Poor Yaya's Birthday Blues

Post by debaser on Tue May 20, 2014 1:36 pm

Sad

Yaya Toure's agent has criticised Manchester City's attempts to mark the midfielder's birthday with a tweet, describing their efforts as "a joke".

City gave Toure a birthday cake as they flew to Abu Dhabi and tweeted their congratulations after he turned 31.

But Dimitri Seluk says Toure is "very upset" the club's owners failed to acknowledge him personally and says he may leave over their lack of respect.

"None of them shook his hand on his birthday. It's really sick," he said.

City declined to comment officially but BBC Sport understands club officials are not too alarmed by Seluk's claims.

Seluk also claimed Toure was unhappy last summer, shortly before he signed a new four-year contract.

Seluk says Toure did not expect a present after turning 31 on 13 May but was unhappy at being ignored by the club's wealthy owners when the squad arrived in the United Arab Emirates last week to celebrate their Premier League title triumph.

"He got a cake but when it was Roberto Carlos's birthday, the president of Anzhi gave him a Bugatti," Seluk told BBC Sport.

"I don't expect City to present Yaya with a Bugatti, we only asked that they shook his hand and said 'we congratulate you'. It is the minimum they must do when it is his birthday and the squad is all together.

"I hear one newspaper has written that City congratulated him from Twitter but this is a joke. It is better they don't put anything on Twitter if they are not saying anything to him.

"The club's owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday. It shows they don't care about him.

"Of course Yaya is upset about this. It is his birthday and nobody said anything or shook his hand, so he does not feel comfortable.

"If this happened to you as a journalist in the BBC and nobody shakes your hand, you will say bye-bye and go to work for somebody else. It is normal."

--

Agents do come out with a lot of shit when they're trying to weasel around for more money, but I've never seen anything quite as pathetic as these quotesLaughing

My agent was trying to make a point here on my behalf, joke aside. It seems important for me to make a statement..i am going to do so.

Everything dimitry said is true . He speaks for me . I will give an interview after world cup to explain.

I like this story. Whenever we get creative players with a wildly independent side and frantic ego we can remind ourselves that the prima donna stuff is actually no reflection of their through balls and clever flicks, it's just greed responding to pampering. Take a box to box midfielder, throw enough money and praise at him, he'll transform into the same sort of idiot. A guy who feels put upon when asked to fill holes at the best club in the world in exchange for millions of euros a year doesn't suddenly become sensible when you indulge his demands.

Frankly it's only the corrosive effect on team spirit/sanity of their filthy recruitment policy which stops City demolishing the league unchallenged every damn year. Long may the douchebaggery continue. Bring back Mario.

Hilarious, but then again Rooney & Terry have already pulled similar stunts for new contracts over the years so a greedy player is a greedy player.

A serious case of EPLitis, to be fair it's the media's fault. That is hyping him and he is starting to believe in it. If I was an average player and the media compared me to the latest world wonder, I would start to believe in it as well. Im fairly sure when Yaya was still at Beveren he was already pleased when the coach could tell him apart from the other Africans, let alone remember his bday.

He is average in a football league, like La Liga. Great EPL player though. Being good in the EPL doesnt mean he is a good footballer, you one dimensional turd.

Anyway, staying on topic, I have the greatest birthday gift just for you.

That is true but this has reached a truly pathetic level of petulance. In any respect I'm not sure it is really about the money. I think he really thinks he is underappreciated and I can't fathom why he thinks this. Compared to who?

I almost understand it if is just about money, although it is still pathetic.

Fey
Yaya is average?
So his driving moves? His passing? His finishes and long shots? His presence in midfield?

So who would you compare him to?

Im not really a fan of him, no. Ask yourself this, would he still make the same impact in the game if he was 20cm shorter? His first touch is abysmal, his vision is very average. Got a good shot, and a great pair of lungs. But compared to the likes of Modric, Busquets, Gabi etc. He lacks too much.

He is amazing in the Essien, Tiote, Fer, Sandro category though.

Well we live in a heavily commercialised and not very well integrated country - it would be a bit suprising if an African got equal praise for his achievements to a pale player.

You use pale people to sell to pale people.

Darkies just aren't marketable its why when you have an advert with 4 people in or a new breakfast tv show with 4 presenters, one of the four must be an ethnic but at the same time can't be too dark.

Its like when people were falling over themselves to call Torres the best no 9 in the world whilst barely mentioning Adebayor and look at what Drogba had to do to earn anything close to parity with the white/latin players.

Toure should have won player of the year ahead of Suarez - just another Henry, don't bother if you're not going to turn up for the big ones.

Horrible footballer that thinks is better then he actually is.

Could have been good in a different age though..but not in the 10's.

Sure but so what? You tend to use the group you're trying to sell to in your ad.

Drogba/Eto were considered the best strikers in the world at one point. Torres and maybe Villa was also competing.

Toure has a good claim on that award but I think most were in the Suarez camp. However if Toure had won I think most would have understood. So this doesn't really fit in well with being a victim. Now in terms of the Ballon D'or which he is also complaining about it be because City has done nothing in the competition matters, Champions League. Does he seriously expect to be on par with Messi/Ronaldo when he hasn't gone beyond the last 16 since 2010?

He doesn't deserve Ballon d'or - Drogba and Eto'o had to do a lot more to be considered best in teh world than Torres did.
