. I think i'm right in saying that they didn't lose a game they played together this season(17).

Remarkable how Mert has gone from the village idiot to a respectable gentleman in a season. I wish that happened with our central defenders like Coates and Kygriakos. Maybe they just need games to get used to things or maybe they were just shite.

I don't think he was ever a village idiot. It's just his lack of pace, especially in this league, that caused a lot of people to think he's shit. But his reading of the game is very good. Still, I think he has his limitations and if someone like Sakho became available, i'd bench Mert for him. We made a big error in not getting Vertonghen IMO ok

What is the problem with Coates out of curiosity? I only ever really saw him at the Copa America a couple years ago but he looked good then and was still only a teenager I believe. Looked like he had the makings of a pretty good player.

Lack of a brain it seems. Lets the ball bounce which is suicide in this league. He is only young but he looks a disaster in nearly every game he plays for us. As I say though, you only get better by playing a consistent run of games and when you're young you need either experienced leaders to play alongside you or players in damn good form and I don't think he's had either.

Ramsey's form has been boss since January, his work rate is outrageous. Once he gets his passing back to how it was pre-leg break, he'll be a top player. Still need a DM though.

The agent of Brazilian midfielder Denilson has confirmed that Arsenal have cancelled his contract by mutual consent. The Arsenal midfielder has spent the last two years on loan at his boyhood club Sao Paulo, with the suggestion that they could not afford his current salary to take him on a permanent deal.

It just so happens I watched Denilson`s Sao Paulo play Atletico Mineiro last night and he was again red carded for a deliberate handball (having earlier been booked too). Despite that, he seems to have settled into life back home and has played well for Soberano. He did have one year left on his Arsenal contract to run, but his representative Alexandre Soares confirmed last night that his contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

"I can confirm Denilson and Arsenal have agreed to terminate his contract at the end of this month,' Soares told Sky Sports.

'Denilson is free to move to another club and a number of clubs are interested in him.

'I do not want to name teams, but there is interest from Brazil as well as Russia, Italy, Germany and Turkey and I am talking to them.

'No decision has been made and we will assess all offers that come our way.

'If Denilson does stay in Brazil, Sao Paulo has the priority, but I do not rule out him moving to another Brazilian club as well.'
Congratulations for finally getting rid of him Ale

That should be the start. The following all need to go as well:

Bendtner, Chamakh, Frimpong, Fabianski, Djourou Santos Mannone Park, Gervinho, Coquelin (maybe)

No idea how accurate this site is, but according to them Arshavin, Frimpong, Fabianski, and Squillacci are out of contract this summer. I thought Park was too.

It is normally very accurate, especially with factual information such as lengths of contracts etc, whereas values are, of course, estimates.

Cleaout begins. Arshavin, Squilacci and Denilson released

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-trio-set-to-leave-the-club

I had a soft spot for Arshavin - a shame it went sour after a promising start. It is a gamble to sign a player relatively late in his career who'd never played outside of their own country - I'd say you need to get them before they are 25, then adaptation rate slows down. Which shows we've been lucky so far with Cazorla.

We need to get rid of Bendtner, Chamakh, and Park next.

I don't think there was any problem with Arshavin adapting - it had more to do with him being a lazy bastard. We bought Pires after 25, he adapted fine, so too Cazorla. Drogba is a perfect example for Chelsea, joining them late in his career. Ultimately, he has nobody to blame but himself. Good riddance. 90k off the wage bill. Now to discard of Bendtner, Chamakh, Djourou, Santos, Park, hopefully Gervinho too.

I had a debate with a colleague today about this. Is he what we need? scratch

If we buy him, that would probably mean we won't buy a CF(I am NOT taken in by this talk of more money for AW to spend. They do this every summer, for the season ticket renewal period). My suspicion is that the plan is to move Walcott to the centre and have AOC/Grenier fight it out for the RW.
