The work rate of James and especially Isco Yikes

Superb game from us and a great team performance offensively and defensively

Remarkable that Ancelotti has managed to make us a passing side without us losing the counterattacking edge and directness.

Ancelotti <Ale>

Yea James and Isco's work rate is phenomenal. I also think Benzema's form and importance in the team doesn't get enough credit. He is obviously in a big shadow from Ronaldo but his movement and link up play has been fantastic so far.

No doubt about that but Benzema at his best has always delivered these things which is why keeping him, at current form, has always been preferable to replacing him with a superstar who wouldn't give us those qualities. When he is this consistent he is perfect for the team. Right now he is in a good spell and hopefully he can keep it up for an entire season. I wonder how much of this is also due to having James and Isco on top of Kroo+Modric to combine with. Easier to work with for Benzema than Di Maria or Bale who were more individualistic in style. Not surprisingly Bale out and Isco in has made a considerable difference to the balance.

James thrieved much more in this game and the one against Liverpool. Presumably he can handle these big games with a higher pace and more space better than against smaller and middle teams. Or it could be that he is finding his form on the right. I suspect it is the former but I guess we will see in the next couple of games.

Also have to say that Marcelo did great and at times it resembled the penetration of Di Maria in the last classico. Of course it helps immensely when you also have Isco working ahead of you. Even saw Ronaldo help a little at times. Pepe+Ramos were wonderful in backing each other up. They made up for the lack of cover ahead of them. In general we always had players willing to come back as the last line of defense. This mentality was never quite there under Mourinho.

So much for Madrid's lack of a true defensive midfielder causing them to be undermined by better teams.... Kroos is developing very well over there on the defensive front; very soon he will match Schweinsteiger in that regard plus superior passing & shooting. His mastery of the uglier side of the game (going down easy, little cynical challenges in the middle of the field, etc.) has also gone a long way in ensuring that the Madrid midfield is not as easily overrun as you might otherwise expect.

"Sky Sports are unable to screen the first quarter of an hour of Barça's eagerly awaited clash away to Real Madrid because no British broadcaster is allowed to show live football between 2.45pm and 5.15pm. The rule is designed to protect attendances at British games with a 3pm kick-off."

That's ridiculous. If you are match goer, especially for lower league teams (their supporters appear to be better at attending matches, presumably because of the lower cost) you'll go anyway. And if you're desparate to watch the classico, you'll stay at home or find some way of watching it. Short of totally blacking out the broadcast it's not going to have an effect.

Really disappointed with outcome of Sevilla-Villarreal match. Guests were looking quite comfortable all evening at Pizjuan... and then collapsed during last few minutes.

So "The Chosen One" was choosed this time by Real Sociedad. I think it's a decent spot for him and it should be interesting to follow his adventures there.

Very good performance by Villarreat at Calderon limiting hosts to a few chances only. No Musacchio, no Cani and no Gio dos Santos... and no problem. But even without them Marcelino has some quality options all over the team. Team is well organized, can play passing game, but at the same time has plenty of pace up front which really troubles opposite's defences.

And Vietto keeps getting better and better.

Yeah, I think they have a great set up in style. A really annoying team to meet. Only caught the highlights but liked the looks of Vietto. How did Cheryshev do?

2 more goals for Vietto against Deportivo last weekend, he is really firing on all cylinders these days. Still his decision making and all around game needs work, but he is a decent finisher, plays stronger than he looks and works hard defensively. He looks the best when he is playing alongside Uche, as Nigerian is surprisengly versatile forward. I always considered him to be a poacher type (probably too much FM with him), but he does so much more.

Cheryshev is a weird case. When you are watching him he seems to be a very selfish player. But he has the highest amount of assists from Villarreal team this season. Works very hard and really does know how to utilize his pace. Hopefully Villarreal will be able to buy him during the summer.

Apparetly Villarreal is looking into signing either Henrique (Napoli) or Eric Bailly (Espanyol) to replace Gabriel. I remember Henrique name from Barcelona fame, but I didn't watch him much in my life. Any opinion on him? Just saw that he is already 28 years old and his experience in Europe isn't too big.

Also, hopefully someone (Jaime?) will be able to write a few words on Bailly. I will try to watch him in remaining Ivory Coast ACN games as well.

Bailly is a done deal. 6m euro or something.

Only seen him once, against Barcelona. He didn't play against RM in the first round. He seemed to have some good qualities. The timing of his tackles reminded me a bit of Varane. Still a bit green in that he chases the ball a lot. Only 20 though so he has plenty of time to learn.

Henrique was and is shit! Biggrin

Yeah, that was quick. But its had to be expected with Villarreal, as they usuall know what they want to do (and had funds following Gabriel sale).

I've missed Espanyol - Villarreal match in November, Bailly started there, maybe will take a look at it tomorrow.

Henrique lol!

Amazing match at Camp Nou, but in the end Barcelona was able to get away with a 3:2 win over Villarreal pale

The way guests were surging forward for counter attacks was extremely impressive though, as the fact that Marcelino didn't back down from his typical 4-4-2 line-up (even if he knew his team will be on defending mode mostly).

Messi is hitting some really hot form at the moment and Neymar isn't far behind. Rafinha was also very good today.

I almost forgot Rafinha existed! Villarreal are a good side. A shame they weren't able to sneak out of the Camp Nou with a point. I really like this Vietto kid too.

Madrid 2-0 down within 20 minutes against their little brother.

Such a day of derby upsets it seems, though, what is real's record against  Atletico these days, cant be that good.

OG Varane me thinks. Real are getting humiliated. Atletico is boss at every part of the game so far.

Well its worth to notice Madrid are missing many people, Ramos is clearly missed today.

Still, are the Atletico supporters imitating that Ronaldo shout every time he fucks up a move Laughing

Mandzukic 4-0!!

Torres finally wins a derby game at home.

Don't think it would have made much of a difference to be honest. We are just shocking. We had a little spell at the end of the first half were we started to play but that's been the only time. Athletico were even starting to show boat for much of the match they saw it wasn't even a contest.

The team hasn't been playing good since the world club cup and that silly AC Milan friendly in December. The player's and manager's comments recently suggest they are in denial of how shit they have played. For me complacency has been a major factor. There is a lack of hunger and fight.

Staying at the top is harder then reaching it, that's what separates great teams from good teams. Ronaldo today, should have been subbed, pathetic performance, couldnt be arsed to do anything since he wont that Ballon D'orr. Most of the players in that squad have won everything there is to win, so if they dont have that mentality that the Atletico do seem to have, they should be sold.
