It might be, mostly unnecessary. But if we lose Di Maria, that is 18 assists in the league last season. We will need some creativity in midfield.

It wasn't a direct player comparison, more so an example of buying a player after a good tournament performance and him failing to live up to the hype.

Rodriguez is clearly an accomplished player having proven himself in the Portuguese and French leagues Laughing

Here is an interesting article:

Now would be a good time to buy players who are normally good, but had a bad tournament.

Yes, his price should be lower now than before the world cup, same with baines, cassilas, hulk etc.

Apparently it was the perfect time to buy Keylor Navas. The club has just paid his buyout clause of 10m. It looks as though both Casillas and Diego López will leave the club.
The rumour is the club are also going to pay the buyout for Kiko Casilla (ex-Castilla) from Espanyol to be the second GK.

Diego López to Napoli and Casillas to Arsenal seem to be the two rumours at the moment.

Let's hope the trend continues...

1974 Günter Netzer, Paul Breitner -> Spanish League & Copa del Rey
1977 Ulrich Stielike -> Spanish League
1988 Bernd Schuster -> Spanish League, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup
1996 Bodo Illgner -> Spanish League
1997 Jupp Keynckes -> Champions League
2007 Christoph Metzelder, Bernd Schuster -> Spanish League
2010 Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil -> Copa del Rey
2014 Toni Kroos -> ?????

Can never go wrong with them, eh? Very Happy

I think that Kroos could do really well for Madrid, if used correctly. A three man midfield of Modric on the #6, an athletic midfielder similar to Khedira (Wink ) and Kroos on the (withdrawn) #10 could be very balanced and difficult to beat, similar to the WC winning one of Germany (Schweini in the Modric role, Khedira and Kroos being themselves). If you have a better passer as an alternative to Khedira, even better, provided he has the other attributes, too.

There is a reason why Khedira is a darling of every coach he worked with. There are better footballers out there, but his attitude, bite and tactical understanding are an asset to have. I think he'll do well for Arsenal.

I was the last fan of Khedira probably but partly his performances are simply down to not being used right. He performed pretty well with Schweini in a two man midfield at the World Cup in 2010 but aside from that he should play in a 3 man midfield where he is allowed to put pressure and go make his good deep runs.  However we were not as well set up for him. He was too withdrawn and his technical shortcomings are too obvious against good teams and in Spain in general. Plus we have had Ronaldo, Di Maria who aren't players who retain the ball well to compensate for somebody like Khedira. Not sure if Arsenal is the place for him though but we will see how Wenger uses him.

Even though I don't really care for the pink trim (much less the all pink away kit!) I do like the font on this years kit.

Out of curiosity, if you had to rate Kroos, Thiago, Goetze and Muller, what order would you put them in?

Didn't understand the signing of Thiago at the time, and still don't. Small criticisms of Kroos' game can be made - he doesn't dominate the game as much as someone with his technique and touch should, but he's still young. Xavi didn't have that understanding of the game when he was Kroos' age.

And there's no one i'm more scared of if the ball breaks to them 20 yards from goal.

i don`t rate thiago at all

he hasn`t played a single IMPORTANT game in his life, maybe it changes when he finally starts to deliver, in my opinion he is still 19 years old when i look at his development

also he has more done in the last third of the field, and not in the middle of the park, and for the last third we have already götze

götze is a wondeful player in the right system, the problem is he has no position in peps 4-3-3

it`s like playing özil on the wings for germany, it`s simply not the same when you have a player like reus in his position, it`s the same with götze and bayern

One thing that hasn't been considered following Kroos' arrival is Isco's place in the squad!

It will be interesting to see how Carlo experiments during pre-season.

James Rodriguez is the competition of Isco. Kroos' competition are Modric, Alonso and the likes, although you need a few of them playing at the same time, of course. He can play on all positions in midfield, that's his advantage.

Kroos is Kroos

XAVI IS XAVi

Z German produce a player with god technique and are bursting at the seams, watch him not look as good in a league where technical players are a dime a dozen.

I await the 7-0 comments

Someone was saying it in one of the other threads but it's impossible to compare Xavi in his absolute best moment which is 2008 with Kroos now (4 years younger). At Kroos' age Xavi was not even a regular in the Spain team (and a very mediocre Spain team at that) and playing in a Barcelona team that finished 6th in la liga. I think Kroos at 24 has already surpassed Xavi at 24 having been an integral part of a WC and CL winning side.

Nah kroos has achieved more, because he is playing for a better teams

Kroos better than Xavi at 24, NOOOOOOO
Xavi was better than kroos at 20, at 20 Xavi was helping Barcelona to a league tittle, where was kroos on Loan?

But lets say he is(he is not), does that mean he will be better than him at 28?.

this who is better than who at age whatever doesn't make any sense

Bojan was better than Villa at 19, So what

Kroos is kroos a very good player

XAVI IS XAVI, Kroos will never ever be as good as XAVI, Kroos WILL score more goals than XAVI

Never been Big on kroos

I prefer

Rues(love him)
Gotze
Bastian
Gundogan

you'll will see kroos ain't that special, He makes some tidy passes, he doesn't dominate games.

I Mean pep rejected him, if its one thing Pep knows its his midfielders.
 Very Happy

Thiago>Kroos  cheers
