Argentina vs Holland.

The QF in 1998 was brilliant.

Hope to see you in the final, how brilliant would that be ? Ale

That would be epic. <Ale>

But first thing's first, Brazil are going to be a huge challenge, for various reasons. Unless your team is not totally knackered because of the 120 minutes today, i expect you to knock Argentina out.

Once you get a bee in your bonnet about something you are relentless.

No one said there hasn't been big games; my quibble was about the lack of entertainment and goals in the knock out stages. France vs Germany was a big game but dull as fuck for example.

The semis are both massive games with massive nations but could be very dull - I hope not.

How do you figure?

Costa Rica is exactly the sort of side they would struggle against. Notice how Iran and Switzerland stifled them easily. Costa Rica is even better both defensive and offensively which is where both those sides were weak. If this game had continued another 10 mins with Holland playing 2 at the back I think Costa Rica would have won. Van Gaal was probably right in the end to be scared of them.

Costa Rica was not beaten in regular time at this WC  cheers

Well they were wrong.

My point was about a lack of entertainment and shocks - none of the underdogs managed to win; Costa Rica lasted the longest so fair play to them. I like to see big games but if they're going to be like France vs Germany then I'd rather see a lesser Nation against a big one if it's more entertaining.

This is the WC. In the latter stages, there are almost never any "shocks".

Which is what I said from the beginning. But for some reason, some people on here want surprises, entertainment and only big teams to get through. Fucking nutcases.

I just want entertainment

I still think Oranje in the semis is kind of a shock...we didn't even expect to get out the group ffs !

and I still think Van Gaal's starting tactics were dead wrong.

Van Gaal improves Holland ten fold. I expected Holland to get out of the group and get a result vs. Spain, albeit not such an epic one, of course. Yes, they may lack experience and quality in certain areas, but nothing is as important as a good strategy and execution.

Yes, Holland can win the WC.

well I just think it would've been a game too far for Costa Rica. getting to SF would've been victory beyond their wildest dreams and I'm not sure they'd have enough left to repeat the performance (also rode their luck a fair bit vs Dutch)

Ok I get what you're saying. Otherwise I actually think they easily pull an upset on Argentina given their past record against similar teams. Also they have played 60 mins extra after the group stages not to mention a mentally draining shoot out. So probably better with Holland. Hoping one of the two will be a cracker at least.

I suspect Argentina have learned the lesson today from this game and won't give Holland too much space. Brazil vs Germany will be a better fit.

No, Im just still bitter that Schweinsteiger and co managed to fuck up the only penalty shoot out inwhich I was supporting the Germans.

I would actually love to see the mettle of this German team at penalties this World Cup. Really feel that the likes of özil, kroos and co. are vulnerable to the heebie jeebies unlike the Germans of old.
