Is Gerrard really a centre midfielder Question

Rafa these days usually plays him out on the right with Alonso and Sissoko in the centre. A partnership that works for Liverpool.

Cesc is quality but it is not his time yet to be so far up on these lists. Lampard is still a great player and should be there.

Hammil or Guthrie? Though Roque, Antwi and Hobbs can all play there. Peltier too Razz

S'been done before. It's been Xabi and Essien. But Ballack will probably be better than both when he adapts fully. If he's given the freedom he deserves, that is.

Lampard gets massively overlooked because of his England form. He's not necessarily the best, but there are still few better than him.

He's never been a central Midfielder though. An attacking one - not a playmaker, just a goalscorer. But he's damn good at that.

    ok

It's just if you're going to include Gerrard (who's not really a central midfielder either - even if he may be a playmaker), I think it's fair to include Frank Ale

One of the ways to get people to stand up and take notice is if Scotland played England.

Fletcher vs Hargreaves and Lampard should be a peice of cake. ok

Did you watch the Scotland game on Saturday Parky? I was forced to - I was down in London visiting a friend and the pub I was in had a table of Scots and a table of French and they were insistent, so I saw the whole game and both tables were bloody noisy. Funny, but noisy. Every time the ball went near either penalty area they started screaming.

Fletcher played very well. He does seem to do better for Scotland than for Man U...

I saw extended highlights. He looked very good, more so doing the ugly side of the game, chasing down, tackling etc.

Bet you liked that chance Henry missed at the death...Very Happy

It was like a pass back.

From my perspective he was Scotland's main playmaker, but he had to do a lot of harrying because that's how Scotland set themselves up to try and win the game.

Ha! He actually played pretty well, probably France's most dangerous player.

It was like a pass back.

The game at Old Trafford three weeks ago settled this one. ok

Fletcher plays on the right for Scotland and Vieira central for France so they are not a direct comparison.

Barry Ferguson > Patrick Vieira would be correct, even though we both know this is not true.

    spank is obviously only joking...

scotland put in an embaressing display in the first half football wise... no one in their right mind would argue that two midfielders (fletcher, ferguson) who couldn't get near the ball were better than a player (vieira) whose team totally dominated proceedings and possession of the ball.
