Was a great game for the 1st 45 and last 10 mins. Honda and Kagawa have great understanding, united could do worse than sign Honda, but Japan need more oomph in attack - great until they get to the edge of the box but a tendency to over play.

Who plays where? Don't they both like to play behind the striker?

Might as well give nations like Japan, USA, Mexico get a ticket every time there will be a WC. I honestly dont see the point of them having to play qualifiers all the time.

Infact. I think we should ban all qualfiers. It's outdated.

Honda was central and deeper but with Endo and Hasebe behind so lots of freedom ("central midfield" if you're a journalist talking about Lampard from Summer '04 to Jan '12 Rolling Eyes )

Kagawa seemed to have a fairly free role sometimes as furthest player forward in CF position but often popping up on the left.

Suprised a really big club hasn't taken Honda yet - you have the old school AM like Riquelme/Totti all about creativity and then the new type like Lampard/Gerrard who are about goals - Honda is the perfect blend of the two. He is very creative (a lot more than I thought he was 1st couple of times I saw him play) but has a great strike from 18-25 yards, excellent set-pieces but can also arrive in the box to score the uglier goals more often than people may think. Perhaps he is seen as not quick enough to play in the final 3rd for a top team in England/germany ?

Any team that includes Endo, Honda and Kagawa will always be easy on the eye but there is not enough competition for them in Asia as Fey says.

They went down to 10 early on in australia and the socceroos' goal yesterday was a fluke but they must be disappointed to not win either game v an ageing and talentless Aus and, as entertaining as they are, I would expect them to finish 4th in their Confed cup group.

WC group will never be as difficult as that and they will prob reach 2nd round/QF - at a push SF if they hit top form and get a really good draw.

Honda never intended to stay at CSKA as long as he has - a couple of long-term injuries didn't help, and I also believe he is on a pretty high salary which probably doesn't help motivate him or the agent to look elsewhere. However he is getting to an age (27) when he does need to make a move. Germany beckons maybe?

Another one worth looking out for is Gotoku Sakai, the LB who currently plays for Stuttgart. Good moving forward and a hard tackler too.

Australia qualify thanks to late winner vs Iraq. were in danger of being overtook by Oman if they'd drawn this.

Interesting this afternoon, Uzbekistan could qualify for their first WC if they win and Iran lose at South Korea.

It was not to be. Iran, S.Korea and Australia qualify, means Uzebekistan plays Jordan, and then plays the 5th placed S. America team, good luck with that Sad

The US nearly clenched qualification, just needs 3 points from final 4 matches.
