Excuse me, do we even know when that video was made? For all we know it could have been in the wake of the Champions League victory. In any case it is the very definition of #bantz and has absolutely fuck-all to do with the captaincy issue, I would be surprised and a little disappointed if every player didn't occasionally indulge in similar. (Although this kind of thing makes me realize that no player should dare do anything that isn't in the most private of private circles...)

It makes me depressed and a little angry to see signs of the entirely fake "Betroffenheitskultur" being at least as bad as, if not worse than it is in England. (EVERYONE knows this song and every fan sings its equivalent – if a non-Bayern player were to sing "Zieht den Bayern..." would we say the same?! – and to see people saying with an apparently straight face "how dare he say that about our mothers" Laugh – not sure if serious!!)

I'm about as pro-Dortmund and anti-Bayern as a fan of neither club is likely to be but seriously, we've already had the perfect son-in-law as captain. There are some good reasons to be opposed to Basti as an automatic choice but really, this Daily Mail nonsense is not one of them.

I wasn't trying to have a go at you on the Löw issue Blut, I realize you've already given him credit, although the strength of your opposition and heavy criticism was pretty considerable, particularly at the stage I mentioned – it was obviously meant in the nicest of possible ways Smile As a sports fan one of the best feelings of all can be to be proved completely wrong, as a lot of us have now been reminded.

Great stuff from Selke and the U19s, caught most of Friday's game, might not be able to see today's so let's hope they make the final.

We do know when it was made. It was made two days after the WC final. Schweinsteiger is refering to the WC final actually, saying that he "learned to fight" here (means in München), while starting the chants afterwards.

The timing in particular is what makes it a Germany issue. If it had been after the CL or Pokal final, nobody would have cared. This has nothing to do with "Betroffenheitskultur" or other nonsense, it's a pretty straightforward issue. The NT clearly suffered from the frictions between the Bayern and Dortmund players in 2012, the last thing we need now is a captain who stirrs up the shit again.

Besides, Schweinsteiger is close to 30, injury prone and has missed a ton of friendlies because of that. He'll likely resign from the NT after Euro 2016, so giving him the captaincy would be a temporary solution anyway.

http://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/davie-selke-von-werder-bremen-bei-u19-europameisterschaft-a-983030.html

I really think that he is more than decent technically. Not the smoothest first touch out there, of course, but still pretty decent. Comparing him to Gomez at his age, for example, he is far more accomplished already and can still work on that. Hope he manages to make that final crucial step to first team football, as I mentioned earlier. Many promising prospects failed at that.

Selke with yet another, looks like it's another final...

-----------------------------

Well this is what the Borussia had to say, I think it's rather well put. I'd think it's a very great shame if anything more than strictly necessary were made out of private banter.

Lieber Bastian Schweinsteiger,
Borussia Dortmund
P.S.: Aus schräg kann man gerade machen. Wenn Du mal Gesangsunterricht brauchst, sag‘ einfach Bescheid. Wir helfen wirklich immer gern.

for once

allez is right about something

the Schweini video is blown out of all proportion

even if it is kinda weird

our idiotic Gutmenschen-hacks were even more furious about the alleged anti-Gaucho dance

 Very Happy

preposterous really

the new captain should still be Schweini

alternatively, Hummels

problem being that Hummels is clearly not an automatic starter under Löw

the Bundescremer has a BIGGER crush on Boateng and Badstuber

Hummels is not even a member of the players council (Merte, though, IS )

Neuer is simply not captain material; WAY too quiet OFF the pitch , even quieter and more boring than Lahm

Müller would be hilarious  Very Happy

Dortmund's reaction was classy, as was Großkreutz'. Again, I couldn't care less if Schweinsteiger did it during the season, or after a match against Dortmund etc. It's of course rather harmless banter and chants like that are sung everywhere.

However, I don't understand why Schweinsteiger had to sing that just two days after the WC, a title he had won together with his Dortmund team mates. That's pretty stupid IMHO and nothing a captain should do.

