France tried the route one tactic against our high line, as expected, but our defenders handled them pretty well, at least most of the time. If not, there is always Neuer.

France never tried anything at all....and Germany neither (but you can't blame them if you're 1-0 up).

the game was meh, neuer made a good save at the end, france had a few route one chances, germany should have finished it in the end.

Muller was excellent as always

Good to have no extra time again. After the 1-0 it was the "waiting for France game".

Boring match for the neutrals, but I thought it was tactical and good.

Excited for the semis already. I like being the first game. Now i can enjoy the other games much more!

Remember that our team played 120 minutes in the 1/8 finals, while France played 90 and benched most of their players in the last group match before. That was clearly a factor also.

Dutch tv showing 100 or so unforced French errors...they were *extremely* poor this match

Germany looking boring might indeed be a good sign for them.

Nontheless, the knock-out stages are a bit more normal compared to the groupstages. Only some late goal drama, but Bra-Chi was good and so was Usa-Bel, football wise. Hope more from Colombia-Brazil. Colombia were so good, that it never was a match against them Urus last game....and we see James again. My Clasie surrogate.

The hilarious thing is that Germany didn't score from a set piece for years, because we sucked at them as we never trained them, thanks to Löw who thought it not to be necessary. In this WC, his assistant Flick won the argument so we trained them for the first time under Löw and scored 4(!) goals from a set piece already.

I wanted that for years actually. Set pieces are so easy to decide games. More important in knockout tournaments. I wonder how you can train every day without train standard situations  Erm

Fair play to France and especially Deschamps, a true sportsman. <Ale>

A very fair game, no theatrics and dirty fouls as far as I could see. I was a bit annoyed by the neverending 1982 references in the media in the last few days, particularly the English media, as if any of the current players were even born yet back then (bar Klose and Evra).

Brazil: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Marcelo; Paulinho, Fernandinho; Hulk, Oscar, Neymar; Fred

Colombia: Ospina; Zuniga, Zapata, Yepes, Armero; Cuadrado, Sanchez, Guarin, Rodriguez; Ibarbo, Gutierrez

Dani Alves dropped for Maicon, Columbia are going to be all over him.

I expect Brazil - Colombia to be great game. Colombia has looked good all tournament, but they never had to chase a game. We still don't know if they can come back mentally and tactically from a goal down - particularly when they can't counterattack.

I expect the team that score first to win. If Colombia score first Brazil are in world of hurt against Colombia's countering. Brazil can score first too, but still have Fred.

yeah they could've done with Cabaye pushing forward into some shooting positions sometimes.

 <Ale>

cabaye is no deep-lying playmaker, would have been better in his more natural kevin nolan role Wink

Still the French don't hate their national team any more, and that's probably the end of evra, so good news all round
