Francesco Totti- Golden Shoe Winner 2007!

Post by Forza Italia!Forza Milan! on Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:18 pm

Francesco Totti has won the Golden Shoe award as Europe’s top League scorer with 26 Serie A goals.

The Roma captain had to wait until this evening to know if Ruud Van Nistelrooy could catch up to him in the final La Liga game.

However, he ended his campaign with 25 goals, having been substituted at half-time against Real Mallorca.

This is the second consecutive year that an Italian has won the prestigious trophy, as last season Luca Toni hit 31 Serie A goals for Fiorentina.

Curiously, before Toni no Italian had ever taken that title of Europe’s top scorer in League competition.

The contest is decided via a coefficient system based on the difficulty of scoring in each nation.

Afonso Alves came in third after scoring 34 goals for Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

In terms of the system, Totti earned 52 points, whereas van Nistelrooy's 25 goals were worth 50 points.

    Quality goal from Totti.

He ruins it with that celebration though.

Never mind it was still a class finish.

Great finish by Tottigol. on the side of the video is a link to Kaka's vs. Fenerbahce, now that is quality.

Ronaldo did at least turn up to a few of the Cl games though.

The Kaka-Ronaldo arguement was about who should win WPOTY, and was previous to any of the Milan-Utd ties - after the two games he had verses utd, I'm about 90% sure that Kaka has WPOTY wrapped up

So has Totti. Not against United but he did lay well against Lyon.

Ronaldo won the league for united, Totti won the Copa Italia for Roma, hence the league argument.

Totti apart from a final he lost 7 years ago, has choked in every big game he has played, outside of Italy.

I think the problem for Totti (and Zlatan) is that everytime he is on UK TV, he has been awful.

I think the likes of Del Piero have a bigger reputation in England, because he used to be amazing in the CL, as well as the Italian league.