Großkreutz was almost kicked out of the team for throwing a Döner and pissing in the hotel lobby. It's funny, sure, but you wouldn't consider Großkreutz to be captain material now would you?

Our U19 won the semis in very convincing fashion, thrashing a pretty good Austria side 4-0. Selke with another goal,  Stendera, Öztunali and Mukhtar with one goal each. Stendera in particular looks really good, Frankfurt have quite a talent coming through there.

U19-Europameisterschaft: 4:0 gegen Österreich - Deutschland steht im Finale

Endspiel!

agree

it's weird

they've just won the World Cup

you would have thought that the title is more on his mind than Dortmund

 Very Happy

the truth probably is, Schweini did not want to give a speech

and he knew that the best way to get the Munich bar public going would be to start a song everybody knew and liked

still

neither Ballack nor Lahm would have done this, me thinks

anyway, who cares, we are getting way too upset about trivial things like this

let boys be boys

Kevin's reaction was ace

maybe HE should be the next captain

Highlights of the U19 Euro semi final match vs. Austria:

http://tv.dfb.de/video/highlights-em-halbfinale-deutschland-vs-oesterreich/9147/

The strength in depth of this age group is truly impressive. Unbeaten for 16 matches, knocked out Spain at home during qualification (3-1). The team had just one day of preparation before the tournament started. Meyer, Goretzka, Werner and Gnabry not even playing in this tournament, a pity really, as having this tournament experience will surely help their development. And if they win the title, it will improve their standing at their clubs. Even more so than in 2008, the last time when Germany won the title in this age group (Bender twins, Zieler and the likes featuring), I can see quite a few of these youngsters becoming senior internationals and enjoying a pretty successful professional career.

Portugal have been pretty impressive in this tournament as well, quite a lot of promising players in their ranks. Should be a good final.

Thomas Tuchel is not going to be Löw's new assistant according to his agent:

http://www.sky.de/web/cms/de/wm-2014-tuchel-sagt-dfb-ab.jsp

A pity really, would have been a very good choice. He could have been the assistant for two years, get some experience on the international level and then take over from Löw afterwards. Would have been my choice.

Yeah, Hansen is something else. Had seen that already, wish they'd show it here on national TV...

The best he pulled off was in 2010 though, before, during and after the match in Bloemfontein, still have to laugh watching it. A pity he retired though, always a source of joy... Smile

Great memories indeed. I think that's what Kroos / Deisler had in mind when he created his DOMINATION HUMILIATION tick...

Frank Wormuth, who runs the DFB coach training program and coaches the U20 himself, is likely going to be Löw's new assistant. Tactically, he is quite astute, obviously, so he should be a good choice. What I like about him is his ability to think outside of the box.

For instance, his new idea of intentionally misplacing passes in certain situations to create opportunities for effective (Dortmund-like) counter-pressing to overwhelm the opposition, as massive defensive blocks / parking the bus tactics these days make it almost impossible for attacking teams to get through by 'traditional' means.

http://sportbild.bild.de/fussball/2014/fussball/irre-wm-analyse-kommt-der-geplante-fehlpass-37030640.sport.html

Pretty wild stuff, but that's what we need. Tactical innovations and thinking outside of the box, not just copying what is en vogue. If we want to stay on top, we have to continue to be cutting edge tactically, both in the league and national team(s).

 lol!

2010 , before the Germany-England game, Alan Hansen : " if you look at 2002, I thought the worst German side in history did really well, 2006, average, they continue and continue to defy the odds, THIS team is average as well, it might as well end here"

 lol!

what a LEGEND Hansen was

you cannot make this up

EVERY German side is AVERAGE

they always defy THE ODDS

 Biggrin

Shearer has REALLY grown and learnt compared to 2014 though

-----------

just trawled through one or two other videos related to Germany and the BBC

had completely forgotten about Germany beating Holland in 2012

with those two Gomez beauties

 Yikes cheers

kinda reminded me of the depth Germany have these days

we basically now have THREE complete teams that could contend for titles

 Shocked

just take the players that did not even make the trip to Brazil

Reus, Gündogan, the Benders, Gomez, ter Stegen...

