5 games went into ET!

Only 2 of them went to pens..pure win for football. Also all QFs are groupswinners!

Imagine a semi-final vs Belgium Yikes and then a final against Germany! Im not sure atm who Holland has more rivalry with! One of the neighbours is more talented then the other though!

Still, Belgium..they were able to make the play, deBruyne(Fey-quality seal of approval right there better version of Gerrard in everything) what a game from him. But their EPL striker could only score on the counter. Why no Mirellas as central striker?

Hazard doesnt speak Dutch Erm

USA are shit. They were second best against Ghana, Germany and Belgium. They were utter shite for 105 minutes today. Glad to see them out.

The match between Belgium and Argentina will be played at 1 pm in Brasilia (hot weather, never rains there), so stamina will be a factor.

This World Cup Game Was The Biggest Moment In Twitter History

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazil's victory over Chile in an agonizing penalty shootout that sent the hosts into the World Cup quarter-finals was more frantically tweeted than the Super Bowl, the social media company said on Saturday.

Traffic reached a record pace of 388,985 tweets per minute during the game, beating the 381,605 messages per minute fired during this year's NFL final, Twitter Inc said in a statement.

The peak came when Chile missed their last penalty, propelling Brazil into the round of 16.

A total of 16.4 million tweets were sent during the match, surpassing the 12.2 million sent for the opening game in which Brazil beat Croatia 3-1. In absolute numbers the Super Bowl was, however a bigger event, with more than 24.9 million tweets.

People like to use social media to comment on what they watch on TV, making global sports events like the World Cup enormous business opportunities for companies like Twitter.

Brazil is one of Twitter’s top global markets.

I'm not really sure why people get into twitter. Facebook I understand as a way to keep in touch with friends internationally. The excess is when people post that they have just had lunch, or they are tired after a walk, or they are feeling stupid etc. Twitter seems to be just the excess, #justhadlunch #tiredafterwalk #feeelingstupid. Anyway everyone on twitter seems to be an idiot.

I also don't understand twitter.

So called Celebrities laughing their ass off, with all those fans wanting to get in touch with their idols. Its just a marketing thing for them to stay on the news, which is all what counts for those c**ts.

The real reason I have twitter is to follow the breaking football transfer news. In particular @nymiamiconnection seems to have the inside info most of the time!

I don't even think most of the accounts on twitter are real people. Consider the celebrities, reality stars etc that have millions of bought fake accounts each. Apparently Joey Essex has 2.66m followers, atleast 2.6m of them will be bought.

What do you think?

And how highly do u rate Debuchy, good enough for Arsenal?

From what i've seen Arsenal fans think he's shit and not good enough, just like Cabaye wasn't considered good enough, so I think he should go to PSG or Monaco.

He's an attacking fullback that is unlucky enough to play in a team that prefers to sit deep, but he was still probably our best player last season along with Remy(not counting Cabaye), he missed most of our horrific run of form in the 2nd half of the season so I don't give him any blame for that. He has a high work rate, good speed, and can will charge up and down the flank all day, his shooting is pretty poor and his crossing is just ok, but he is a good team player. His first 6 months here he didn't seem to have any qualities at all, but he was coming into a terrible team and he really turned it around last season.

If you want a perfect defender I would say don't buy an attacking fullback. I think Arsenal should buy a young African, the fans seem to like those.

 <Ale>

Just few more questions if u don't mind Wink

You say he's a good team player, do u mean he's good at those quick combinations we play when we are at our best?

Can he get out of tricky situations (say when pressed for example)?

What are his strengths and weaknesses defensively?

He is good at quick interchanges. His strengths defensively are he's pretty good in the air for a midget, and he's an aggressive tackler, maybe too aggressive sometimes, he can be a hot head.

His weakness is he can be caught out of position, which is normal for a player like him. He is really a wing back, as you can see when he plays for France, he likes to stay wide and get forward. He'll probably be blamed for goals sometimes.

£12m is alot for a 29 year old right back, but if you plan on winning the league the league in the next couple of years a player like this is a better choice than some kid even if he does have potential to be better. I've seen some Arsenal fans saying they'd prefer Santon, Santon is fucking shite.

Agreed, Shearer had foam on his mouth shouting about what one can achieve with teamspirit, grit and determination. Yet, the USA are lucky not to have lost that game with 7-1 or something like that! Glad Klinsi is out, every time he comes on tv, always that fucking story how he used to work in a bakery...ffs!

Also "Soccer" wont ever become big there, it's like when we care about swimming etc during the olympics.

10 - Kevin de Bruyne has created 10 chances vs #USAthe most for a player in a World Cup match since 1982 (Strachan vs New Zealand). Hot.

Soccer is not big among WASP, but it's big in USA already. This WC has beaten NBA. There isn't one single Euro coutnry that has more football players (including amateurs) than USA today.

Apparently Scolari tried three diferente formations in today's training. He is clearly lost. Once more Brazil will have to rely on luck and the "weight of the shirt" to avoid elimination.

It is big among hipster WASP's who want to support it to spite those nativists who "only" like American sports. This is quite a contrast to Europe where football is the sport of the masses. In truth football won't catch on until blacks in America start getting into it. But even then there simply isn't room enough for football yet. More likely is that America will follow Australia's example of supporting the national team big time when it comes around to the World Cup. They were in a similar place to America until the 2006 WC which kindled support for the team after their controversial loss to Italy.

*One problem will be that next World Cup's won't be played at the same time zone

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jun/12/are-the-socceroos-australias-no1-national-team

Thought America had a wonderful tournament. I'm completely in line with Alan Shearer in appreciation of the Red, White and Blue. They played a fine game but they left too much space for Belgium which can't play otherwise but looked great in such an open game. Considering that this is a team being built for the future I await 2018 with excitement.

I know about the hipsters, but you're forgetting the 50 million latinos. There are more latinos than blacks in USA now. Add to that the few millions of hipsters and hot soccer moms and you have a huge footballing population, bigger than most European countries.

Sure in terms of pure numbers then yes latinos matter but in terms of cultural significance they aren't worth anything. Nobody much cares about latino culture in America. Hipsters matter and blacks matter. Soccer moms could care less. They care about sending their children to a safe sport without too much competition. The good thing is that I'm seeing the likes of Lebron James tweeting about football so perhaps it can get the cool stamp of approval.

Super, I think you're being a bit biased here towards the WASP point of view when you say America don't care about Latino culture. The Latinos care and that's enough. They are 50 million in USA. If 50 million Wasps were football fans would that be more significant? Would that be more American? I don't think so. Wasps are not more American than Latinos in USA. They have no king and no blood right bullshit.

There was an incident during the France-Nigeria game where Debuchy was "brushed" in the face and he went down and lay there holding his face until he realised he wasn't getting a freekick, at which point he got up and chased the ref asking for a yellow card for the Nigerian. It was far worse than Mueller's going down easily and checking his face, but I am still waiting for Kimbo's indignation  Coffee
