Changes to format of FA Cup

Post by shizzle787 on Wed Apr 29, 2015 9:37 pm

A) No replays: they cut down on the possibility of minnows advancing.

B) Weaker team home: the FA Cup should be about upsets, and giving weaker sides home-field advantage, helps facilitate upsets.

C) Add teams from the 11th level (hopefully so that there are more than 1024 teams in competition: I'll get back to this).

D) Get rid of league cup (it's meaningless and larger clubs only play reserve sides anyway).

E) Make the tournament true golden goal (no penalties): if tied after 90 minutes, teams play until one scores.

F) Enter Premier League clubs (and everyone else) into Round of 1024. If more than 1024 teams, have weaker teams play in one

qualifying round to get number to 1024. Every club would play 10 (or 11 if starting in qualifying) matches to win trophy.

G) Start the competition in September so that big clubs play in cup all season long.

H) Grant both winner and runner-up entrance to the Europa League.

If you adopted A and B you would remove the possibility of small clubs getting to play at big club's stadiums which is a huge deal for them, both financial and in the way that playing at somewhere like an field or old Trafford can be career highlight for players at low level.

Upsets keep the tournament interesting but it shouldn't be built around them

The idea of robbing the minnows of their day out at a big stadium is the absolute shits

Forget about B and E, but I personally like the rest of them.

Give it a CL spot, and look how many sides will take it serious! Wenger would be relieved, a season would last a few matches for him!
