Even though Beckham is a Man Utd product, he's from East London, so was always viewed a bit differently to Scholes, Butt, the Neville bros. etc.

Likewise Carrick, He's actually from the Newcastle area but he came up in West Ham's system, and he received way less love than he likes of Rio, Anton, J. Cole and Lampard (all genuine Londoners)

Differently how?

Always seen as a bit of a flash londoner compared to the quieter, harder working, blue collar northerners. The Posh spice relationship only added to that.

Today's news:

*Iago Aspas returns to Spain. One year loan with Sevilla with a 6m option to buy next summer.

*Valencia want to sell Banega Superstar and he wants to leave. The problem is to find a club that will take him. He was on loan at Newell's but Valencia are still trying to bring in a little cash for the player. Maybe some Russian team will take an interest.

*Valencia have also told B*rsa to f*ck off regarding Mathieu. They basically said unless they come with an offer of 20m + they have no interest in listening.

*Victor Fernandez wants to have Bojan and Deportivo. Nobody on earth knows why.

*Almeria are loaning Welington Silva from Arsenal. He's been on loan a couple of times in Spain, last year with Murcia. Obviously he's looking like a big time star. Erm

*Sounds like there is going to be a battle for Antoine Griezmann this summer. Arsenal and Man Utd were linked with him earlier in the summer. Now Chelsea and Monaco have been added to the list. Monaco are supposedly willing to pay the 30m buyout clause whereas the English clubs are all being skinflints and trying to negotiate the price down. Monaco want him to replace James Rodriguez. bounce

*Two main priorities now for Atletico are Juan Iturbe and Nicolas Gaitan. Both would make a lot of sense. I posted a brief analysis of their squad in the la liga thread and they really are short a striker (Iturbe) and a player that can play in either of the wide positions to rotate with Arda Turan and Koke (Gaitan). Both Argies so I'm sure they would give their lives to play for Simeone. AS are saying they have offered 28m for Iturbe and 25m for Gaitan.

*Borja Valero has renewed his deal with Fiorentina. There was a rumour doing the rounds that he could return to Spain and that Sevilla were interested if the price were right but I guess this news ends that speculation.

*Just seen this off of twitter but apparently there is an agreement between Monaco and Real Madrid for James: 70m + Casemiro. bounce

Espanyol confirming that they have signed Felipe Caicedo on a free. That could be a real bargain.

Navas to real, don't understand why atletico didn't buy him, instead of spending more on Oblak

Guess they think he has more resale value in the future

No, 11m. Maybe if he makes all of the incentive variables it could rise a little but not all the way to 20m.

A few odds and ends:

*Lopetegui keeps collecting players from la liga in FC Porto. Cristian Tello moves on a two year loan from Barcelona. La Masia! Ale

*Valencia have signed Andre Gomes from Benfica. Once of several Benfica players that has been linked with a move to Valencia since Peter Lim has been associated with the club. Don't know that much about him but seems like a pretty good all around CM/AM.

*Rayo Vallecano have signed Manucho. Laughing

*Eibar want to sign Jose Rodriguez from RM Castilla. Pretty sure at best it would be a loan deal.

*Roma have signed Iturbe so it's back to the drawing board for Atletico who are now also going to be without their new signing Angel Correa after the doctors found a tumour in his heart. At least 6 months out but he may never play again. Yikes

*With Liverpool still nitpicking over the Alberto Moreno deal, Atletico have now gotten involved. Not really sure why they need him if they just signed Siqueira although I hear Insua is probably leaving. Atletico are offering 15m + Leo Baptistao + Javier Manquillo.

*Diego Lopez's agent seems to be backtracking a little. Yesterday he came out to say that Lopez was not leaving under any circumstances. Today he is saying "only if a great offer came would Lopez leave". Interesting thing is that after the WC supposedly Iker has requested to leave but the Florentino refused. Lopez wants to stay but is probably going to be sold. In the end, I won't be surprised if both leave and the GKs for next year are Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla.

*Valencia and Barcelona are under tense negotiations for Mathieu. Valencia say they are holding out for the 20m buyout. Barcelona are "a long way" from that number according to Salvo. But the latest rumour is they are offering 15m + Afellay.

*Jose making an extra push to try and hijack the Sami Khedira moved. I always like that guy Jose! Biggrin

*Jose also preparing a 40m bid for Varane. I ALWAYS HATED YOU JOSE!!!!! Grr

*With Conte gone and Allegri out there is some deal whether the Morata deal is still going through. He is in Valdebebas training with the team. Wouldn't be so bad if he stayed.

*Sunderland want Cebolla Rodriguez. He is really not that good so that is probably a good place for him.

No-on really cares about isco and illaramendi, and alonso is getting on a bit so kroos is potentially an eventual replacement for him.

They can also play bale as a fullback, and there are always injuries.

Obviously Alonso isn't fit to play all of the games any longer. Isco is very versatile and since Jese is out probably until December he will probably be used more as an out and out forward (either on the wing or as a false 9) as he did at times in Malaga.

In other news:

*I know that I've been a rather outspoken member of the anti-Jose camp but if he ends up buying Khedira and selling Fernando Torres back to Atleti I may well change my avatar to the following:

*Rodrigo is in Valencia and has passed his medical revision.

*Tiago looks set to return to Atletico. He was out of contract and everyone thought he was going to play for Jose in Chelsea but apparently they never offered him a deal so he's returned to Madrid to negotiate a new short term deal. He's a pretty smart guy and I think Simeone really likes him in specific situations even if he isn't going to play most of the minutes like he did when he was younger.

*Barcelona are tracking Sao Paulo midfielder Rodrigo Caio. #lamasiarules

*Xavi is going to join David Villa at New York City FC.

*Fiorentina asking 40m for Cuadrado. Barcelona apparently will pay it but only if they can sell Dani Alves first (which won't happen).

*Callejon was being linked with a move to Atleti but he's said he is happy in Naples and not planning to move.

*Griezmann to Monaco is almost for sure happening now that they have sold James.

*Villarreal are trying to sign Manuel Lanzini from River Plate. Attacking midfielder, I guess the price would be about 9m. I have never seen him. Anyone know anything about him?

The players listed first are my guess as to who will be the XI.

?????, Carvajal, Varane, Sergio Ramos, Coentrao, Modric, Kroos, James, Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo.

What I am not sure of is the goalkeeper. Very confusing situation.

Honestly I don't know how the guy does it. He is collecting fees from Benfica and Porto as well. Unreal. I got into the wrong business apparently....

Nobody really knows. He's played like 3 times for the senior team. He's most likely not going to be better than Glen Johnson if that's what you are hoping.
