    Liverpool seeking revised stadium proposal

Post by Tweesus on Wed Mar 28, 2007 6:03 pm

I told you it would happen...

The new owners want to resubmit the original application with a much higher capacity, thing is, the Council want the scheme to be a grounshare with Everton if they go for a higher capacity.

There's no figures but I'd expect 75,000 to be the new submitted capacity - significantly higher than before and in line with Old Trafford's new capacity.

What are your views? should they be forced to go for a groundshare if the new application is granted?

If Liverpool want to groundshare then yes they should, but why should they help out Everton? they have new investment and don't need any funding off Everton for a new stadium

Thats true, though Liverpool Council could force them to groundshare if the deemed it neccessary; although I suspect that Liverpool Council would more likely go for other contributions from Liverpool FC, specifically transport improvements

I think this is a case of 'please let us share you're stadium and income otherwise we will never keep up with the top teams' from Everton, lets face it why do Everton need a 75,000 stadium capacity? it's not as though they would sell it out every week and they don't often compete in European competition so there won't be any added income there, I can see why it could make sense to some Everton fans but IMO this will not happen and Everton will have to find some other solution

    @ berby

True, its not as though they're Milan and Juventus or Roma and Lazio.

They'd probably only break 50,000 for about 1/3 of their games per season.

Thats what I think Tweeds. ok

If Liverpool want their own stadium on Stanley Park I think the council will impose themselves heavily and ask for numerous services and improvements to be made around the area, under Section 106.

I find it hard to believe that both fans will want to share a ground and this will no doubt be a huge factor in the outcome.

Aye, in principle I think going for the bigger stadium capaciy makes sense.

For us we were going from 38k to 60k so an increase of 22,000, whereas Pool are going from 44k to 60k - just 16,000 - I also think that they'd probably fill a 70,000+ stadium

They would fill that for sure, with lots of room to spare as well. We are regulary full at the Emirates despite the very high prices that are charged.

Liverpool fans will want to have a say in the design as well I'm sure. The will want a Kop style stand that is traditional and steep, like Dortmunds Westenstadion. Not like a continental bowl we have.

What on Earth are you talking about, Liverpool don't want a groundshare, Everton don't want a groundshare, this isn't about Everton trying to manipulate their way into a new stadium, it is the council making those suggestions a completely different body from the two football clubs Doh

This has nothing to do with Everton, it is the councils reasoning.

The reason the council are suggesting the groundshare is because both clubs have a view to building a new stadium.

'And Bradley, a Blues season-ticket holder, feels Hicks and Gillette could be persuaded to allow Everton to share the new ground'

From the BBC, the council are under pressure from Evertonians and people with authority from Everton FG

trust me FG, I know a lot of Blues who are all for this idea, some of them are so deluded that they think Liverpool rejection of this idea is 'arrogant'..

Bradley is the head of Liverpool Council I seem to remember that article saying, so its not as though its just 'one season ticket holder'; this guy has some power.

Being honest though, I think there's no chance of a groundshare, good news for you guys that Hicks wants a bigger stadium though ok

In Arsenal's case 60,000 is sufficient as we charge higher ticket prices and have tonnes of boxes, in your case to compete with us and Utd in terms of matchday revenue then ideally you needed the extra 10,000+ seats

lol! Imagine Everton playing in a 75'000 seater, they'd have about 30'000 empty seats most games. ok

Agreed. Why should Liverpool be forced to ground share just because they want a bigger ground? If they have the cash for it, let them grow. this assuming they're not asking for money from the Liverpool Council that is...
