Best Italian Strikers, the Top 30!

Post by bluenine on Sun Mar 25, 2007 9:08 pm

We had a vote last month on the best Italian strikers at the moment, with people ranking 25 of the top 50 strikers in Italy. The results were pretty interesting, IMO also show how people forget the past so quickly these days....

The top 30 Italian strikers (in order) included:

    1 Totti Roma
    2 Toni Fiorentina
    3 Iaquinta Udinese
    4 Del Piero Juventus
    5 Amauri Palermo
    6 Gilardino Milan
    7 Rocchi Lazio
    8 Quagliarella Sampdoria
    9 Lucarelli Livorno
    10 Rosina Torino
    11 Montella Roma
    12 Tavano Roma
    13 Bianchi Reggina
    14 Esposito Cagliari
    15 Di Natale Udinese
    16 Cassano Real
    17 Vieri Atalanta
    18 Di Michele Palermo
    19 Miccoli Benfica
    20 Inzaghi Milan
    21 Palladino Juventus
    22 Di Vaio Genoa
    23 Rigano' Messina
    24 Rossi Parma
    25 Flachi Sampdoria
    26 Delvecchio Ascoli
    27 Pelle' Cesena
    28 Caracciolo Palermo
    29 Bellucci Bologna
    30 Spinesi Catania

What I found shocking was the the likes of Ventola, Bazzani, Bonazzoli, Lupoli, Maccarone, Amoruso, Bucchi, etc who were included in the vote did not even make the top 30!

Also felt that people were a bit too rough on Vieri, Inzaghi, & Rigano. Also shows that Italy have a lot of depth, one bad season (Tavano, Esposito, Cassano) and you really fall down the pecking order!! Now I appreciate how tough a job Donadoni has - he has to pick 6 out of these!!!

It says a lot for Italian strikers when the one sitting 13th has 15 goals in the league this season when the most an English player has is 11 (Rooney)

    Bonazzoli >>> Caracciolo IMO ok

But I must add, Bonazzoli never lived up to his promise, neither did Ventola.

I think Rossi got a lot of "wishful" votes, coz he was a very hyped prodigy in Italy even before he left for ManU. Everyone loves a prodigy ever since the Roberto Baggio story (or Pele, that was the best one).

I like both...Caracciolo would be welcome at Samp if he leaves Palermo as expected.

Bonazzoli done great in his first season for us until his leg break...

Suprised Pazzini didnt make the top 30 he has done really well over the last couple of years (yesterday's hat-trick only highlights it) and i think he edges Bellucci and Pelle etc.

I agree. Corradi was 32, behind Ventola. I had voted for both in my 25, tho Corradi has been a disappointment ever since he left Lazio.

Pazzini didn't make my top 25, would be yours?? And Pelle has been a revelation in Serie B this season, I would put him above Pazzini

    32nd is better than i expected !

Pazzini i thought would be between 25th and 30th in mine, i agree Pelle has done very well but it is aclose call between him and Pazzini.

Bellucci is having another good season for Bologna, his free kick today puts him right on Del Piero's tail for Serie B capocaniere and i can see why he made it into the top 30.

Don't blame ya... Corradi has been shit for you guys... I don't know what happened to him, he looked a bit promising before he left Lazio for Valencia. I think people still rate him from his Lazio days.

Obinna Nsofor of Chievo - who is he and why (ie. what are his good or bad footballing attributes) is he being linked to us by the Italian press?

I really like Obinna, he is a young (18 or 19) Nigerian striker, part owned by Inter. He is very very fast, similar player to Obi Martins (he also does millions of somersaults when he scores) he can cause the opposition lots of problems, yet he has never really been prolific for Chievo, still he is very young and hasgreat potential.

Obinna is talented, very talented, and cuyrrently gaining experience at Chievo.

He is half owned by Inter, we are waiting for him to grow worthy of a recall into the Inter squad.... stop chasing our youngsters! Unless you wanna swap him with Messi Wink

    Thanks guys.

No thanks bluenine, we're looking for a readymade backup to Etoo this summer, not someone so young with just potential at the moment. We already have Bojan for that role Smile

In fact, one of my personal favourites for the job is Crespo, because I don't think it would be too expensive to prise him away from Inter, and I think he'd settle quickly in La Liga. He's a bit old, but certainly has the quality.

Crespo is owned by Chelsea, not Inter. And yeah, i doubt Inter will make a big offer for Crespo, specially since we might be going after Toni this summer. Unless mancio has his way, and Inter sell Adriano.

Hey, how about a Adriano - Messi swap?? We will throw in Samuel and Recoba in to sweeten the deal for ya Wink

Depends on who Messi was supposed to replace. If its Figo, then I would love to have Mancini. If Roma don't let him go, then Quaresma.

If Messi was to replace Adriano (who is likely to be thrown out), then I would like to see Toni or Klose.