bernd would now add Holtby to the mix

fuck

those guys would reach the Semis pretty much automatically as well

DOMINATION/HUMILIATION

me thinks

Check out Hansen's comments on the Argentina - Germany 1/4 final match of 2010, too, while you're at it. He continues to call Germany 'average', that's after the England match. Smile
Even in the post match comments, when it's clear that Argentina had gotten spanked 4-0, he just can't give those bloody Krauts credit. It gets hilarious when Shearer reminds him that eight goals scored in two knock-out matches probably aren't coincidence...

Ah, I'll miss him... Smile

P.S.: Gomez seems to be in good form for Fiorentina in the pre-season preparation. If he can stay injury free and find those goal scoring boots again, he may get a chance in the NT. He was sad not to have been part of the team this summer, that may motivate him. Too early to write him off.

Will check those later, though remember the 2010 ones with pleasure – I recall a moment towards the end of the post-match of the England game where Lee Dixon ventures to ask "but we look at Özil and I have to ask myself, do we have a player like that in England?" and the question is met with – silence. Just deafening silence for a few seconds before the subject is changed... Very Happy

(Haven't seen the Brazil one yet, but Hansen describing himself as "distraught" by Brazil's capitulation has to be the nadir, the absolute cringeworthy low point and logical conclusion of all the hopelessly misguided Anglo mythologizing that's been so wrongheaded for over two decades...)

Even in the final Shearer as well as Hansen (apart from the latter's painfully grudging "hardworking, efficient" tosh) were going with Argentina with this whole "this is Messi's moment" bullshit, Rio again being the one to see sense – Shearer might have improved (not sure he was ever really guilty of talking bollocks, more having little insight or analysis to contribute), but even he was sucked into this "myth of the individual" obsession...

Though don't get me started on the repeated "Germany don't have stars, the team is the star" twaddle...

Yes, that was pretty awful. Seems to lack in the social competence department.

The interesting thing for me in 2010 was how everyone in England seemed to go on about Özil and his brilliance after the 1/8 finals, while back then at least, nobody there seemed to have understood the genius and importance of Müller, who actually was Germany's best and most consistent player in that tournament (and this WC). Only later, after his performances with Bayern, the media in England discovered the 'Raumdeuter', Barney Ronay for the Guardian being one of the first. In Germany however, Müller was the star of the team.

Half time in Budapest, our U19 team leading 1-0 in the Euro final vs. Portugal, Mukhtar with the goal. Totally dominant performance, should have scored more, while not allowing Portugal many, if any, chances.

Stendera again looking quality with another assist. Kimmich looks like a beast, too, very similar to a young Lahm who used to play in midfield, too.

Brandt's having a terrible game.. really impressed with the CBs, though, for that age; you can tell what a difference playing regularly in the Bundesliga makes as opposed to playing with whatever club youth teams all the time, especially in Nic Stark's case.

Totally deserved win, clearly the better team over 90 minutes. Again, as I wrote earlier, I can see quite a few of these players having a successful career, some of them have the talent to become senior internationals. Even more so than in 2008, the last time we won the Euros in this age group. Strength in depth of this generation is impressive, considering that a number of the most promising talents weren't even playing in this tournament.

Even if they don't make it to the senior NT, the Bundesliga will definitely benefit from this title, as will the players, of course. It's a very good sign to see this success on the youth level so shortly after the WC win.

Davie Selke is the top scorer of the tournament cheers

I take it the world cup winning party is winding down, now that you're at the point of posting Ian Wright opinion videos.

The best thing about this U19 Euro title is that the vast majority of players are not from the top Bundesliga clubs. No Bayern player, the only Dortmund player had to leave the tournament, and two Schalke players who hardly played (although Meyer and Goretzka would have, of course, but Schalke didn't let them). This is good for the league, it's actually a win for the league.
