New Administrators

Post by christmasborocooper on Tue Jun 24, 2014 9:08 pm

As I've mentioned a couple of times in the world cup thread..

Anyone want to take over the running of the board?

Offered to Puro and Fey so far but they haven't said yes yet.

I've asked the other admin guys, S4P is happy to hand it over, TS didn't respond so presumably not bothered either way, hleb the same.

I don't have the time and can't ever really be arsed so if anyone wants to put themselves forward, please do Ale

Happy to give it to whoever as long as they'll be around often enough to do stuff.

Puro has ignored every offer so far so I suspect he's not going to take it on.

You wouldn't have to do anything.

The place could do with someone who can be arsed to though. Someone with an interest in getting the place going again.

You'd be able to open the place to new users again, delete users, ban users, mod the place.. I.e delete posts, delete threads, merge threads etc.. Respond to post reports, you can make new sections, delete sections.. Everything really.

It's basically running the place as much as is possible. Only Tom has more control.

I'll do a bit of 'cleaning' up on the forum so to speak when the new administrator(s?) is sorted out, I've been meaning to change the sodding header image for the last 3 or so years but never got round to it.

Hope everyone is well.

I don't mind taking it over, financially and technically, but that will involve some big changes... happy to discuss those ideas if anyone is interested.

The idea will be to combine it with footballspeak (a site which I am now investing on, with a team of tech guys) - which will give this forum a lot of additional functionality (writing articles, customised football games, etc) and about 8000 new members instantly. Most of the forum format I would like to retain, some colour changes, updating it to the web 3.0 look and make it more compatible with mobile. These changes will be gradual, of course, and the idea is to not cause any disruption at all. Happy to discuss in more detail, if this is a direction most members would prefer.

But if you guys want to continue in a small, exclusive forum format for nostalgic reasons, then its fine as it is and I will pass.

A bluenine /Fey partnership could be something. Tom obviously would have to deal with any major changes to I the site though.

Effectively transforming the site to a mass one of 8000 members would submerge it in something completely different and entirely defeat the point, or am I missing something?

The board might be "dying", but scarcely at the moment (I can't keep up with the WC thread as it is, perhaps partly because it's all in one set of threads...), and frankly it's lost a lot of deadwood, along of course with a few valuable posters. We need new members to be allowed, but I wouldn't be able to follow a mass site in any meaningful way, or find the wheat among the chaff.

I know exactly what you mean. We have been discussing the same thing at footballspeak at design stage, and one solution we have come up with is an "exclusive members club forum", where only the quality posters are allowed. That will ensure two things, (1) keep the larger population restricted to the general forum, and (2) have a selection criteria for new posters to get "promoted", ie a constant stream of pre-qualified quality new posters joining this exclusive club.

One way to do this would be to integrate all EB posters straight into the exclusive club, and perhaps the top 200-300 Footballspeak posters out of 8000 (in terms of quality, not quantity - we already have a ratings algorithm to define that). But I am open to suggestions. I love this EB, and only want to make it better, not worse. The EB is "dying" only in the sense that it used to be a lot more fun 5 years ago than now - a lot of quality posters have left (which will always happen) and not enough new ones have joined (which is the problem). There are a lot of football forum dinosaurs out there, and it will be a real shame if EB ended up as one. We need to keep it in tune with the times, and this may be one way to do that - I am making that investment anyways.

The best way to go about this integration would be to nominate a team of 5-6 EB posters/admins to give suggestions to the integration team, and all changes are agreed with this EB team. That way, we are more likely to achieve the most satisfactory solution.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves here. First, Tom & Co need to decide whether they are keen to move in this direction. Second, i need to check with my team on the challenges of integration and get their ok. Then we need to involve the key posters here. Only then should we discuss what, how and when. So over to you, Tom & Co.

Good day, gents.

The character I created "Puro" appreciates the offered position but simply there is not enough time in the day and unfortunately I decline the offer. Thank you anyway for considering me for the position.

He is not doing that personally Puro...thats computer generated.

Anyway, glad you all voted JA for der Feyhrer!

We really could use opening registration again, cause like many things, a forum has a domino effect, just like nature. If South-Americans are grass, Spurs fans are deers who eat from the grass, and im the lion who eats deers again. Now, without grass, the deers will move away and in the end even starve the lion. And im gonna prevent that, to keep the Circle of Life moving like it did for all those years.

Agree with Allezdian about the fact we shouldnt have dont all groupstages in one thread though, bit chaotic. Oh well.

In the past we set up separate threads for each of the groups (we did this also for Champions League), however there have been so few posts in recent months that I just decided to put it in one thread not knowing how much activity there would be. The WC has sparked a revival of sorts and in retrospect, I probably would have separated it out but who knew?

Assuming that you are the only one who has agreed to take over in its current format, I am fine with that.

I would also be fine with murray, debaser or kimbo so , but they haven't put themselves forward.

Bleunine's proposal is very interesting, but as mentioned that is up to Tom

kingyou're very kind. I wouldn't mind being a moderator if more are needed (is there actually a difference between mod & admin here?), don't really want to be in charge!

bluenine's suggestion is interesting, but I'm not sure this forum could exist within another site without it becoming something else entirely.
