18 teams would be a great start...20 is too much for Italy.

I have been saying this for years... 16-18 clubs is ideal for Serie A (and all leagues in Europe). In Italy, clubs also need to own their stadiums, so some laws need reform. Unfortunately the red tape is killing the beautiful game...

anyways, back to the game. It was quite entertaining, something we don't associate with Inter games anymore. I trust in Mancio, he will get back some of that intensity and directness that brought us so much success not too long ago.

I liked what I saw from Inter tonight, despite the result. There was progress in 3 specific areas:

1. Intensity: There was so much intensity and energy about Inter today - we were fighting for every ball, and that is always good to see. I haven't seen this much intensity from Inter in the last 4 years.

2. Purpose: More one touch passing, trying to convert possession quickly into an attack. The intent from Mancio was clear - more direct football. This will take time to perfect, but the players were trying (except perhaps Kova), and this is where we will see the biggest change from the Mazzarri era.

3. Organisation: In 5 days of training, our defense looked far more organised with 2 CBs than it EVER did with 3. Whoever thought Juan + Rano could form a decent partnership?! Yes, there were mistakes, but those were mostly caused when Rano tried to cover for out of position Nagatomo, etc. This perfromance was even more impressive given the fact that we were playing without any natural DM cover. When Medel and M'Vila are fit, our defense could improve further.

Combine the above 3 points with the fact that we have moved to a more dynamic 4 man defense, and also did not try to bore the hell out of everyone a la Mazzarri, Mancio has done more than I expected out of him in a week.

Another point here - some people seriously underestimate this Milan. Inzaghi has been doing some solid work there and the movement of their strikers (Honda, Menez and SES) has been quite menacing this season, giving the opposition few points of reference. IMO Milan have one of the best attacks in the league, so our midfield's intensity and the organisation of our defense deserves some credit.

I can't wait to see this Inter grow, specially when we have Medel back and Osvaldo, Hernanes & M'Vila fit to start. For the first time, I am starting to believe that we can actually challenge Napoli & Milan for that 3rd spot this season. These games against Milan and Roma (next week) are not the key ones - its the games against the smaller clubs which will tell whether Mancio's work is paying off. Can't wait to find out!

Grazie Mancio for making me believe in Inter again.

Probably so.

The Eredivisie should have at most 14 teams: every season you see two teams which are clearly shite destined for relegation and six more which are hopeless. So that leaves a league with only 12 but 12 is too few teams so we pardon 2 teams bringing the new and improved Eredivisie. <Ale>

Best would be 16 with 8 from Holland and 8 from Belgium or 10-6..something like that. But yeah, 18 for Holland is too much as well.

Personally, I am glad some of the so-called big names have left Italy... players like Kaka, Robinho, etc are big in name only and do nothing for the league anymore.

There is still a lot of talent in Serie A, but because the top Italian sides are not doing well in CL, these names are not "big" yet... players like Cuadrado, Pogba, Vidal, Kovacic, Florenzi, Di Sciglio, Dybala, Lulic, etc is where Serie A's strength lies. What is stopping Serie A is the system issues, the red tape, the archaic laws. Without reforms, most of this talent will leave Italy rather than build their career here, and Serie A will become like Ligue 1 or Eredivisie.

Juve are actually a very competent squad which is underperforming in Europe. If they get their act together, they can compete with the best...

If Mancini doesn't work out:

Simeone wants to coach Inter after Atletico, reveals son
The River Plate youngster has suggested his father could return to his former club once his time at the Vicente Calderon is over

Diego Simeone's son Giovanni has revealed the Atletico Madrid coach wants to take charge of Inter after completing his work in Spain.

Simeone has been linked with a number of high-profile positions as a result of his success in Spain, which saw him win La Liga with Atleti last season.

The 44-year-old enjoyed a successful spell at Inter between 1997 and 1999, where he won the Uefa Cup during his time at San Siro, and his son says he still has strong feelings for the club.

"My father could go back to Italy, to Inter. He holds the club in his heart and he loves them," Simeone junior told La Gazzetta dello Sport. When he's finished at Atletico, he could go back to Inter.

"Right now he's happy in Madrid but he has a special sentiment for all his former clubs."

Simeone has been in charge of Atleti since December 2011, winning the Europa League in 2011-12, Copa del Rey in 2012-13, as well as lifting the Spanish and European Supercup prior to last season's title success.

The Argentine has a contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2017.

New Milan stadium which is very ugly and far too small with only 48000 seats.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Mancini till 2017, he is good at building teams. After that Simeone, hopefully he will win us a few trophies.
