La Liga 2014/15 Season Thread

Post by Jaime on Fri May 30, 2014 2:52 am

Well, not all of the promoted teams have been finalised yet but LFP just released the dates for the new season so I thought I would start the new thread.

Supercopa 1st leg - 20 agosto

Supercopa 2nd leg - 27 agosto

Jornada 1 - 23, 24 agosto

Jornada 36 - 23, 24 mayo

Copa del Rey Final - 30 mayo

Now why the hell the 2nd leg of the Supercopa is played AFTER the first round of league fixtures is beyond me but anyhow. There you go!

So Eibar are in after winning the league last week. The best story in a long while is that they are going to celebrate the title and promotion in their home stadium this week using the confetti that Barcelona had purchased and then had no use for after Atletico won the league in the Camp Nou! Apparently there is a second hand market for unused confetti. lol!

Deportivo are basically in. It would take a colossal screw up for them to miss it now.

Playoff spots are all still up for grabs really with two rounds left:

3 Las Palmas 60
4 Sporting 60
5 Barcelona B 60
6 Murcia 59
7 Córdoba 59
8 Recreativo 59
9 Sabadell 58
10 Alcorcón 56
11 Tenerife 54

Castilla was always going to be in trouble after they sacked Toril and so many of the key players from the last two years moved on, either to the first team or else where. There were a lot of loan signings for Castilla in an attempt to patch together some experience but for the most part everyone who came was a shit mercenary. We would have been better off playing the kids from Juvenil A who ended up getting a lot of minutes in the end anyhow. Most everyone in the current team should be shown the door. Stick with Pacheco, Diego Llorente, Derik, Jose Rodriguez, Raul de Tomas, Benavente, and maybe one or two others like Noblejas and Mascarell and then the rest should be the best of the Juvenil A.

Of course there is very little you should be happy about because the record setting Barsa B is full of players not even from la masia. The best player is Denis Suarez who is from Celta Vigo via Man City. Wow....amazing player development.

Hi amigos,,, I wanna ask you about Herrera... What kind of player he is? What is his best position? What is he good at? Would he be 'the one' for United midfield?

Gracias

Herrera is awesome! He's an all arounder but his best position is attacking midfielder. In Athletic he was usually playing in front of Iturraspe and Mikel Rico behind the centre forward. He can drop deeper though too. Will easily be the best midfielder you have signed in ages.

Gracias Jaime  <Ale>

Ohhh one more question... Would you like to have him for Madrid with price between €27m - 36m? (I know it is a stupid question but I'm just curious)

Yes! And I'm pretty sure if you didn't buy him, Barcelona were going to make an offer.

Was looking at how the defending league champions squad is shaping up so far.

IN: Mario Mandžukić, Ángel Correa, Jan Oblak, Guilherme Siqueira

OUT: Diego Costa, Filipe Luís, Thibault Courtois, David Villa, Adrián López, Tiago, Diego, José Sosa

It does sound like Cristian Rodríguez will probably leave before the beginning of the season as will Josuha Guilavogui. Óliver Torres has gone on loan to Porto and it is also reported that Léo Baptistão will probably be farmed out for another season.

So while they have found more than suitable replacement for GK, DL, and ST they still have a lot of holes to fill in the squad.

The squad is basically as follows:

GK: Jan Oblak, Miguel Ángel Moyà, Dani Aranzubia
DR: Juanfran, Javier Manquillo
DL: Guilherme Siqueira, Emiliano Insúa
DC: Diego Godín, Toby Alderweireld
DC: João Miranda, José María Giménez
MR: Koke, ?????
MC: Gabi, Saúl Ñíguez
MC: Mario Suárez, ?????
ML: Arda Turan, ?????
AMC/ST: Raúl García, Ángel Correa
ST: Mario Mandžukić, ?????

To me they still need to add depth for the outside midfielders that was previously provided by Cebolla Rodriguez and Jose Sosa last year. Definitely need one more central midfielder. And probably another striker too unles Leo Baptistao ends up staying. This of course is assuming there are no other notable departures but at his point Miranda has said that he is staying and also there is no news on Turan leaving either.

Ok. Not to alarm anyone but Atletico have signed Griezmann. And Ansaldi. And Callejon looks like he will be next. And Cazorla's name has resurfaced.

But Callejon would be perfect for Simeone too. The way he works his ass off and pressures plus his penchant for scoring goals. Imagine if Atleti signed both. Apparently they still want to make 4 signings. Yikes

I can't believe that I am saying it but recently they have been really smart with their transfers. Selling star players for outrageous prices and the reinvesting in cheaper, but still quality replacements.

IN
Mandzukic €20
Siqueira €10
Oblak €16
Griezmann €24
Moya €3
Correa €7

€80

OUT
D. Costa €40
F. Luis €24
Adrian €15
Asenjo €6

€85

Plus they have a big sum of money this year from last year's CL prize money.

just 5m spent, they basically used the costa money to buy two studs in mandzukic and grienzmann.

now they will start spending from their original transfer budget to fill out the squad.

if only the lim deal for valencia would go through, La liga would be even more interesting
